Hopefully this type of flop makes them course correct. At the end of the day... Hogwarts Legacy(single player) succeeded and Suicide Squad(GaaS) flopped. These exec's only know one language... money.
You are a fraud lying to viewers about trash unfinished games
All we asked for was a Superman game in the ArkhamVerse. How is it this difficult? The Superman simulator made by Unreal Engine 5 that went viral a few years ago proves it is possible
Damn you Rocksteady
This is all good news imo
Yong is a fraud who lied to his audience he held back all gameplay issues with cyberpunk so everyone could go buy it
Fraud fraud fraud you fake fraud
The fact that WB lost all that money and won't learn anything is the real failure
Same is happening to the subsidiary the movie business and it’s all happening because the movie business is over because there’s a few months ago that Warner Bros. discovery is floating with bankruptcy and there was one point they were going to merge with Paramount
welcome to modern capitalism, where idiotic shareholders put moron execs in charge.
“Let’s all laugh at an industry that never learns anything, tee hee hee.”
I heard this is Rocksteady idea not WB idea but WB should just vetoed the idea in first place tho
The thing about executives is that they're all gambling addicts. The only difference is that they'll never risk losing their house, just their employee's house.
They'll blame the loss on Rocksteady. At the end of this year Rocksteady will be closed. They'll buy a new studio, and commission them to make a live service game. Rinse and repeat the cycle of corporate shittiness.
CEO’s gotta get that sweet new yacht
Suicide Squad kill the rocksteady
I’m glad the founders and the smart ones at rocksteady peace out when they saw the writing on the wall I wish them well on their new studio hundred star
Yes pls close rocksteady. The original devs for arkham games has left. There will be no more good arkham games from these devs in the studio. Think about it......There's a team in the studio who somehow think Harley quinn, a mentally ill villain deserve to take batman spot as a hero.
@@jigglypuff5480 She's more an anti hero depending on the continuity but I get what you're saying.
They should have made another Batman game but nooooo. Idiot Executives think LIVE SERVICE is what everyone wants
Ngl if they copy-pasted another Arkham installment with a few extra bells and whistles, it would have done EXPONENTIALLY better than what they tried.
The bar is so low that all they have to do is churn out samey slop, and they can't even do that.
A batman beyond game in Arkhan style would be a sucess
Another batman game you say? Meta Quest 3 exclusive it is!
Live service is never what anyone wanted, it's what makes the most money
Another Batman game? Why not a Superman game?
They lost 200 million dollars and are still gonna invest in more live services. 😂
yeah I mean disney is making marvel's games single player after the avengers flop.
The sleeper agent gamers in China are going to carry those live service profits
They can afford to fail a lot, but once they hit the jackpot like fortnite/ apex, they'll have their cash cow for yrs. That's what they think. Whales are to be blamed
They are trying to replicate mihoyo's success with their Genshin and Honkai Star Rail (and ZZZ) WITHOUT putting in the effort and resources. The problem with corporations like WB is that they are a publicly traded company and they are legally contracted to make profit for their shareholders. Mihoyo on the other hand is a privately owned company, they are basically an indie game devs who happens to makes billions 😄
@@brad5426 the sleeper agents won't touch it unless it's a waifu gacha game, which we know they won't make.
WB’s response to this “let’s double down on live service”
And embrace the wokeness
Sink Cost Fallacy is a bitch
Probably kill Rocksteady for failing and making one but ,"yes , lets try again!" (said by morron in a suit, probably)
@@kevingame3198oh no look out!! the wokes are gonna come steal your balls!!!!!! 😱😱
For fucks sake kevin, it's not about the wokeness!
Why fear for Rocksteady's future? Most of the talent that made the Arkham games jumped ship years ago. This company is only Rocksteady in name now.
“Steam numbers don’t matter! It sold millions on console! MILLIONS!”
I was told this on Reddit, numerous times
bots? lol
It's like 2016 all over again when the Suicide Squad movie came out, people arguing weather this was good or bad and it failed due to many reasons one being it copying more successful games
Maybe some brainwashed People or bots
Just because it sells millions does not mean it sold enough to earn the millions they spent back. Plus if the player count is anything to go by, chances are it’s just the sub 200 players coping over the fact that their smugness and pedantic attitudes didn’t win out.
