They weren't really reacting to the pitch bend. That had been in since the start. They were reacting to the different ending starting on that amazing dissonant chord after the rising bend.
It seems like a lot of people in this comment section are confused as to what’s going on. The cameraman, as well as the people sitting in front of him, are confused on why the rest of the crowd is super hyped. At one point in the vid (around 0:27), you can see the person in front of the cameraman shrug in confusion. The kicker is that the people I’ve mentioned were incredibly disrespectful by not applauding after the performance. There’s been a handful of shows I’ve watched that I don’t like or understand, but I still applaud and give a standing ovation after a Corps’ performance because it’s the right thing to do.

Nah it definetly shouldn’t have won (not even close) and I can think of many shows that year alone that were better. But I’m always down to show love for a corps and this was definetly a really cool moment
@@scottnelson9I don’t think the beginning especially with the trumpet feature, nor the drum feature nor hymn of acxiom as a ballad was lackluster 😂blue devils were too focused on story making over music that’s why metamorph was so damn good(which By the way, should’ve scored higher than felliniesque). Either way I love both corps but I don’t think felliniesque should’ve won let alone scoring highest ever.

Isaac Trent lol no, the pitch bend was done with technology, they had recorded the brass line earlier in the season and used that as the pitch bend, that’s why you see the brass players take their horns off their face during the bend
theoretically if they DID to the pitch bend themselves, it would have been pretty hard to maintain the volume. some refer to it as half-valving the horns in order to easier manipulate the notes, either up or down. but the volume drops off a ton if a valve is not fully pressed
This just goes to show practicing is nothing. Crowds go wild and start foaming at the mouth over any dumb old thing...which is good, it means musicians can practice less : )
Cobrun Sells How is this dumb? The recording they used to pitch shift is the corp playing. They pre recorded it, shifted it, then played OVER that pitch shift. It was new, innovative, and downright cool. My love for this show isn't because of this moment. The show was FANTASTIC and deserved all the recognition. The pitch bend was just a cherry on top of a delicious dessert.

The ending of the show was great, but a lot of it was lackluster, whereas the Blue devils show was strong from start to finish.
