She and Matthew made this a movie that I will always hold dear! And it will forever be the moment that I began to love and admire the actress Miss Knightly!
British DramaFan Yeah he is very tall and has got gorgeous eyes, I remember seeing him years ago in trollope's the way well live now with Paloma Baaez playing his sister , David Suchet, Matt was was absolutely gorgeous in that as well. His portrayal of Mr Darcy was the quintessential one both he and Keira enacted it so beautifully, I am not a huge Jane Austen fan I read all of her novels as a young child , in my opinion, they all more or less followed the same theme, I realise she was poking fun at society manners, yet even that can become tiring, when each book appears repetitive , however, I am fond of Northanger Abbey My prefered author's are George Elliott, who was very much the female equivalent of Thomas Hardy and Emily and Charlotte Bronte, George was a much stronger writer than Jane. Emily Bronte's Wuthering heights was a masterpiece, however it wasn't a love story it is a gothic story of redemption mainly which has come around via blind obsession.
The scene where Matthew walks through the mist with his coat flying behind him... I replayed it endlessly... and I’m 72! And Donald Sutherland as the patriarch is UNMATCHABLE! Kiera is SUPERB as Lizzie! It’s my favorite version of my favorite book. I own the DVD!
Robin Holbrook - OH. MY. GOD. What is it with we older women? I’m 71 and that’s the exact scene I like the best in the movie. The moors, Lizzie wearing only her nightgown and thin robe, Matthew striding towards her with purpose and trepidation at the same time, the difficulty he has with saying he loves her. It’s all just perfect.
Nicole Poliskey Well, I’m 74 now, ladies. I STILL grow weak at that scene! Lol She is exquisite and he is a dream. I grew up with the Golden Books CINDERELLA. This version of PRIDE reminds me of that old book...which I read to my daughters and granddaughter and STILL have! It is, basically, the simplest of tales: loves conquers all. As a girl,I dreamt of it. As a woman I didn’t find find it. As an older adult I lament it. But I HAVE seen it come to fruition now and again. It never looks as beautiful as Keira and Matthew but it is the most glorious thing to behold!
yes she was! of course she is bautiful but she is not that picture perfect woman you see in magazines all the time. i really adore her for staying true to herself.
Definitely. The entire movie is a work of art. But my favorite scene is when Lizzie visits Pemberley, more precisely the scene with the sculptures. At the moment when Darcy's housekeeper is heard speaking well of him and all his generosity, it is when the director immerses us in the true world of the protagonist, in his essence... and what better than in his House. In that scene the most human side is appreciated far from all the prejudices that the other characters have made of him. It's a perfect and rich scene, where we discover a Lizzie completely in love with that man with a big heart ❤️ I hope someone else agrees with me!
@@analau25689 I was always confused by the long, oscillating shots of the sculptures in the house. I never understood why I had to focus on the cold white marble and forms in the stone (before Darcy's bust appeared). But I agree that it was a pivotal scene where Lizzy has the chance to contemplate all her past follies regarding Darcy (and maybe even entertains with some hope the possibilities of the future). Your interpretation is very interesting!
Wonderfully cast and acted, and directed. One of my fav movies. My DVD collection is predominantly Sci-fi, Action, Fantasy, then there is Pride and Prejudice. It portrays complex human emotions and social interactions so well.
I have never...NEVER been so interested in what someone has to say as much as I am when Keira speaks. Just effortlessly gorgeous and perfect with a voice I could listen to forever.
He is such a serious person, but when Elizabeth and her aunt and uncle are invited to Pemberly and they meet Georgiana and he smiles for the first time, it is like the sun breaking through, you see another side to him and he is lovable from then on. Fantastic film, beautifully cast and shot, great locations. I love every minute of it.
I remember when this movie came out in the theaters. I was a sophomore in college, and I saw it with a couple of my girlfriends. One of them absolutely hated it because it took too many liberties with the text. I understood the sentiment, but I never agreed with her. In many ways, I find this version superior to the miniseries if only because Keira Knightley made me like--nay, love!--Elizabeth Bennet, whom I usually find insufferable throughout the first half of the novel. Also, Matthew MacFadyen is just perfect casting. Darcy's supposed to be a handsome man in an aloof, aristocratic sort of way, not a heartthrob with model good looks; that's Wickham through and through. But Matthew has such a lovely smile that his unassuming features are transformed and he absolutely lights up. And he's warm and engaging and slightly awkward when he lightens up. He's just as removed and condescending in his mannerisms as Colin Firth's Darcy (whom I obviously also love but for entirely different reasons), but he's got more of a vulnerability in the way he masks his discomfort with people, which again is perfect since Elizabeth doesn't find him intimidating at all. Also, the soundtrack sounds as lovely and romantic now as it did 10 years ago. One of my all-time favorite movies.