Ok. And spider-man 2 sold millions. And guess what. They also lost millions. The difference between the 2, is suicide squad has to pay money, to keep the game alive.
And Warner Bros will now think
*"lesson learned, dont make big budget superhero games"* like the smoothbrains they are.
Dont blame the methodology they pushed into the game, just blame the basic concept. It's always just consumer data, nothing wrong with them.
I've wondered what the chances are that they attribute Hogwart's success to the Harry Potter IP solely rather than it being single player. Wouldn't surprise me.
This is the same smoothbrains who complained about old western TV show models being obsolete on streaming when Mando S1 came out... s2 and 3 are the worst seasons and guess which most closely stuck to the older model?
@CelticGuardian7 Absolutely. And its because these are selfish out of touch executives that don't ever blame themselves for being in the wrong.
Their business mindset prioritizes their survival within the company foremost, and anything that can be trimmed is fair game. Including developers who put their heart and souls into it, sad as it is.
It's a major issue with how different the videogame industry is from a lot of others. The cutthroat profitization way of living works in things like Steel or when going out entirely for yourself. But game companies require a certain level of human investment that doesnt come off as logical to these higher execs. You need people at the top that are understanding of the long term plan and risks associated with gaming.
That and the fact Microsoft put a $70+ billion hole in their pocket with nothing to show for it. Clown behaviour. They need to fall for this at this point I feel. But that'd also suck ass because then sony would be at the top which is almost EVEN WORSE. Remember 500 USDollars in 2005 and proprietary memory cards for the vita that literally accomplished NOTHING!?
Sorry for ranting at the end lol. But yeah a lot of big shit kinda stinks. But there's also a lot of incredible stuff to play out right now at least. Tsushima on pc baybeee
No Warner Bros cost themselves 200 millions. No one asked for this game. And it was low effort.
It isn't just we didn't ask for this, literal thousands of people said that they didn't want it
If only it was low effort, worse thing about it is that this was the best they could do. The right mindset and talent is long gone.
Facts.
SBI and DEI are to be blamed
Bro literally said rocksteady wanted to make it the way it was made lol
I blame both companies, rocksteady for the game direction and WB for the monetization
I'll guarantee this conversation is happening at WB HQ:
"WHY WON'T YOU LEARN YOUR LESSON!?"
"Because learning lessons is for children. And we're growed ups."
That would make children smarter then the higher ups in WB. Hmm , it does make sence. ("Our live service game flopped and cost us 200 mil $ ! Lets make another one!")
Unfortunately, grown-ups will also develop their ego in the process.
Warner Bros ain’t working with Rocksteady no more on future DC games lol Rocksteady really blew it, as if they didn’t learn from the failure of Avengerrs
Truly an OK Boomer moment lol
I think it is more about "How could this have failed? We had representation!" and "I think it is the very small minority of customers who didn't buy it that caused this. Only those 20 people or so can make us lose millions of sales".
Can we please stop saying this wasn't Rocksteady's fault? It took them almost a decade to make this garbage heap. Studio was mismanaged into the ground.
That’s pretty much how much Warner Bros Pictures lost for the Flash. Now WB Games is dealing with the same kind of flop. What sucks is that this game could have been awesome. But it wasn’t and those delays were a serious red flag.
Suicide Squad (SS for short) have lots of potential. But WB just squanders it. The only good SS content was the 2021 movie and some of the animated movies.
I thoight Gotham Knights was the red flag?
@@rascoehunter3608 Frankly almost every piece of Batman material seems to fall victim to the same trap and winds up rooted in the 90s-style, Liefield-esque "pizza cutter" approach to storytelling: "all edge, no point".
Harley Quinn isn't necessarily a bad or uninteresting character. Most of the rest of the Suicide Squad... kind of have been (King Shark? Really?), but even that could be changed with some good writing. Wouldn't be the first time a superhero team is carried by one or two more fully realized characters.
There have already been some comics where she makes a pretty solid anti-hero they could have built on, too. She's usually paired up with Poison Ivy in those, but given how utterly played out both her and Poison Ivy are as villains I'm very much okay with the two of them spinning off to have their own struggling-but-ultimately-heroic Gotham adventures with a small supporting cast. None of the characters are anywhere near that state in the Arkham 'verse, but that's what character arcs are for.
