"Why do selfish people have kids?"
1. Narcissists are shagging
2. Money/tax dollars
3. Support
4. Emotional support
5. Image
6. Control
The list goes on
Too lazy to reach for the condoms seems to be another. Or just assume since they get married kids are expected, as if it's some of tradition rather than responsibility.
Don't want the stigma of having an abortion
Too many people think that having kids = happy life, only to be disappointed and realize that 99% of the time having kids won't fix your already failing marriage/relationship
@@FangirlismDetected It doesn't help the confusion when delusional parents keep preaching that having kids was the best thing that ever happened to them, it gave their lives so much meaning, blahblahblah. The inherent flaw of that particular argument is the majority of parents who say that always _wanted_ to have kids and centered all of their life goals around that concept as if it were an inevitability, whereas other people who prioritize other goals and aspirations over having kids don't have that mindset and don't realize that the parents proselytizing procreation (unintended alliteration is TIGHT!) always planned to have kids. The result is someone who never wanted kids and who never had a plan to add kids to their lives finding themselves in over their head as they try to balance their previous life goals with the needs of raising children to chase some ethereal concept of "happiness" and not realizing that it's actually impossible to balance both things.
@@Dargonhuman Calling those parents delusional is wrong though, unless they’re claiming it’s also best for everyone else. If it was the best thing ever for them, then it still was, “for them.” Framing it as preachy sounds like a personal problem.

THESE PEOPLE BE POPPING OUT DEMON SPAWNS FROM THE CROTCH BECAUSE THEY FEEL LIKE IT-
"Why would these selfish people have kids?"
Let me tell you. I was a teacher for only two years, and my heart goes out to teachers everywhere, because one of the saddest things about being a teacher is realizing how many narcissists have children just so they can create mini versions of themselves. These types of parents often see their children as extensions of themselves instead of individuals.
Either that, or they often have this vision of "completing the set" as in to have a complete & full life, they often see kids as a part of that instead of just wanting them because they have a desire to be parents. It's sad.
Basically, narcissists are people who have problems and instead of trying to fix their problems, they try to do things that cause more damage than good.
They also want children to control them, to have someone fully dependent on them. Its gross
Your comment was very enlightening. As someone who periodically babysits, and who is around kids often I can definitely see what you're saying.
Yup, a show about parents that really want to just create glorified clones of themselves. Gross.
@Riorozen please don't remind me, I already know what you mean 😔
"Theres no female representation in adult animation, so we made one"
"She has a very male energy"
I just... how did she not hear herself?
Either she was trying to appeal to a perceived audience that would want a female lead with "male energy" or more likely she wasn't really thinking when she said that and just kept going.
@@somercet1 why bring feminism apart of this?
@@garnetBUNNIES These kinds of people are always obsessed with feminism. Must be so much fun at parties.
I think that she had.. SOME kind of idea... Like she knew she wanted to break the mold of what female characters in animation are supposed to act like... and peoples' first idea of how to do that is to make them act like men for some reason.
@@garnetBUNNIES It's already a part of it the moment they took a show type that's not inherently gendered and then say "it's like x, but for women!". Case and Point: Roseanne. I know she's all canceled and shit these days but that was a fantastic family oriented sit com that managed to both be pretty real to life alot of times and also still be remarkably entertaining and it was female led. The family sitcom is not a gendered genre, live action or animated either one.
The art style looks like something you would see in the 2000s.

I feel like that premise works better if it’s live action, since you have the cute kids as a selling point
That's what I was thinking too. It would have tied in perfectly with the controversy that made her have to retire.
@@Mangacide And by the end of season 1, she realized that she genuinely cares, and starts to actually TRY being a good mom, possibly turning down a way back in to the industry. Boom! You have a character showing growth, reflection, and compassion. Things that shows like Family Guy and Simpsons can't/won't do as they are now consigned to plot of the day episodes before hitting the reset button at the end.
I think Allen Gregory kinda kneecapped that possibility
@Josh the Joshey Boii what does that have to do with the comment
If your show is a “female version of X”, “male version of X”, “gay version of X”, etc then it’s doomed from the start. Don’t make shows solely to be a ripoff, at least try to be original
Would this include fanfiction?🤔
@@animelover_1012 yes
At least fanfics don't try to make money with it...
Only if it's not very unique
@MR.CLAW97 nope, most gay people do notice it, (the high praise comes from media) as there's literally a term for it "queerbaiting" as it's called,
I had honestly thought that "Mother Up" was going to be a series about a mom who constantly has to deal with her chaotic family.
I was dead wrong.
It could easily go into “boring mom and the adventures of her more interesting husband and kids”, like The Simpsons from Marge's perspective. I don’t know where the line between making the female main character a complete asshole and the boring foil for others adventures would be, but I'm not a screenwriter. I wish an actual writer would actually try to strike that balance and write a fun, adventurous mom with her chaotic kids.
Did you regret watching it?
I never did. This review is all I know of it.
"There's no female presence in animation"
*stares in magical girls*
Yes.
Every bandori character is female
Not in US-centered adult animation, like Family Guy
Powerpuff Girls, She-Ra, Teen Titans had great female characters, etc...
For the next 200 years that saying will probably stick no matter what.
"Why did these self centered people have kids?"
They use kids for attention, as accessories, some weird idea that kids are pets 2.0, investment in their retirement by hoping one makes it big, couples think it's the "next step", to gain a one up on their family and friends, etc etc
Oh shit, how do you know my parents!?
So you mean I should return the leash and collars for my kids?

