This song is one of those rare songs that isn't just painting a mental picture. It makes an strong image almost like a photograph
Yes TRUTH!!
💯 Such amazing story telling in this song. So vivid that you see all of this in your mind. I had never seen the video either. But it’s spot on with what was in my head.
I mean that strong image is a music video.
Lol love you.
It wasn't about suicide. It's showing a person drowning from their problems and decisions. A friend of mine worked on that video.
Appreciate you listening to the uncensored version. On the radio they bleep out the word "green" for crying out loud
And every other word for cryin our loud. What is this, Walmart? So happy he reacted to this one.
Great song that brought awareness to the hardships of life. Don't judge someone till you've walked in their shoes. Peace & Love!
Phil Collins did this same concept with "Another Day in Paradise" but it was far more heavy handed with how it painted the picture of how you should react to these cases. Everlast took a much more individual approach and allowed the audience to come to their own conclusion about the nature of the human condition and that we are all in the same situation one way or the other. I like Everlasts approach much better.
God forbid you have to:
walk a mile in his shoes.
have to choose.
to have to lose.
JAY, it really touched my heart to see how much you got this song. You nailed it. You're an amazing person. Thanks for sharing yourself with all of us. ✌
Beautifully said! Each reaction like this just makes us love Jovaughn even more. ❤
Everlast's other hit "Ends", won't disappoint!!
I miss this time period.
Same 😔
Same
Definitely
Fuck it was great, yep miss it like hell
Me too
This has always been one of my favourite songs. He wasn’t afraid to sing about real life issues.
This was about 6 years after Jump Around... Such a different vibe
This is considered as blues. After he recovered from his life threatening heart attack he found religion & changed his life around. After he became sober I think he realized that he also had been judged & saw things from a different perspective. It’s hard to imagine that is the same person singing two totally different types of songs. ❣️Everlast was his stage name, his real name is Erik Francis Schrody .
According to Wiki, he rejects all organized religion.
“In 1996, he converted from Catholicism to Islam;[20] however, in a 2011 interview he stated "even though I would consider myself still to be Muslim, I don't really. I really kinda reject all organized religion."[21]”
@@irishgrl Hi, thanks for the info 😊 I knew that he had converted to Islam but I didn’t know that he denounced all religion later. That’s interesting 🤔
It's called empathy. What the world needs right now.
I think about this song a lot when I work with people at the mental health and addiction hospital where I'm a chaplain. So many people come in with an already bad situation, and everyone around them making it 10x worse by piling on verbal abuse because they can't just 'quit using' or 'be happier'. I would love it if we could somehow work ourselves out of job because people learned how to help each other when they fall instead of kicking them when they're down.
True Poetry laid down with heart and empathy that speaks directly to your soul
Another great track on the same album is called "The Ends". Similar theme. The album is "Whitey Ford Sings the Blues".
This is no genre. It just is. It has elements of Blues, Rap, Rock and more.
💥BOOM💥
Erick 'Everlast' Schrody (AKA Whitey Ford) has been part of a number of bands over the years: His first being Rhyme Syndicate (1990), the second being House of Pain (1992-1996), the third being his solo career (2000-2018), the fourth being La Coka Nostra (2009-2016) and finally being WARPORN Industries (2015-Current). Here's some of the best songs from each band.
HOUSE OF PAIN: Jump Around (1992)
EVERLAST: The Culling (2018)
LA COKA NOSTRA: That's Coke (2009)
WARPORN INDUSTRIES: Dazed (2017)
Two other songs that this one makes me think of is; One Headlight by The Wallflowers and Youth Of A Nation by P.O.D.
Youth Of A Nation really does go with the "real shit" vibe of this song, even if they sound nothing alike.
The only thing I remember about "One Headlight" is the chorus... so no further comment from me lol.
"Put Your Light on" with Santana and "I can't Move"
When he was in House of Pain he was a heavy drinker..probably part of why he looks so different in each video. Right around the time of this song he had a massive heart attack and converted to Islam. He cleaned himself up and came out with this album.