Even if they had to "kill the justice league" plot in this game, imagine if the point of the game was Harley coming into her own as a trying-to-be-heroic figure, with Batman's (obviously temporary, as we all know) death seeing him pass the baton in some way. Maybe a moment of lucidity before he dies, maybe a pre-recorded message he left her after he realized what was going to happen, whatever.
Sure would have been a lot more interesting than what we got, at least.
@@PhysicsGamer True. Also DC has a problem of over milking their characters as well. Harely Quinn especially.
PlayStation offered a 3 hour trial of the game and I couldn’t make it through a hour of it
I heard a rumor that this game's getting shut down next year. I think they should shut it down now. It's only going down.
They'll probably scrap all future content long before that
Remember, Anthem had like 6-7 seasons planned. Yet everything past the first got killed off because nobody was playing
And they wanted me to pay $70 for something that will be taken away within a year.... wow....
@@bobtom1495 Sounds about right. Not gonna be surprised if this is true
Gotta squeeze all the money from the fools that bought this "Live Service" early.
@@Yarharsuperpirate Ah Anthem, that game. Sold so bad that it was being sold for a penny. Truly one of the games of all time.
They were deffo pressured by industry trends regardless of who made the final call
But despite what the trends say, more live service games fail than they do succeed and the ones that manage it only do so because it's very much designed with the service in mind. Helldivers 2 is a good example.
The game needs more than just multiplayer and a functioning shop/battlepass to be sold as a live service game. Something that 90% of the industry doesnt seem to understand.

@GHOSTSTARSCREAM The whole live service industry is bad, yes. Just look at what a live service game entails! Endless grinding for paltry rewards, by definition. Don't be ridiculous-- alot of people do. Unfortunately, most of them are in DC's fictional universes and the ones in our world probably don't play games.
I don't mind being able to take out the Justice League. I _DO_ mind if the ways that gets done are complete and utter asspulls, like in this game.

WB should have known this was gonna flop. Storyline that players weren't very fond of upon hearing it, live service no one asked for, repetitive looking gameplay, and to top it off the Sweet Baby Inc kiss of death. I don't feel sorry for them at all 😂
I'm honestly tired of the Suicide Squad. This should've been a Justice League game!
Hilarious that these giant companies still think that what we want is not important. At this point, big name games are just completely worse than indie games.
Why did they think players would be fine with killing the Justice League?
Are they stupid?
(Obligatory r/BatmanArkham reference)
Wasnt even that . They just made the game that did it in as disrespectful way as possible (to maximally provoke the fans) on top of obvious grindfests to make you pay cash
Officer Balls
I think they simply think their audience is stoopid and will consume everything they release. Same with so many other franchises these days (Star Wars, DC, Marvel, etc.). The people running these companies have nothing but contempt for the audience and history of the franchise, but assume the audience will show up no matter how they change the source material. It is mindboggling to me to see how badly so many entertainment companies are run these days.

All corpetations sees is "how to nickle and dime people to potentially earn as much money as possible", yet they forget the FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT RULE, *MAKE A GOOD PRODUCT THAT PEOPLE WILL WANT TO BUY.*
What the hell did anyone expect from a game which dialogue sounded like a stream of James Gunn's tweets?
They had the perfect opportunity. When the Squad is clearly outmatched, a certain Ghost in Gotham goes public again as Batman to save the world one last time. The game ends with Bruce actually sacrificing himself to stop Brainiac. There you go.
You still get the Squad, you get Batman, and you get an actual good way for Batman to go out. You could drop hints that Selina and Bruce are expecting a kid then spin up a Batman Beyond story. They could have done something so much better. But no.. the fat cats at the top had other ideas.
It was just a bad idea to involve the squad in general. They're supposed to be disposable and do dirty work. If the game needs to involve Brainiac it should've been a JL game.
Idea?
No, they had NOTHING. They just want money, not ideas. There's no idea in this game. Its all preexisting stuffs and the artists and programmers scuffled and sabotaged to make this game as bad as it is.
Those 9 years are solely on Warner Bros. to blame.