+2ndRatePetronius GREAT review -- totally agree -- Matthew is the perfect Mr. Darcy to me. Love this movie way more than the series -- thanks for your comments!
I think both Rosamund and Keira are very beautiful. Both did such amazing jobs in the movie. Rosamund was the best Jane I've seen in any version of Pride and Prejudice. Keira was perfect as Elizabeth.
Yes Rosamund pike was perfect as Jane she is how I picture Jane to be Jane is the prettiest most beautiful Bennet sister and Kiera knightly was brilliant and perfect for Elizabeth Bennet cause she is described as the second prettiest most beautiful Bennet sister and when you see them as sister on-screen perfect
As exquisite as Matthew was playing Darcy, I felt Keira held her own opposite him. She was perfect in her role and just beautifyl. Together they were phenomenal.
Matthew is 10000000% irresistible. I am 100% certain that every woman who watched that movie was in love with him by no later than the end of the movie.
2:52 my favourite scene in the book (because Elizabeth totally kicked Darcy's haughty pride to the gutter) and in the movie because Matthew looked irresistible :-)
Keira and Matthew really brought to life the characters. I saw Collín Firth in the role and (although he is a great actor) Matthew was just made to be Mr. Darcy. I can't picture anyone else.
Love the way she speak's , so adorable! "'oh no, she's just fine' i didn't know how to take that" "matthew, he's a big bloke so vulnerable, so manly, so irrisistable, so amazing"
I used to think that I was in love with Keira Knightley. It took me years to realize that I was actually in love with 19 year old Keira Knightley playing Elizabeth Bennet! She did such a brilliant acting job and everything else (acting, directing, writing, editing, locations, costumes, sets, etc.) were somewhere between top notch and perfect. What a fabulous movie!
Keira was the perfect Elizabeth Bennett! Her Pride & Prejudice is seriously my favorite movie. And Matthew MacFadyen is the perfect Mr. Darcy too. I love the kissing ending...it doesn't take away from the integrity of the movie, in my opinion. It's still chaste yet at the same time extremely romantic. :)
I totally love everything about her! Her beautiful appearance, her natural behaviour, her way of talking... She's a brilliant actress and a wondeful person! Go for it Keira! Greetings from Germany!!
Pride & prejudice portrays a sort of romance the likes of which we shall never see again. A virtually-infatuated, technologically-infested world is utterly void of such romantically sublime dimensions. One of the most romantic movies of all time, and without being over the top.
And yet..... for long distance international relationships, until things settle, the internet is a blessing for keeping in touch face to face with each other! Thirty years ago we could only write each other, or briefly talk to each other over expensive international phone calls .
I really like this interview. Some interviews don’t age well in how they interview young actresses, but this one was great ❤👍 Keira was absolutely amazing in this role. That scene between her Matthew is 🔥 I still get chills watching it. One of my favorite films of all time!
keira was awesome as lizzy...but mr. mathew' s charm as mr. darcy is undefined...silky yet manly voice...highly expressive eyes like gems...that revealed both love n pain r simply outstanding that can melt ur heart...in fact t most desirable man for all women is mr. darcy n we see only mr. matthew as him..no one else cud ever fit in t rolef mr. darcy i think....i just love him...really💖💖💖💖💖💖
I’m shocked. Was already shocked that Tom and Shiv are from the UK. But Tom in Pride and Prejudice?? He’s a big bloke??? And seemingly he was the man in many ladies’ dreams after this role. Just crazy.
This movie is pure perfection, they are Elizabeth and Darcy for me, no one else did it like them. I can watch it any time anywhere, it will never stop to amaze me!
I was hanging out at my cousin's when I saw a DVD of P&P. The confrontation scene in the rain was SO INTENSE for me because while that scene was playing, it was also raining outside. It's so amazing how the whole movie was done. The scenery was absolutely enthralling, it was much of a character as the rest of the cast. I was so in love with this that I made a habit of watching it once a month for 2 years and I notice minute details in the scenes and it makes me fall in love with this era even more.
Only God knows how much I love this actress. Of course one may say it's just on the surface and we don't know each other but golly she is by far the most beautiful actress alive in my opinion. I obviously wanted her to win the Oscars for her portrayal of Elizabeth. I thought she was robbed.
Jupiter I agree. I think she is absolutely stunningly beautiful. Breathtaking really. I've never seen anyone as beautiful in my opinion. I also adore her personality. 😍 I also think she was robbed too! She is so talented.
