i really appreciate the videos man. you saved me thousands, i was able to rebuild my 2012 535i n55 engine after veiwing your series many times over, been subscribed.. ik it sucks but if you do more similar series for more commonly driven vehicles im sure this channel will start to pay off your doing great with the videoproduction and every aspect
Thanks! I love watching pros do it, but then it’s like.. I can’t do half of this stuff in my own garage 😅 so I show how it can be done by simple DIYs like me
I have never watched a video so clearer detailed and easy step by step understanding of assembling this type of engine👌👍. I would definitely want those tools to try on my seized 335i engine. Please send me the list as well online shop where I can buy them. I am in South Africa
I'm slowly getting there, just finished timing the engine today, so not that far from installing it! This project sure does need a lot of patience if you are doing it at home and for the first time.
Hi, i love your job§ Very pro and clean§ I'm looking for the technical spec for all tightsening torque on thie engine, where do you find the information? thank"s
My 2009 335i e93 M-Sport engine started with a slight knock when over revving or changing gears. Now it has seized totally and I am advised to buy another engine. But then I cant beat the curiosity to know the problem. I just can't keep on buying. So your video has just curled the enthusiasm.
Hello, I bought a new crankshaft but not original BMW so I don't have the QR code and the numbers and letters as we usually have on the original, is there another way to know what bearings do I need for this crankshaft?
Great video I wish you was close by me in FL I score my crank and spun a bearing. Shops are telling me replacing the engine is a less expensive route :/ I wish I had two working arms to do this myself. Great video keep them coming 💯
Hi, thanks for the informative video. Quick question my coefficient of friction is about 5 nm to get started but once moving is around 2nm. Do you know if that is within spec? It’s 2nm pretty much instantly. Just the initial movement if I leave it for a day or a few hours is around 5 To 6 nm
the backplate to block sealant, I love the fact that you don't have to use the nipples to spread that thing around. Any idea if there are updated instructions for all engines? Mine is a 2012 N51 from a 328i coupe engine. Same deal I would much rather not have to squeeze the sealant it seems much easier the way you did it. What about at the main seals where you're supposed to use the primer from the little bottle once the sealant leaks out through there? Let me know what you think.
Great job mate, you are a legend. Where did you get the assembly instruction from? I will also be rebuilding an N55 over the coming weeks. I am just paranoid about the first start and priming the oil after spinning # 1 on multiple occasions. Please take care when you first start your engine my friend. I am hoping that the third time will be a charm.
I use ISTA or TIS website when it works. As far as the first start, there is a special function on BMW diagnostics tool that will prime the system. If I remember correctly, it will spin the engine without ignition or fuel until oil pressure builds up and then you can fire it up normally. I'll have to check it again before I start it for the first time and probably make a video about it. Somehow your comment fell through the filter! Thanks for watching!
Hello, I have a question my engine block is dead (bmw e92 335i n55) I would like to replace this engine block but I wanted to know what number I should look at and where to be sure that it corresponds to my engine Thank you for your reply
Hi! You will see a part number on the block as well as a sticker with something like N55B30 on it. That's the version of N55 you have and the block you should get. Other may fit.. but it depends (like if you have the 2 series M engine). Thanks for watching.
By mistake I pull the center screw I crack the engine and everything came out I hear something fall and I put everything back, do you think the timing moved or something fall in side the oil pan? Thank you for your help
If by center screw, you mean the main engine bolt that goes on the crankshaft, then if you have got it loose, you will have to retime the engine. If you pulled the bolt out, the sprocket on it could have fallen in (the one that drives the oil pump).
I don't think the specs would be the same for that engine, but I don't know for sure. I'd recommend getting INPA or ISTA (I don't remember which one exactly). It will have all older BMW specs.
It's a software, which you usually have to pay for. Unless you can get it for free from someone, I'm sure you can get a good amount of the repair manuals on bmw forums where people post them.