@@Korra228 And when it comes to Brainiac and the JL, we already had Injustice 2 so we didn't even need to involve Brainiac at all. Use a different villain in a game to "Kill the Justice League" like Vandal Savage or Rhas al Ghul and use the Justice League: Doom comic/film as inspiration.
@@EJ_Red I don't even like the idea of killing the JL. Why not make a game where you play as them and fight Doomsday or Darkseid? This entire game premise was just idiotic.

"I don't know how executives have the positions and jobs that they do." - YongYea, May 2024
This quote sums up my thoughts perfectly. I don't get this industry: How often have executives to see other studios fail till they realize "Hey, it might be a bad idea to make another game/product like this"? Why do they keep trying? Why are they pushing so hard into anti-consumer territory? Why don't they learn about studios like Lariant? Why are executives still making millions over millions of dollars, even when failing to do whatever the heck they are supposed to to? And what the heck are they are doing anyway? What is their job in a daily 8 hour shift while studios are working on games/products?
Again: I simply don't get how this industry works. I would have been fired and after that be re-hired only to getting fired again, simply to show how much I fucked up at my job.
Corporations: "All these super successful studios I acquired keep failing to meet expectations. Are my expectations and terrible management to blame? No, it's the players that don't give me enough of their money"
Time to be honest about these bloated budgets. It's fraud.
I've said for the longest time that huge budgets does not automatically mean the game is going to be good or more importantly (for the industry) successful. If anything, I'd argue the industry is spending too much money on development. It's getting proven time and time again that smaller budget games are doing far better because they're not as expensive for the consumer and the developers/publishers do not need to make as much back to turn a profit.
Of course, they'll never learn.
They other guy still don’t get it lol.
The bloated budgets are executives eating up all the budget to buy new houses
200,000,000$ thrown in trash while some people can't even find food.

Naturally they are gonna blame Rocksteady for being a "failure studio" and those "ungrateful fans" for not "appreciating" their soulles product and wonder why everyone hates them while money just keep on vanishing and they do not know why.
I can make it make sense, Yong. The Suits all look at how much money Fortnite makes and go "I want all of that. Make me that."
They don't care about their studio's zone of expertise, they just want all of the money, all of the time.
Corporations trying to make a live service game work is like the common man who buys powerball tickets. If you can just get it once then you know you're set so you'll keep trying til you do.
This is the legacy of live service.... companies desperately want it to succeed and be the default for games because it makes them more money. They always seem to forget that it's not about what the company wants, but what their customers ultimately want.
But but but Sweetbaby told us that injecting everything they wanted into the game would make us so much money
How could they have possibly been wrong???
I think we need to identify that there is some Magic 8-Ball investment "advisor" that is common to all these companies, giving them one piece of terrible advice in what to focus on. It just seems too unreal they are all going lemming in on the same thing. Or maybe one TED-style talk all the CEO's went to... whatever, the commonality is a little too convenient. Doesn't excuse that big corpo management is dumb as rocks, though.
Nothing a few developer closures won’t fix! Bonus if the developers had nothing to do with the failure.
Who would've guessed. When everyone said it will be bad.. and WB ignoring that from all sides and still forcing that nonsense.. and even after trying to push that direction.. when reality cannot convince you for bad decissions.. what can?
You fail at your job and position .. that's all there is. People can make honest mistakes and it will happen everywhere, but in such a situation when your mistakes affect a lot of people and lives and you have no consequences .. its a bad situation.
Killed by Sweet Baby
lol people have told WB this would happen ages ago... they were furthered vindicated when they messed up how each character's suppose to feel unique and biggest nail in the coffin is how they fk'ed up every single boss battle and how they are taken out...
man, any job I've ever worked, if I was even partially responsible for wasting $200 mil I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have a job any longer... but AAA decision-makers get to just keep cruising
Maybe if WB wanted this game to support them, they should have made a good game.
It's amazing that when they released Gotham City Impostors with Arkham City, that didn't get lambasted, in fact it still has dedicated servers, and fans to this day.
I want to know who the 19% of critics that recommended this game are so I can avoid their other reviews
Pumping more money into a game does not mean that it's going to be good. When will these giant companies learn that? The execs looked around, saw how much money other live service games were making, told their team to do that and are now shocked that it failed. Honestly, they should make a valorant/overwatch 2 type game with all their cool characters... I don't get paid to give them good idea w/e.