Thanks for this info!!
Life altering for him...
Wow..been a fan of his for a while and I know he had issues with substance abuse but didn't know he had converted to Islam.
Sad thing he changed one addiction for another - "religion is the opium of the people."
Wiki says this
“In 1996, he converted from Catholicism to Islam;[20] however, in a 2011 interview he stated "even though I would consider myself still to be Muslim, I don't really. I really kinda reject all organized religion."[21]”
@@hyperfex Yeah, Marx really knew something about creating a cult of destruction and tragedy.
Everlast has deep songs; I love his collaboration Carlos Santana on Supernatural
That song was such a worldwide hit - rightfully so! I remember when my brother and I were always happy when it came on MTV 👍 It still is one of those songs that I love so much that I would definitely take it on a lonely island with me... :)
Thanks for listening to this gem!
Several years ago I was addicted to pain killers. As I was getting my life back together I would listen to this song ALOT. Music speaks sometimes when regular words just can't explain it. This is such a descriptive and "true" song.
You need to check out the song "Put Your Lights On" it's Santana featuring Everlast on vocals.
I really like the song " Put your Lights on" by Everlast Ft Carlos Santana. Also "I get By" is a great song w substance by Everlast as well
Some astonishing song writing and lyrics in this song. The bridge of this song is just WOW... poetic.
“I’ve seen a rich man beg.
I’ve seen a good man sin.
I’ve seen a tough man cry.”
It’s like hearing poetry.
Nice choice! It does make one think. Everlast did a song with Santana called Put Your Lights On, it's worth a listen.
Everlast started off as a solo rap artist (part of Ice Ts Rhyme Syndicate) in very late 1980s, releasing his debut album in 1990. He then went on to form House of Pain a year later and enjoyed plenty of commercial and critical success before embarking on a more rock and blues focussed solo sound by the late 90s - of which this song is most representative. He returned to his hardcore hip hop roots with the rap supergroup La Coka Nostra in 2006 and is still releasing music as a solo artist, with his most recent album dropping last year.
I got this CD for a friend of mine for Christmas. He opened the gift and was real confused. Whitey Ford Sings the Blues. He asked "Are you sure this is what you picked out for me?" I later got the live version of this song on a CD Single called Today Watch Me Shine. It also has Jump Around Live and Blues For Christmas. Some wild stuff!
Love the line "You know where it ends. Yo, it usually depends on where you start." Like Walt Whitman once said: "Be curious, not judgemental."
Put Your Lights On - Everlast & Santana. They won a grammy for that track.
Everlast's Eat at Whitey's is an underrated gem with great tracks, especially "I Can't Move."
Babylon feeling and Love for Real are my Favorites great album overall
@@derekv6106 😊👍
I Cant move is my favorite from that álbum since the first time I heard it
I absolutely LOVE every song on eat at whiteys, but Babylon feeling is my favorite, I think everlast and Santana should do an entire album together. What it’s like was the song that got me listening to everlast but eat at whiteys was the album that made me love his music.
Oh wow it has been awhile since I heard this
I would call it a hybrid. Folk, blues, rock, r&b hip hop all in one. It happened during the alternative era, so.
This is GREAT!!! Stick with this time period for a minute!
Everlast is the stage name of Erik Schrody who used to be a rapper in the group House of Pain. This song is after HoP.
Lyrically and musically, it is the blues. His mix of acoustic guitar, hip hop beats, and lyrics are amazing! I love and have seen and partied with HOP and Everlast back in the day. Absolutely respectable and honest fella 100%🤘❤️🇨🇦
Excellent song, oh but please do Put Your Light On w/Everlast and Santana. Will rock your world.
ooh ♥ that song too!
Yes. And Black Jesus.
And we know J loves Santana!
