COMMENT: Were you familiar with the story of Barbara Hutton - and what is your opinion of the epic rise and tragic fall of the story of this “old money” heiress?
Yes! I remember watching the made-for-tv movie in the 80s. Farrah Fawcett played her. It was very well done. The production was very rich. Loved it so much that I own the dvd series. Thanks! Another good one.
I watched the film about her life years ago. Poor little Rich Girl starring Farrah Fawcett. Definitely worth watching. All that money but could never be truly happy. Men used her for her money and her anorexia started when her first husband said she was putting on weight. When she died Cary Grant went to see her and she insisted on wearing her Pearl Necklace, she said “Cary must see me wearing my Pearls”. Such a sad life from being a lonely little girl upto the day she died😔😢
Cary Grant was the only man who never took a cent from her. All the others were gold diggers. I saw that TV movie too. Farah Fawcett was wonderful in the role. She was actually quite a good actress. I saw her in a dramatic movie called Extremities and she was fantastic.
Had Barbara's jewelry collection remained intact it could have easily competed with the Duchess of Windsor's. From her custom wedding tiara which was made by Cartier to the exquisite jade necklace not to mention her Pasha diamond ring. Sad that it was all gone by the time she passed. Barbara was exploited by everyone she met. Cary Grant was the rare exception.
As they say money doesn’t buy happiness. Imagine having all that wealth. You would wonder why men were courting you. Interestingly she was friends with Doris Duke, another very rich kid who inherited her money from her father at age 12. Doris was at one time the 3rd richest woman in the world after Queen Elizabeth and Queen Juliana of the Netherlands. Doris and Barbara had a falling out and became rivals in almost everything. Jewellery, Wealth, Art Collections, and husbands. After Doris Duke divorced her second husband Porfirio Rubirosa, Barbara married him, ostensively to anger Doris! So he got a bite at two rich cherries!
Ibwish i had a great aunt or grandparents that left property and lands where myself and family could step back in time anf live in a life with memory and gratefulness in history. ❤
I only vaguely knew of her story. Poor Lady!!!I've enjoyed using alias names at Starbucks and Chick-fil-A... been Kimberly Clark for many years. Perhaps it's time to become Barbara Hutton!! Enjoyed your video. ❤
