If you could know for a fact that nothing bad came out of it, then you might be right, but you don't know that. Dr. Funk gave examples of vaccines given out during "outbreaks" in the past as precedents, but those cases were all after most of the population had natural immunity and there was not billions of people ripe for immediate infection. Ever see a timeline that graphs severe cases of particular pathogenic diseases and notes when vaccines for them were introduced? Only after most populations had significant natural immunity. None of them have ever ended an active pandemic abruptly.
Natural immunity is what ended this pandemic. There was no decrease in C or all-cause fatality following rollout, in any age group. In fact, the C population fatality rate increased 49% globally in the year following initial rollout compared to the 6 months before the rollout (using the Lancet paper's Dec 8 time point). When did global rates finally start to decrease significantly? At the end of March 2022, after the first Omicron variant made it rounds. That is truly "real world data"; not the weak epidemiology data during the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" theme music. Relative risk ratios derived from conveniently sloppy raw data where you can get different data sources for numerators and denominators is not "real world data"; it may be "real world propaganda".
"There are one million people in our city, and we have given out 900,000 vaccine cards. 30% of those who die with Covid are not "fully vaccinated". Since only 10% are unvaccinated, and represent 30% of the deaths, then the unvaccinated have 3x the fatality risk." - What could be wrong with data like that? How do you know that the stats you're being fed aren't from raw data like that? That's why you have to look at hard outcomes, like cumulative C fatality over time, instead of relative risk stats, which are so easy to fudge.

The context here was whether or not mass immunization during this pandemic was risky in terms of viral evolution. None of the "precedent" immunizations that Dr. Funk referred to was with a virus that spread as well SARS-2, and had frequent mutation potential, and during the peak of world-wide infection. The historical immunizations were applied to pockets of the global population, not to the entire population. No one with natural immunity was even requested to take them. The potential for mutations developing and spreading depends very much on the absolute number of replicating copies of a virus; not the per-capita number in pockets.
This was quite unique, without precedent.

Second one for example, shows people 60+ vaccinated vs non-vaccinated, which yes the vaccines had great effects for this age group on the original strains. But had little to no difference vs younger populations and the variants that followed. And since the vaccine didn't (like they promised) prevented you from getting it, not understanding the long term effects of this new vaccine gave many young healthy hesitation on taking it. How is that controversial at all?

Younger people in general have less health issues and therefore feel less the need of taking the vaccine.

I have been constantly surprised that Weinstein, a former Professor (allegedly a biologist), doesn't read the literature. Instead preferring to cite anti-CV vaccine nutters without checking their claims. Or is it just a better grift? I bet Evergreen College are thinking, "Lucky we got rid of this guy."
Brett Weinstein is a fake expert, meaning that he has no expertise in the relevant scientific disciplines of epidemiology or virology. But this guy is an evolutionary biologist and should actually be capable of applying evolutionary principles to viruses, but he seems to get even this wrong as Dr. Dan Wilson clearly explains. It is hard not to conclude he is doing this for personal fame and fortune. In other words, he is nothing but a common grifter.

As someone who doesn’t have a medical background I know that certain claims like that are bullcrap. Thanks for your expertise as always.
As you don't have a medical background, then you do not have any basis for this statement other than comment sense. Science has shown that common sense has been wrong many times. Look to the "original" science research papers on any statement that can back up your statements.

Nothing hilarious at all. This WAS unprecedented. A virus with an R-naught of 3 or much more, which does not require contact. Almost every variant surges its way around the world quickly. No sterilizing immunity to infection except for the very same variant or extremely similar ones. All a perfect storm for a totally unprecedented number of virus copies active on earth at once, which greatly increases the rate of mutation. Mutation does not occur "per capita"; it occurs per the number of actively-replicating virus copies in the global system.
So, Dr. Funk's analogies are not applicable here, and his arguments are once again weak and only convincing to the choir. All of the previous virus' inoculations were introduced when only small pockets of the global population were still having outbreaks. In most cases, they were for viruses that did not mutate to escape sterilizing immunity, and before C, they were not given to people who were already infected.

Most people in the developed world, the part of the world that travels the most and has the most potential for global viral spread, is already immune to measles, either from infection, or from pharmaceutical immunization.
Immunity to measles is sterilizing, because measles does not successfully mutate to escape immunity to infection, like SARS-2 does. So, the two most important factors necessary to raise concerns about evolutionary pressure, lots of people actively infected PER GLOBE (not "per local capita" or "locally") in ABSOLUTE numbers, or even the ability to mutate, are not met by measles.
This rollout WAS quite unprecedented.

Hi dr Wilson. I think I am is understanding your graph at 11.15. You said urät shows that you are less likely to get infected if vaccinated but if your graph showing cases per 100k individuals considers that over 80% of the population is vaccinated, it should have to show 1/5 of the cases in the vaccinated.
If it doesn't, does that mean the risk is the same or greater still?

Thank you for using the word "lies" out loud and calling out Joe's favorite "experts" as fake. It seems like most commenters want to tiptoe around the issue and won't go any farther than language like "misguided", "not entirely correct", "possibly inaccurate". Joe takes the one person out of hundreds or thousands in their field that shout provably false ideas from the rooftops and props them up like their dissent is brave and worthy of equal time because to him it's heroic that they "don't fall in line" with "the agenda". I'm glad that COVID brought enough negative attention to Rogan to inspire debunkings like this one. But I still can't help but be annoyed that it took so long. Rogan was spreading pseudoscience long before COVID came along, and it didn't get nearly as much criticism.

That would be silly, consider how little other SARS viruses spread around the world.

I listened to Weinsteins podcast for quite a while. It was interesting to hear them riffing on various biological topics. But like his brother, he has made a career now from being controversial and 'anti establishment'. I still agree with some of his, and Rogan's opinions (mainly on social issues). On the science stuff, I dont think they care much whether what they say is actually well confirmed - superficial plausibility for the layman is enough to keep them riffing indefinitely. In their minds, they are the mavericks fighting the good fight, who will be proven right in the end.

Great video just like the others, but the only thing that concerns me is the data you showed for sudden cardiac deaths. One study was only up to 2016 and the other paper was from 2018. But you did claim that there is a normal rate of cardiac deaths or events on sports fields. If you wanted to lend a hand to conspiracy theorists they would be all over this. Can you or anyone else provide some up to date data on this? Thanks