May I know the n55 rod bearing bolt torque spec? Because I found the spec from web is 20nm and then 70degrees and then 70degrees again , when I follow this progress method, the crankshaft wont move freely, so I follow your method with 20nm and then 70degrees , the crankshaft can move freely without friction
I know this is an old comment but I’m rebuilding mine and found this information too before seeing this video. It does feel like it’s not as tight with the 20nm and 70deg but the 20/70/70 was definitely too much as I couldn’t spin my crank. Now I have to buy another set of bolts but luckily didn’t break them.
I started watching your video and decided to put work on hold for a few minutes LOL love this video as it hits home with me. I currently drive a 2013 550 I Gran Turismo with approximately 64,000 km on it. I’ve been told all kinds of horror stories about N63 and N63TU variant. So it’s nice to see that you’re able to fix your vehicle by you yourself . Not to mention, you’re using some cheaper tools that are affordable as opposed to expensive tools. Which could make it, a little cost prohibitive for some people if they were to run out and buy all of the expensive tools. Although, we all love our tools right? I did have a question though, just wondering if you think I should be proactive on changing out the Vanos solenoid as I’ve heard many horror stories about it in my vehicle?
Appreciate you watching! I have a 2014 550i as well, so I know the horror stories that are floating around and sometimes I worry, but I'm at almost 80,000 miles and almost 4 years of ownership with no issues at all other than regular maintenance. I sure love my tools and wanna buy all the good stuff, but it get's expensive as you mentioned. Once I have mostly everything I'd need, I might start replacing the tools I use with higher quality ones. We'll see! Anyway, as far as VANOS solenoids, I wouldn't touch them unless you are having issues like rough idle, bad fuel economy etc.
@@SimpleCarGuy I always seem to find a way to buy more tools :) Thanks for the advice on the Vanos solenoid. I was actually thinking to replace it. The cost here isn’t that bad to do it, so will see what happens. Idle seems to be ok, the mileage/fuel economy is terrible so not sure about that part. I get 17 km per 100 litters of fuel in city (ouch) and 11 km on the highway. My brother-in-law says it’s almost the same as his full size Ford pickup.
So I’m in the same situation with my N54 and I bought the same exact bearings. What I’m having a issue with is that the trust bearing oil hole is not lining up perfect. I noticed in your video they are the exact same. Isn’t that a flaw?
I've checked on the forums etc and everyone seems to agree that it's fine.. I hope they are right. Have you found any more information on this since the comment?
@@SimpleCarGuy it looked like you had an electronic manual is what I mean. I have the Bentley manual but a better detailed one for service/assembly is what I seek
I decided to sell the old crankshaft and bought a good used one instead. I kept in touch with the person I sold it to and his shop charged something like $150 to grind down the journal and $25 to polish the others.
Hi there I have a bmw 2011 e93 I need to change fuel injectors you look like you can do a good job you can change in my car I pay I’m in New York let me know
Love your videos man! I am actually rebuilding my '15 N55 motor right now due to a spun rod bearing as well. Just curious, what manual are you using? I have been using the Bentley one and it doesn't seem to have as much detail as yours. Thanks, and good luck.

I need help with the tightening torque of the n55 connecting rod bearings
Did your bedplate seal? I think you were supposed to use the Loctite flange gasket maker there not the liquid one with the bedplate open.
Great video. Thanks for all the time and effort. Now and in the future.
Always good to see you, Tom!
How can I turn my crankshaft I’m trying to instal my pistons and I already sealed the bed plate

Sorry to hear that! Yes, if you have someone do it, it's cheaper to put a used motor in than to fix it.
Thanks for watching!
I have an N20 engine for 320i that need to be changed crankshaft ,timing kit and bearings . Will the engine give the same performance
i put a brand new cranckshaft and bearing STD but i have 0.025 of clearance...good?
you are so clutch for the amazon list thank you
Hi, i have a similar problem like yours now i need good block with pistons.
hi, thanks for your videos. my crankshaft n55 spun bearing on the cyl 1 connecting rod. Can I fit an n54 crankshaft on my n55 block?
Where did you buy the main crank hex bolts for the n55 engine?
Is this possible with engine still connected to the engine bay?
You can do the rod bearings while the engine is still in the car, but not the rest.
