      for me it was the fact blizzard was so woke you cant put king into a char name in a xpac called wrath of the litch king.... because king is too offensive lol but you can put queen in your name. lol that alone kinda ruined wrath classic for me :/ even tho i was super excited at first to play it also the fact that the community in classic wrath IS AND WAS nothing like the original community. its has shown me that the real reason wow is dead today is not wow its self but its shit community today in compairison to back then ..... but yea when you ruin immersion to be more *woke* and sensitive. It ruins the experience. that also does not help. idk i dont think wow has ever been really that good. What made the game sooooo damn fucking good was not the game but the community itself. somthing that just is not the same and probably neverrrrr will be :/ i mean wow its self was a culture at one point in time :/

      Anyone who thinks that is just wrong. Wotlk was already struggling before Naxx ended. Pretty much all the fresh servers that were completely filled and consistently had multiple hour queues were completely empty before Ulduar even released. The token was the result of wotlk losing players, not the cause.
      Nobody wants to admit that wotlk, and classic in general, just isn't the game that people remember it to be. People want new things, and wotlk wasn't new. There's a good reason that HC is doing so well, and it's because it makes the game feel completely different.

      For whatever reason, when recording this little rant last night (you can probably tell none of this was scripted), I never even thought about the Token, the bots, etc. 100% agree. Now that I think about it, the moment that they announced the Token for WotLK I stopped playing entirely. That, combined with the lack of attention the bots were getting as they overran servers; that didn't help either. A shame though! Maybe we'll get another shot at a proper WotLK experience some time in the future. Classic Classic WotLK when?

    As an old fart who considers OG wrath as the pinnacle of fun in my WoW lifetime here are my main reasons for not touching classic wrath.
    1. Time commitment - when I played wrath I was a teenager and had near unlimited free time with not many real responsibilities. Classic, even classic wrath, requires a lot of time investment to do anything meaningful or fun and that’s time I simply don’t have currently.
    2. Modern Gaming culture - sure we had GS back in the day, but that was a drop in the ocean compared to how hyper analyzed and meta driven current gaming is. That level of hyper utilization makes things less fun imo. Also as a secondary to that gaming culture is a lot less fun and free than it used to be. Everyone is silent, shitty, or a troll now. Everyone is trying to get one over on everyone else and isn’t interested in genuinely helping a part of the virtual world they inhabit be better.
    3. Blizzard - I lost interest in classic the second they added level boosts. They’ve commodified everything and it just sucks the fun out of the game. It promotes bots which ruin the market which in turn hyper inflates gold costs which leads to my point 1 and 2. I don’t have the time to dedicate to farming the gold id need and other players do or will buy bot gold or a token to gain advantage leaving me with the options of not being able to afford shit or spending real life money just to try and maybe enjoy a game I already pay for. Isn’t a solid trade imo.

    • @Kshaadoo
      @Kshaadoo Рік тому +3

      Yeah, I agree man. I personally do have time to raid, but I just dont really have any desire to. It was fun back in the day, like what loot the bosses gonna drop, what mechanics they gonna have, there was so much interest and wonder in world. Now every single thing is made into a guide, database etc. Every1 wants to clear raid as fast as possible with most FOM spec and class. Even back in TBC I didnt raid not only because I didnt have time, but because I wanted to play a rogue and nobody needed rogues in raids. Also boosts is a major downside of that, GDKP raids, where people literally buy gold to buy items so made game p2w. Even the token that was added. But I play this game out of nostalgia from time to time and I wish we had Wrath Era servers so you can play them for a long time. I enjoy leveling alts, doing fishing dailies and hunting mounts etc. It just became less social for me and more like a single player game.

    • @aldofer8832
      @aldofer8832 Рік тому +2

      2 and 3 are the most relevant, 1 i don't really agree since it only applies to raid and i can do pvp no problem. 2. is especially the deal breaker since everyone thinks they are super hardcore and only want meta player when every class and spec can clear most content easily, even in wrath.
      Also classic hardcore is a better game than wrath since it solve all point due to it's focus on leveling and easy raids (expect nax), yes even point 1 since there is no rush to 60 and you will probably die anyway so it's just a focus on taking your time and have an adventure.

    • @theperfectbeing
      @theperfectbeing Рік тому

      No farming and megaservers with only 1 faction completely destroy the spirit of the game. Then they added the wow token which devalues every single form of farming that helps keep servers feeling alive.
      If all you're left with is raid logging or searching for the most convenient GDKP, then most people simply stop caring about the game. The feeling of community dies when there's no other reason to log onto the game.

