I saw Rebeca's Cheng live with my parents watching the event finals, I just said firmly as she landed: she just did the best vault of her career! The sensation of just witnessing History being made is indescribable.
Catalina Ponor, 3x Olympic Champion in 2004 missed the 2008 Olympics and returned in 2012.
They were talking about Olympic AA champions specifically

To be super critical, Rebeca piked down and had an arm circle at the end. But it was about as close to perfect as possible and imo the best one ever done
9.733 Andrade's score for this Cheng AND Maroney's 2012 Amanar team final vault. So basically 9.733 is the new 10.
Maroney was a great vault champion, who could wow judges & audience with her power & precision. Andrade is overrated.
Gabby never posted training videos in the past so I wouldn't expect her to post any now. I prefer to wait and see

I agree that you’re honoring the future by leaving the 10 open if it’s not literally perfect. Waiting for the day that small detail isn’t there and Rebeca gets her 10.
Pros: Simone’s landing and flight is seamless/smooooth. Rebecca has great twisting form and cat-like landing/sticky feet.
Cons: Simone has crossed feet and slightly lower amplitude than Rebecca. Rebecca pikes despite having better amplitude.
Imo: maroney’s amanar is still the gold standard (for any vault). THAT shoulda been a 10. The chest position. The emphatic landing. The amplitudeeeee. @ at the Olympics final no less.

I’d say Simone’s is more impressive in real time, you actually gasp when she vaults and she gets so much more distance. Rebecca’s is pretty and goes high, but feels less substantial. Also Cheng Fei’s form was better when she did it at her best, her legs stay together on takeoff from the horse, and she doesn’t pike down too much. Rebecca did beautifully but we have seen it done better. The stans need to get a grip.
Simone with her legs crossed and her hands far from being parallel on the horse. And you have the nerve to say that Rebe's stans need to get a grip lol
They need to bring back the perfect 10. The 10 should reflect the absolute state of the art, and andrades cheng is literally the best competed during this code of points. So make that a 10
Sam Peszek is a gymnast that I now look back on and wonder why she was so underrated.
Because she was never able to break out in the time she was around. It was all Nasty/Shawn....Just like Keri strug who had to battle it all about being Kim/Shannon
I would not give Rebecas vault a 10. I think they git it about right with the score because she had a slight pikedown and landed with her chest down and had a slight leg separation in the pre flight. However it was an amazing vault non the less
Simone is the best vaulter of this era. Rebecca is just the judge's favorite. Not impressed with becca.

You should pick the highest ranking team along with consistency of the gymnast(s) to hit her routines in high pressure situations.
If you put a wig on Spencer he would look JUST like Jessica and if you cut Jessica's hair she would like JUST like Spencer! LOL! Even their expressions are similar. Are they really one in the same?! lol
Skye is out, after two worlds and not garnering a medal, they'd be morons to take her to the Olympics...they need to look at Kaylia and Zoe unless Gabby can come up with a super hard D-score thanks to Valeri and sufficient Beam to be medal worthy.
Kristie had so much charisma and charm in her presentation and smile that judges in Seoul would have thrown "10.00"s at her...I discovered her in 1984 when when performed with the Olympic team after the games tour of America...she was so energizing, I knew she was one to watch....

Ya Skye sucks... I said it after her 1st worlds and was shocked they put her on again as I KNEW she would fumble! She does at almost EVERY competition ... ugh...

Skye was consistent on beam all of 2023 and literally placed 2nd in every event besides floor (and that was mainly due to her not doing many numbers on floor since she has an injury), so saying that she sucks is a ridiculous claim to make. Also, last year was her first major senior international event so of course she’s gonna have some mistakes along the way especially with a difficult beam routine. Y’all just want to bash someone so quick when you will never be in their shoes or skill level as a professional athlete. Be so fr…
Skye is definitely not out of the conversation. Yes, beam is her major selling event, but she’s a strong all arounder and has more potential than most other gymnasts at the moment. With Kaylia and Zoe, they literally have only one way to make the team and it’s solely based on how other athletes are looking. You wouldn’t want to use Zoe’s other 3 events (maybe except beam) and you wouldn’t want to use Kaylia’s bars especially if an athlete were to have an injury. Zoe didn’t even placed top 3 on bars, so I don’t see how her bars is more valuable compared to other athletes because bars isn’t even a weak event for the US anymore. At this point, the US has too much depth for them to take a gymnast who only specializes on one event, especially when at best the athlete will get a bronze medal. Meanwhile Skye has two different ways to make the team: through AA and UB/BB. She literally placed 2nd in every event besides floor and was a reserve for this world bars finals. This whole recency bias thing to bash an athlete is ridiculous and unnecessary because it doesn’t help anyone but only hurt them. It’s way too early to say that a particular gymnast is out of the running when literally anything could happen and what happens next season will be more important than 3 falls from previous years…