What a great song and the meaning behind it was FACTS. Dont judge people. Great reaction as always. I enjoy your channel bro 😎✌
I like when song are about life and truth
From Jump Around to What It's Like... can't go wrong either way
Sending love from Oregon 🌲🌊❤
Edit: Jump around/House of Pain was before his solo career
He was solo before House of Pain. He put out work with Rhyme Syndicate with Ice T back in the late 80s.
@@fmfdocbotl4358 thank you 😊 always wanting to expand my knowledge
@@bethanythatsme i ran into him back then in LA. I ran into a lot of rappers before they got famous.
I guess when people go through a lot in life it makes you wiser. 👍. Luv u jay💞
Wow I was 21yo when this song came out! After 20+ years this song still holds up and sends a great message at the same time!
Such a great song! I saw him live on this tour he was so sick with a high fever and still came out to perform, during this song some guy threw a beer at him and he got so pissed he started yelling about how sick he was but wanted to make sure we got a show. We all turned to the guy and started booing and screaming kick him out. I don't understand how people can be so rude. He performed his set which included "Jump Around".
Sometimes life can suffocate and drown even the strongest of people. One act of kindness can turn the course of a strangers life. Tolerance and Manners go a long way.
Some of us have lived all these scenarios. This is still a great song. And I love the video. Especially at the end with the family.
I don't think I've heard this one before, but I had Neurosurgery so maybe the parts they cut out had this memory XD Great lyrics in this song. Thank you for letting me hear this song too and always take care of yourself, Mate
👍 Everlast/ Santana next. You won't regret it.
Jay, check him out with Santana. Its fire!! 🔥
I saw all of these things growing up in Cincinnati. This song always makes me cry.
"Judge not lest ye be judged yourself.."
-Holier than Thou; a Metallica song that I would suggest
That's a good song you suggest I pretty much like all Metallica
How does Metallica get credit for an altered line from the bible😂
Everlast has his own UA-cam channel, and he does acoustic versions of a lot of his songs. When I see him now, he makes me feel old just looking at him, but he's still sing'n and bust'n out rhymes.
YOU MUST watch Everlast doing a cover of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues”. It is amazing !
Everlast - Black Jesus
Everlast - Black Coffee
This song was always played on the Alternative Rock station 99X here in Atlanta back in the 90s. ✌🏼Such a deep song too!
The water they're in is a metaphor for how you feel like you're drowning in life. Sometimes you feel like you're going down for the third time.
He also did the theme song for the TV series "Saving Grace", great song for a great series.
My Son turned me on to this song/group I'm thankful 👏👏
Everlast - "Ends"
It's off the same album, Whitey Ford Sings the Blues, second single and video that was released. Check that one out next.
great song Whitey Ford sings really good he was in everlast! he also sang with Carlos Satana PUT YOUR LIGHTS ON... great song!!!
People assume this and assume that! When they don't have a clue what others are dealing with. And many couldn't handle what those people are going through. Love this song! My Brother. 👍👍👍💯💯💯💯
I have been tryin for so long to get someone to react to this..to no avail...so thank you so much! This song is all about judgement..”People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones”...the family behind the glass walls at the end of the video. Hard truth for some..just life for others😶
Such a great song. It makes you care about the folks he’s talking about. Fantastic story telling
Everlast started with the Rhyme Syndicate (Ice-T's group in the 80s).
Then he branched off for a solo album
Then he established the House of Pain (Jump Around and a ton of other great hits)!!
Then they broke up and he went solo (He made a few blues/rap albums starting with THIS ONE).
Then they got back together and created a larger group (La Coka Nostra).
He has continued to put out solo albums as well.
But THIS was after "Jump Around"...(fairly obvious when you go back and look at the videos). Also, "BLACK JESUS" is an underrated track by Everlast.
Something I learned way too late was that Everlast was in House of Pain.