First time I've seen this movie and saw Matthew i thought to myself he's not even that good looking what was all the fuss about. Then he's grown on me, and oh god those beautiful eyes. Indeed, he's irresistible.
That´s the best P&P Movie!! I love the book and I really, really like what they did with it, even that it´s totally different some times. Matthew Macfadyen wasn´t acting I think He IS Mr. Darcy ;) It just fits so well with those two you can realls feel the magic!! And Matthew is awesome!
We'll Elizabeth Bennet is attractive intelligent playful lively and witty has sharp tongue I know Elizabeth not as beautiful as Jane but Elizabeth still pretty
She's a very attractive woman with make up, but without make up she's utterly gorgeous!! Not fair at all.. Throughout the movie, there's not one scene where she looks anything less than beautiful..
This movie, the 2005 adaptation, is the best movie ever. Every actor is brilliant. Spot on. I have watched it a million times and I love it! Most ardently. Lol
I liked more that they didn't kiss, but instead closed their eyes and put their foreheads against each other. Such a simple, but deep gesture. Whoever has seen the movie would know that that was such a beautiful scene, kissing would have cheapened the moment somehow.
Matthew Macfadyen has the most beautiful eyes. They're so expressive and so vulnerable. Was anyone else thinking "kiss her! kiss her!" in that scene?
Yes!! And kiss me too!!
Yes
You absolutely stole my words!
😅😅😅
ikrrrr, and yesss but it didn't happen (oh i meant at the end but that scene also). I'm just happy they ended up together
I can't see anyone else playing Elizabeth. Keira really brought Elizabeth's sharp tongue to life.
Elizabeth Swan or Elizabeth Bennet lol
Could not agree more! She was wonderful!
she is very close to my imagination about how Lizzy look like when I read the book. not 100% but close n I love it.
just she’s sooo pretty. too pretty, elizabeth was meant to be plain
it was amazing tho
Inhle Cele Mary was supposed to be plain, not Elizabeth even if she wasn’t as beautiful as Jane.
When Mr. Darcy keeps saying Mrs Darcy makes my heart melt omg
Exactly I love the whole movie but I would watch it just for the ending
Annie Kelly
me too. i watched it ten minutes ago and i watched that last bit twice because it was so beautiful
krystal Campos I looooove that part.
I only just realised they added an extra little ending for the American version
Same! I just died
I wonder if Matthew knows how many women fell in love with him after this movie.
Im guessing he was married or in a serious relationship as Keira went for the promiscuous officer IRL.
@@jackmiddleton2080 he's married to Keely Hawes
Jack Middleton 😂😂😂
@chupenla meando he's referring to Rupert Friend, the actor who played the promiscuous officer in the movie, lol
Meanwhile I basically fell in love with her
She and Matthew made this a movie that I will always hold dear! And it will forever be the moment that I began to love and admire the actress Miss Knightly!
Me too!
Agree...
Me too..from that film i've become kiera knightly fan...i literally watched all her movies...😊

BRILLIANT ACTOR PERFECT FOR MR. DARCY
Amen!! Absolutely beautiful!!
Matthew Mcfayden is gorgeous! Love his eyes 😍
Yeeeeesss!!!
I really like Keira, she is so charming and sweet. Plus she is a great Elizabeth Bennet!
trha2222 true and honestly to me Pirates wouldn’t have been as good without her and Orlando Bloom
that scene where they almost kiss... OMG
Aaiza Asghar hi
I was begging for a kiss but they didn't pity
And actually there is the alternate USA ending there they kiss!
I know!!! Kiss her already!
@trha2222 yep I saw it too! But actually I prefer the original one because it leaves the ending hidden but we still know it and it remains pure😊

2019 and I still watch this movie almost everyday🤧
Thank you for uploading it!
This movie, the 2005 adaptation, is the best movie ever. Every actor is brilliant. Spot on. I have watched it a million times and I love it! Most ardently. Lol
El perfecto darcy y la la perfecta lizy. Que hermosos ojos de este actor con ellos expresaba gran parte del. Personaje.y su voz muy bonita
Her accent is just adorable
Keira is adorable! she seems very passionated by what she's doing!
Matthew Macfadyen é perfeito maravilhoso único. ❤ Love Matthew Macfadyen
I liked more that they didn't kiss, but instead closed their eyes and put their foreheads against each other. Such a simple, but deep gesture. Whoever has seen the movie would know that that was such a beautiful scene, kissing would have cheapened the moment somehow.
She was great playing Elizabeth! Perfect even!
The actor's micro expression is so amazing
One of my all time favourite movies...and Matthew is irresistible...totally.