Ah, yeah, let's double down live service and wokeness, even if they lost more money than the fund they saved.
Nah. That "nuance" is a cop out. Do not propose live service. Never propose it. If they want a live service, they'll tell you to put it in. If you're at the point where you purpose live service to get a game green lit, you are no different than the execs. You're proposing it, not them.
Sad, but not surprised to see that some comments promote the conspiracy that wokeness and SBI's involvement killed the game. Sorry guys, you don't get your pathetic GamerGate 2. An unnecessary and incompetent live service made this game dead on arrival.
Yes, the executives at WB are to blame and are greedy and have no idea what their audience wants. BUT
You cannot tell me there were not high ups at Rock Steady with history and pull who could not have pushed back on this dumb idea.
Sweet baby inc.
They did more advertisement then anything I was like this game better be good as much as as they advertise this game and look at it now smh
Sorry to say but from what am hearing is actually Rocksteady’s fault the argument that Warner Brothers should of stopped them from making a live service game doesn’t show that Warner ruined the game. Rocksteady knew what they were doing and should be blamed for it, hopefully the studio stays up but if it doesn’t the founders of Rocksteady made their own studio due to the changes in Rocksteady management showing the damage was already done even back then.
Meanwhile I'm playing Stellar Blade and paid FULL PRICE at launch, to support the game.
See! That sounds like a winning formula to me! I would have no problem paying full price for a well made game that doesn't put money hungry tactics on it's customers before the gameplay
Pretty sure it's still WB's idea. If WB gave off the impression or even said at one point they want to focus on live service games, then the studios showcasing a game with live service elements is the studios following orders that were given, directly or implied.
Its a lot more than being a live service that killed the Suicide Squad, as it goes bad over all design, shit writing and of course you can not ignore Sweet Baby Inc. It was set for failure since announcement so it losing so much is not a big surprise at all. Probably what is worse, is how much they spent on development and that was likely far higher than it should of been.
This is why AAA is failing and should fail. Let these big developers and studios just collapse already and have AA, Indie and classic games rise up.
Warner Brothers is going the route of mobile games. In a lot of mobile games a single person can cough up $50,000 to $100,000 that is what WB is looking for. Not units sold but a small few blowing large amounts on microtranactions
Let them call SweetBabyInc to help them now 😂
If you vote with your wallet, you don’t have to buy multiple copies of the game you like, just do not give trash live service games any money. How honkai star rail makes more money than BG3, because people pay them that way.
I bet, if rocksteady even made a classic arkham game instead of suicide squad, sweet baby inc. still would have ruined the whole experience.
I'm gonna tell you this now. Sweet baby inc doesn't work on games. Idk what people don't understand about that. They are a consultant group and have literally zero to do with game development. Stop with the misinformation. This game was the fault of no one but the suits on top.
@@Carrion0409 Yes it does. Kotaku is not a reliable source, it help with the writting. Consultant doesn't mean you don't do shit.
@trucbidule7357 I've never once been to kotaku. This is easily findable information. It seems you just choose not to so you can keep having something to be mad at and blame besides the actual issues in the industry.
@@Carrion0409 Easly information provided by who? A consultant worker gonna doing consultant work on project, and that does not amount to nothing.
Remember that while live service focus got free radical and our new Timesplitters hopes shut down
It’s all about money. The difference of potential of what a live service game can earn vs what a single player can is staggering. Companies don’t care about creativity they care about profit. They will destroy everything to make more profit. Warner Bros 100 percent pushed the live service and it failed. They can sit there and claim all they want you are not forced to do it, but if you don’t we may not approve it. And now Rocksteady is at risk of being closed down because of poor decisions made by Warner Bros
What is really baffling, is that game company executives see this failure, and the failure of other high profile live services, and go “well yes, but maybe the next one will be our GTA Online cashcow, so lets try again, and fire some more people”
When they say "fallen short of expectations" you gotta wonder what did they expect? Did they carry out market research? Release a demo? Like drop a UA-cam poll or something and see who wanted the game.
Oh wow. Who knew that If your target tells you they don't like the game it'll fail. Astonishing