      Totally agree. I was so excited to play classic especially tbc when it first came out but what killed it for me is that the people have changed from when I first played.
      Back then I met so many cool people and had a lot of great experiences because of the people I met while leveling. Now nobody wants to talk anymore, they just want to be boosted to raid logging content. The culture is just different now and that’s what killed my drive to play.

    1) I will play "Classic+" if they do it right. But if they are even thinking of adding level boost and especially wow token, HARD pass! Maybe that's why they charge 50 bucks, hence no token?
    2) For the love of God if they add High Elves (BEs) please update the bow animation to newer one. Was a big welcomed change later on. Old animation is aweful. A simple toggle would work.
    3) Scarlet Monastery raid. Considering how popular SM dungeons have always been. Fill the empty and unfinished areas with content. Many places on the world map to add more.
    4) If they will add housing which was a plan for Vanilla back in the days, don't make it like in WoD. Last thing we need is "empty" servers where people sit in their houses and "farm/craft" all day.

      Yup same complaints from back in the day. And the problem is that Wrath raids become too hard for Vanilla players, so they have nothing to do in Wrath. People don't understand that players started leaving WoW in 3.2 way before Cata, it's just that more new players were coming, but you can visibly see the plateau in sub numbers if you don't believe me, I was there, my guildies were leaving, and then the guild went away by Cata.
      Though I think 10 man normal is an excellent base difficulty and blizzard should have communicated that it is the base difficulty and everything above it is extra and those extra difficulties shouldn't give higher ilvl, they should give you an extra gem socket here and there, better looking gear and better looking or exlcusive mounts, achievements and such. This solves the power creep and makes it so that most players know that 10 man normal is what they are supposed to play.

      @@markomancikas Cata is a better WotLK in every single way, except it doesn't have a raid tier in 4.1 and LFR is NOT a proper replacement for WotLK's 10 Man Normal raid difficulty.
      Cata brought the dungeon and raid depth and complexity to a new level, had the best PVP until SL or even DF, best class design until SL and DF, 1-60 revamp was great(I thought I'd hate it back in the day, but after playing it I loved it), had great expansion leveling zones, it had the Molten Front, all the systems from Wrath were polished and improved - tabard reputation was nicer to do and the rewards were better and justice/valor is better than badges and so on. It added void storage and reforging.
      Cata also had full dungeon tiers, we had a dungeon tier for every raid tier, which is awesome and much better than just increasing the ilvl of the existing dungeons.

    Wotlk has always been the most over-rated wow expansion. Add to the fact that everything is *known* about the expansion, you can't really relive the nostalgia.

  • @Fishbro
    @Fishbro Рік тому +7

    Why WOTLK blows?
    1). Took too long to release all the content, instead of making all the content available at start and making it all relevant at the start (upscaling naxx gear to 245 ilvl, ulduar to 258 along with TOC/TOGC at 245/258) and making all content relevant for gearing and raiding. Nope, content drought. Over a year since release and still no ICC, fos/pos/hor, or ruby sanctum.
    2). Nobody gives a fuck about gearing before icc/rs release, as shown on private servers. Fos/pos/hor give 232 ilvl gear, and boe's + fos/pos/hor make you easily able to clear icc10/toc25 with any level of idiots, let alone TOGC/Buff ulduar25/etc. ICC25 is already being farmed on heroic.
    3). No RDF for a year, forcing us to use their dumbass group finder.
    4). Extra "Classic" bullshit, instead of a vanilla wrath feel. Easier to earn items: Valanyr "oh look 10 shards a raid yay", shadowmourne "oh look i got shadowmourne in 5 weeks :D", "oh look I did ulduar 25 so now I have 258 items and my valanyr is 258 ilvl, whilst Heroic LK drops 284, making my bis healing weapon that was giga-easy to earn even more overpowered, and not even close to compareable to an LOD weapon".
    5). Due to "Classic" and their changes, they diminished people's interests in wotlk. Icecrown on warmane went from 3 servers at 12,000 people, down to not even one over 8000 during innitial wrath release, back up to 12,000 + many others. People want vanilla wrath. Private servers can, have, and will continue to deliver vanilla WOTLK instead of "Classic" which is just a pale immitation of what wrath of the lich king actually was.
    Anyways what the hell is the point of doing ICC25 heroic when all 5 of your healers and even your caster dps have an overpowered and buffed 258 item level valanyr? Most guilds/raids only had 1 when progressing ICC25 and it was beyond OP, now it's even stronger and you have all your healers using it AND your dps using it. It's so fucking hard to die in any raid at all at this point, when healers are so strong. Stand in the fire? Oh no what ever shall I do except help my healers score even more heals due to infinite overhealing and shielding.
    Vanilla wrath with 30% buff in icc is harder > Classic wrath without 30% buff.