His solo work is after House of Pain. I think he started releasing solo stuff around 1990. I'm so glad I was old enough in the 90s to enjoy so much variety. Blink-182, Greenday, Sublime, Nirvana, House of Pain, Dr. Dre, Eminem, The Offspring, Alanis Morisette, and so many others. I have my brother (5 years older) to thank for broadening my musical horizons at such a young age.
Dajum, memories!!!!
Thank you for checking this out.
I remember this album, this song, basically shaking the world. A genre that came out of nowhere. I remember being a freshman I think outside in the cold lifting weights trying to put on some weight, and this song came on...was like "woahhh".
This song is powerful.
I love Everlast's voice and the message in this song. Not real familiar with this artist, but absolutely LOVED his collaboration with Carlos Santana called "Put Your Lights On" from Santana's Supernatural album. You may want to check that one out, too.
This is a great song, I love it makes you think everytime and always makes me feel like crying even hearing it years later
Yes! I just commented on your jump around reaction and was one of the guys to recommend his solo stuff, love from Dublin Ireland 💚🇮🇪🍀
Everlast!!!!! LOVE HIM!!!!! Whoop! Check out Watch Me Shine by Everlast! AFTER House of Pain! White boy blues absolutely 🌹
Everlast is still making killer music and here are some to check out. Ends, Blinded by The Sun, 2 Pieces of Drama, I Get By, Friday 13th, Good Cocaine, Dont Complain, Smokin N Drinkin, Slow Your Roll & Dream State. The Slow Your Roll video is cool and the Dream State video reminds me of the movie 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas'.
You know where it ends is usually where it starts. Great lyric. This is a song about empathy.
The artist started this album to be a combination of blues and rap music. He went through a lot and made it what it is. Its rap music with a blues influence.
This one hits hard family.. it didn't get to love it deserves on your channel that's for sure.
The song "Ends" off of the same album is just as amazing.
The song he did with Santana leave the lights on is an amazing song great guitar solos great song All Around highly recommend it
Love love this song!!!
Yeah was a very strong message when he released this song. So many people take for granted all the easy things they enjoy just like that.
Wow. this was new to me and it's so good. Thank you for this!
Another good one off this album is 'ends'
I'd forgotten all about this band .When I saw the name of the band I remembered but couldn't think of a song until it started .great song . do some more to jog my memory .
there is another track from them called "Put your Lights On" that is also good feat Santana. Also, check out 911- I will always love you which is a cover version of an old band song. forgot the name of the band. Its really good.
He did another great song with Santana called "Put Your Lights On". Give that one a listen, you'll love it too.
This was the theme song for a TV series called Saving Grace.
I believe this is came out in 1998. Absolutely love this song. Another good one from the same album is "Ends"
Great song. Went to his concert once. He got into a fight with somebody from the audience, threw his guitar away and pretty much jumped in. At least it was exciting xD
One of my fave songs when I was in highschool....
Thank you for doing this truth from the bottom of my heart. Having light skin in a world that thinks light skin is all evil and privileged and showing something real means more than you will ever know. Thank you sooooooo much❤ We are people in this system too.
One of my favs from Everlast
Please react to Linda Ronstadt ,Heatwave, in Atlanta 1977 ,concert Live .....also Tumblingdice.....she really rocks, ..
Her first hit was with the Stone Ponies , Different Drum. also live
Absolutely beautiful reaction!
I remember when Phil Hartman was murdered in '98 and they played this song during the year end celebrity deaths on Mtv when his photo came up... Sad times, and a great song.
This is a powerful very well written song.
"Jump Around" 1989
"What It's Like" 1998
Many of us forget or take for granted just how lucky we are compared to others who are not as fortunate through no fault of their own. 🙁
Spot on! This is one great track! it gets a regular listen in my world.
Almost dying tends to change people... and it definitely changed him. For the better in my opinion. Great song... check out "Ends" by Everlast too
Yes!!! I have been waiting for you to do Everlast and especially this song. You should do Bubba Sparx “Deliverance” or Bone Thugs in Harmony “Crossroads”
One of the best songs....tellin' it like it is.
