Happy to see Radious on the rock bottom. Radious with its units pack expansion (in Total War: Attila) is a perfect example of bad design of changes in units and unit rosters: - hilariously bad names of new units - " Elite Noble " - soldiers on unit cards in Attila are dark, but background is light, so contrast is correct, but guys in this mod changed it by adding dark colored background that destroys contrast. This background shows class of the unit, but it useless because you have pictogram with information about unit class - sometimes less is more. Unit expansion submod adds many new units that in my opinion are not necessary. Every faction doesn't require elite crossbowman. If every faction has a lot of units in various unit classes it makes using them less unqiue because you are not limited by lack of some type of unit. Imagine adding dragon to every faction in Warhammer
I would also put medieval 2 kingdoms campaign mod in S tier. It retains the classic vanilla feel whilst pruning some of its most annoying bugs and deficiencies. It also enables some creative options for light modding.
This is an excellent video...one of your best. One thing you could have done is left links in the description to every mod. Wars of the Gods and Para Bellum are fantastic Rome 2 mods.
I like your choices for S tier, all of those mods really a thorough in their changes and feel very complete, to the point that they feel like new games. Med 2 especially has proven to be such a great platform for modding. Also 1212 AD needs a bit more polish but is absolutely going to be S tier worthy.
I know you'll probably never give it a try but the modding scene for the total warhammer games is probably the best in the series. Not only do you have mods that add whole new factions and mechanics but also the map modders have made whole expansions to the map and whole new campaigns themselves. On top of all that the mods get made and updated far faster than any of the historical mods and generally run in a much more stable condition. I love the historical mods but can't help but feel you're missing out
Good list DEI best mod for any total war game period. It turns total war from an arcade to a real thought provoking strategy . I can’t wait for me to go home December 20 from school my legions need me
Everyone has their own favorite mods, but my favorite mod in this series is the Medieval 1100 AD Mod from Total War Rome 2, as if I were playing Total War Medieval 3. Then there's Rising Sun from Shogun 2, but it only adds Korea because I think it would be too much to include China
Genuine question, may I ask why you prefer 1100 over MK1212 for Attila? Also I'm interested in Rising Sun, but how is the map of Korea? I've seen somewhere that it's just like a flat map with no mountains etc. Is that true?
@CheriShin21 Because I haven't bought Total War Attila yet, the series I currently own are Medieval 2, Empire, Napoleon, Shogun 2, Rome 2, Rome Remastered, and all three Warhammer series. I don't like Rising Sun with the addition of China because the map is too large.
Tier lists like this are great, but some constructive feedback: 1. A video that is nearly an hour long really needs timestamps either baked into the video via youtube's editor / uploader tools or in the description. Especially since you're covering so many mods and games here. 2. The video is very difficult to follow if you're someone kind of looking for some mods to try for a particular game. I'd highly recommend doing these tier lists by the game they are for rather than all at once randomly intermingled. If they are all going to be done in the same video, they should still be done by game rather than jumping from game to game with every subsequent rating. For example: in the beginning of the video you are rating mods for three different total war games. There is a wealth of information here, but it's difficult to tell which mod is for which game at a glance.
I can tell you Morning Sun has a lot of amazing things coming its way! :D (and should be in A tier). I think with how incredibly rough it is, sadly, Viking Age should be C tier. Even without navies or the updated campaign map, I think 1212 should be S tier even as it is now. Honestly I think the same goes for FotE+EP. There are a few other things but imo great video!
What an excellent video, thank you for this! I have played most of these mods and for me the GOAT mod is 100% Divide and Conquer. It kind of ruined most other mods for me. The immersion is insanely good, I find myself getting lost in Middle Earth just listening to the music and looking around the map. Each faction is drastically different and requires you to play to its strengths or you will get punished. The units are incredible and I found myself blown away by the custom cities and battle maps. The only limitations on the mod are those of the M2TW engine, and the team is even working on overcoming that. All to say you have been warned, if you get into DaC get ready to lose hundreds or thousands of hours from your real life 😂😂
insted of pike and shot you could ve talked about 1648 total war, maybe if we get the mod back in the spotlight the team will try to fix some of the crashing issues, still the definitive 30 years war total war mod. in terms of the work put in it would be up there with EBII in terms of quality if some issues were fixed also beginning of the end times for med 2 is also S tier, lowkey much more fun than the actual warhammer games. the game of thrones mod is also amazing the only radious mod i ve ever enjoyed was the one for 3 kingdoms also the real ones will remember how goated darthmod rome total war was
Awesome video. You rarely see comparative ranking like this for mods and doing so can be tricky, but I think you approached it well. As a modder, I don’t think mods being free should make them immune to critical feedback. There’s a lot that can be explained by time constraints but poor design is poor design. There’s modders with less time on their hands who make considerations others with more time don’t. Comparisons which allow the developers of mods which stand out to get the credit they deserve, shouldn’t be avoided out of worry you’ll offend the devs of those which don’t.
