Exactly my thoughts! Both of them works like a charm on (rack)toms, but e604 doesn't shine on snare. V7X seems to be more allrounder. I just bought few of them.

i like the tone, but the bleed tone sucks imho, i was thinking about d40, but now i'm pretty sure it's gonna destroy whole mixing process with this nasty bleed :(

SM57 wins here in my opinion. Lows and highs are so controlled.

Sm57 typically has that nice clarity and attack. Great mic. In a song mix, it probably just depends. Maybe a Sennheiser microphone may work better

I record drums with AKG D40's in my studio for the last 4-5 years, they are great tom microphones, but the hihat bleed sounds very ugly. I really NEED to gate them. That's the only thing what i hate.