What I like about Rebeca is the ability of making her vaults look so beautiful. It doesn't matter if Simone has the best Cheng ever, I prefer Rebeca's.
Ok i have said it for years. In 88 Kristie look fabulous i felt at trials. Kristie had slimmed down a lot. I did feel and this is petty that her hair cut at the trials was too much for her. With all the concern over he "weight" issue, a shorter cut like at 87 Pan-Ams would have given her the physical package she needed. The videos we saw of her at the 88 Olympics when they showed example videos she looked great. I would have liked to have seen her bars at trials. I would also say she looked better in the training vids then she did at trials so. Go Kristie I do think she would have made the team stronger and the bronze would have been easily synched.
She actually had grown her hair OUT while at Don Peters from January till May and even had it in a pony tail in looked shoulder length in an interview at 88 USA vs USSR, but after returning to Bela in May of 88 HE IS THE ONE who wanted her hair back to pixie cut and back to her old floor routine and music. She would have DEF benefited I think to have kept even growing her hair out even LONGER and by trials it would have been even below her shoulders and prolly "slimmed" her face out even more as that era was so consumed with weight. I agree she kept looking better n better even after trials. There was a 88 Carolina Invitational and she looked great and as you said a the games they used her in intros to events and how the gymnasts worked them and she looked amazing. Meanwhile the one who beat her with inflated scores in her hometown at trials Missy Marlowe who I do like btw but the WORST she looked was AT the games! And what a difference since trials. Like I feel like she made the team and then went home and ate Mcdonalds and worked out maybe an hour a day as she looked just sluggish and out of shape and blah at the games. Kristie deserved to be there and it was so close and she was VERY underscored a tenth on every event at trials and that made the difference of her not going as the competition in the last few slots was so so close. I was SO mad when she did not make it even then!!! LIVID!! Melissa was a decent gymnast but I could NOT and still NOT wrap my brain around how Ronda was ahead of Kristie! Looking back at her beam and floor... Total joke. Kristie was robbed of going in multiple ways. She should have been allowed to train with them and do how they do now... Take the top ten and then pick the team a week before. In that case Kristie DEF would have made the team as 2 months later at the games Missy again looked WAY different and Kristie looked WAY better. UGH
What is Jessica saying?? I watched the Cheng Fei vault from 2006 and it doesn’t come close - plus she obviously hops…
I hope for the Olympics the usa selection committee focuses on maximize the number of medals and not the maximum team score. With today's policies McKayla Maroney, for example, would maybe have been left out (like Jade)
The highest possible team score would in fact result to the highest possible number of medals.
Jessica just bothers me because all she mentioned was Simone’s crossed legs, when her preflight and body position were both better than Rebeca’s. She just loves to yap and make it seem like she knows what she’s talking about. 😭
As long as Rebeca has those obvious deductions it absolutley shouldn’t be a 10, just unfair to ignore for example a pike down on a great vault but take the deduction on a bad vault.
Cheng Fei hopped in the 2006 event final....
She loses in landing and amplitude. But she was as pencil straight as straight can be, so the air form was exceptional.

It irritates me when gymnasts only come back for Olympic years. They didn't help get get the team qualified for the Olympics, but they want to take a spot on the team.
I understand the frustration, but I don’t think any of them want to take the Olympic team spot from someone else, they want to earn it for themselves. If they can prove they are they are the better choice at the time of the Olympics, they shouldn’t be punished. Pacing is important to peak at the right time. No matter what happens, there will always be very talented and capable gymnasts left at home. Yes it is heartbreaking for a gymnast to train so hard for so long and not make the team, but there is so much talent in the US that not everyone will see that Olympic dream come true. Plus, with more and more gymnasts continuing the sport for longer and at such a high level, it’s good for the evolution of the sport IMO.
How is it taking if they earned it??

Simone all day she's a better vaulter than Andrade. No gymnasts produces more amplitude than Simone. What have they been smoking? Andrade has no original vaults.

maroney and andrade both should have received 9.9 e scores at least (maroney for not showing complete control on landing, and andrade for slight pike down) but relative to everyone else, they're so much better and it should show more in the scoring, esp. when most vaults being done today have so many errors...
It’s not possible to get a 9.9 e score. There’s not a .10 deduction for anything.