    It really is quite simple. I played a lot of Classic WoW. I loved every bit of it. I even found a community and a guild that didn't scoff at me when I showed up with no world buffs, or when I showed no interest in raid logging.
    I was looking forward to playing TBC, but didn't - because level boosts was introduced and I could see the writing on the wall. So when they finally dropped the WoW token on WotLK classic, I wasn't the least surprised. You could see it from a mile away. The magic is gone. Blizzard betrayed the Classic format.

      The ONLY reason alting became so heavily popular in the vast majority of players is because of WB meta and the massive rise of GDKP runs.
      like FFS majority of people bought gold or did GDKPS then paid to get mage boosted in dungeons, they didnt even level legit.

    Launch was really anti-climatic. The gap between try-hards and casuals is just too massive, and reminded me why I quit retail. No one wants to farm unnecessary pre-bis for easy raids just because no one wants to learn mechanics, and the try-hards are too busy making millions of gold to care about anything else.
    WoW has always needed one thing: any easy way for good players to play casually without forcing them into solo-play. The only satisfying content blizzard made for us was Mage Tower? The entire rest of the game is irrelevant for most of their potential player-base. No one wants to play an MMO for animal crossing gameplay, nor for super-tryhard second-job raid nights. Most people got into MMOs just to chill with other people in low-stress environments and kick ass.
    WotLK reminded me and so many other people how antiquated blizzard's MMO design really is, and the WoW token was the nail in the coffin.

Now afterwards it wasn't only that, it was also the sugarcoating of combat when leveling and the faceroll in dungeons and raids etc which led to the beginning of the end. But that's harder to remove or change because that is core gameplay. RDF can just be removed and they tried to see what would happen. So it didn't work, but I happy they acknowledged the fact that a lot of people liked Wotlk because of its setting, but the systems in that expansion already started to has its negative effects on the game itself. Issue is that gdkp's are too vast that it's impossible to raid because if you just started the game, the only way to get into a raid that will clear content is practically buy 200k gold to permission to join a raid. Also makes it harder for alts to raid as well. Guilds just can't get enough people because the raiding scene is over-saturated with gdkp groups (most of which are shit) and therefore ruins the end game. And don't even get me started on what the quality of a gdkp player is, it's usually astonishly low.

When you have to post that you are 4.9k GS to just run the Brewfest Coren dungeon fight, I am not sure what I missed that compels one to do so. Now that difficulty tiers are about to be introduced with Ice Crown, and there’s a WoW token, the sanctity of the game is destroyed. Particularly because of the latter (the difficulty levels for IC aren’t a big deal, although they’re annoying when it comes to get people on the same page). Now that people who are successful IRL automatically can get a legal leg up in-game by buying gold from Blizzard, the sense of fairness is broken. Once that’s gone, a lot of people leave. People hate the WoW token. No one wants it. We would prefer the damn bots over a WoW token. Wow tokens are a worse issue than farming bots.

I'm not referring to you specifically, but many people are trapped in this bubble of Classic Era, HC, and a dash of Wrath. Not knowing that the vast majority of WoW's player base are solely interested in Retail and nothing else.

    I loved vanilla and i played it a lot, i played TBC less and i quitted at wolkt. I did exactly the same course for classic. Wolkt is the start of "retail wow".

    The class kits, dual spec, barber and achievements. They are great. Even the emblem economy is pretty good. But as a solo player that doesn't want to schedule my leisure time to others, I have no more solo content after getting the alliance factions reputations maxed out... no solo content gives any emblems or orbs. So basically professions is all I can do.
    Compare that to dire maul E runs as a tankadin in Classic...

      And with RDF out now... sure I get to easily run dungeons but it's not the same. I'm not "living in a virtual world" anymore, I'm queueing up for matches in battlefield or gears of war... combine that with the fact that these people are in other servers, I'll never see them again. I can't even force a party with them of my own accord... thats not sharing game space. Thats not an mmo...

    I feel like they released both TBC Classic and Wrath Classic too fast. They could have drawn out TBC a bit more, I don't even think it was out for like a year and a half

    For me i got burned out because of Gdkp's existing and the average guilds required top 1% of player skill to be in their raid. Basically parsing culture. For the record i parsed mid 70's to low 80's on average for ulduar tier (with hard modes)

    I feel like there were various things that lead to less people playing Wrath after some time : (1.) Ulduar , (2.) The hardcore community developing in Vanilla Classic, (3.) Blizzard introducing the wow token to Wrath, (4.) The possibility of Blizzard making Classic Catalysm (which at that point its no longer classic...just a earlier version of Retail), and (5.) just people being burnt out from wow and looking at other options like FFXIV, Baldur's Gate 3, and other games.

    100% the Token, there was hype before that announcement and that ended it being "classic" and made it retail

    Im sad to say the servers feel dead. I tried to queue for battlegrounds the entire weekend on a med pop server and never got a single game. I was in queue continuously for 4 hrs and not a single game. Its sad, I didnt get to play until late and nothing is quite as depressing as logging in on weekend and seeing your faction capital nearly empty

    As an OG wow player i picked up BC when i was 10. I played all the way up to MOP and quit because of how the direction of the game was moving. Since leaving i grew up, moved on, enjoyed many other hobbies but wow always left a void inside me no other game,MMO, or other hobby could fill. WOW was a huge part of my life growong up if not MY life. I recently came back to wrath classic because of a co worker. Normally when i try to play nostalgic games they just dont have the same impact that i remebered them having. Getting back into WOW classic has been the best thing ive done in years as far as gaming goes. My only regret is i didnt do it sooner. Every aspect of being back in Azeroth has given me happiness, memories and pure joy. It may have problems, but its sure as hell scratched the itch that no other game including other MMOS just havent touched. I hope there are many others out there like me just enjoying the fact classic wow is a thing. It truly brings back some of the best memories i had growing up. I hope i can create new ones with this journey.

    IMO, wotlk has the iconic villain, the Lich king, but wotlk is just about as retail as it gets in the early days, there’s nothing really to do outside of raid logging and/or pvp

    Philosophically, I blame the Jailer. Or more so the ridiculous storyline that brought us the jailer and bastardized Arthas in the process.

  • @Integroabysal
    @Integroabysal Рік тому +1

    Most of the enjoyment for wrath was killed by shadowlands plot.And the fact that Arthas was turned in a blue ball of cum , and also bolvar that was hyped and foreshadowed as a mastermind of something in legion then BFA just became a training dummy for sylvanas lol. Its the same effect as the last season of Game of thrones had on me , back before the 8th season I used to rewatch GOT once a year or even twice , since the end of season 8 I didn't even try to watch the prequel cause it does not matter cause of how shitty it ended.
    P.S and also just IMHO TBC class gameplay was somehow more enjoyable than wrath , TBC gameplay was several heads higher than vanilla but not as complex as wrath witch for me made it more enjoyable , and most of the friends I play with agree that TBC was better and they kinda want to go back to tbc but with some class changes :D

    @NixxiomOnUA-cam, do you feel like Activision Blizzard is honestly doing a social experiment? I feel like thats what they are doing and are seeing to contrast numbers.

  • @ivankovachev8835

    Cata 4.0.6 is when WoW's sub count peaked in numbers, players started leaving during 3.2, but more people were coming that leaving so nobody on the side noticed. You can thank Trial of the Crusader for that and the fact that raids got too hard for many people, while also having nothing else but PVP and dungeons to do at max level and even the easier than TBC Heroic dungeons were hard for many people.
    I like Wrath Naxx, but I understand why people don't.

  • @Wheeljack678
    @Wheeljack678 Рік тому

    From a pure gameplay perspective, I prefer current (Dragonflight), but the nostalgia for Wrath is real. I didn't start leveling there until a few weeks back, but once I landed in Valgarde and the music from Howling Fjord kicked in, I was back in 2008. Levelling to 80 was nothing but one huge trip down memory-lane, but I enjoyed every second of it.
    Sure, I can level through WotLK-zone in current WoW as well, but it's just not the same. Zoning into Dalaran and seeing so many players running around really, really fills me with joy and warmth.

    I'd love to play wrath IF:
    - there was no wow token
    - there was no level boost
    - gdkp wasn't dominating the pug scene & promotes wow token
    - there weren't so many bots even in arena
    Why would i play a highly inferior version of the original Wrath riddled with problems, many caused by blizz themselves?
    I'd rather play Classic era which has way less issues and a way more friendly/inviting playerbase at any point in the game in my exp.