Don’t forget the smooth brain Midwesterners that think babies save relationships.
@@Kygaahh right idk why people think that
usually when shows or movies are advertised as "the female version of _____" or focus on gender/sexuality instead of what makes it original/different, they pretty much always fail
Most shows and movies fail anyway so that doesn't really mean anything
You hear about Q-Force? Awful.

Well, I think advertising something by directly referencing another property tends to be a bad idea in general. Not only does it do a disservice to the creative crew, it turns away some people from the get-go.
- If someone likes the original property, why would they watch (possibly inferior) clone of it, when the original is right there?
- If someone doesn't like the original property, why would an imitation catch their interest? Logic would follow that if they dislike the original, they'll dislike the copies as well.
- If someone is a fan of a given genre, but does not like that specific franchise, then why would they watch an imitation that'll be inflicted with the same flaws as the original?

@@sleepieststella *WHEEEEEZE*
It almost feels like the show is made for karen's, with Karen characters in it. I mean, they're narcissists, right?
Honestly, I feel like this could be a lot funnier if Rudy had adopted the two kids for a better PR move. She's not retiring/quitting her job, she's only taking a break until media outrage dies out. Put her agent as a character who insists that Rudy has to raise the kids in order to get the media back on her side
See, that idea works a lot better. It sounds like a natural premise for Rudi.
Rudy ends up loving the kids and she doesn't want to admit it. She can commit to horrible actions but she'll never hurt her kids. And she'll threaten anyone who hurts them. This makes Rudy redeemable so it gives as a reason to root for her. And if you're main character is going to be an asshole they need someone to care for. Just to show they're not devoid of empathy.
@@HannahDecember that will be key; no matter what Rudi does, she would NEVER intentionally harm either child. In addition, Rudi and that blonde chick (I forget her name) could bond and become actual friends over time.
add character arcs that pay off and I'm sold
@@Jonkin715 I think it would really pay off too if she started as an asshole who's abrasive, is out all night partying and drinking, all in all neglecting the only thing that can save her job. Have one of the kids do something that sets her off and as she storms to her room she talks to the agent/bodyguard about a terrible experience from her childhood that she feels blame for because she did the same thing. The kids overhear her and understand her more, and the agent gives her the levity that the kids are innocent and not responsible for her past, and that she's responsible for their futures. She starts trying to better herself and even starts going to AA meetings for stability. Let her stumble, let her fail, but always let her learn after she does. Give the kids depth and make their reactions to the situation reasonable, including their initial joy and hope only to be reluctant and doubtful, to then grow slowly into trusting her as she's growing to care about them. People don't need to be perfect, they just need to be real. The world is full of moral ambiguity and I think a portrayal of this could be so good. Especially at the inevitable end, where she gives up on the career and takes a humble job to have a real family without the glitz and glamour. After a cool arch as well Agent ends up becoming their significant other since the kids basically view them as a parental figure to begin with (given they're the only responsible one, even if they're cold).

Whenever anything is called "This thing. But for women" it makes it seem like the original wasn't already for women. And that's just bizarre to me.
I'm not a fan of Family Guy like, at all, but I've never heard anyone from the fandom or even who make the show ever say anything exclusionary about their women fans. I've talked to just as many women fans of the show as I have men fans and not one of them has ever complained about inclusivity or problems with representation. So for a "clone show" to lean on that "...but for women!" marketing smells to me of virtue signalling and so-called "woke culture" that never really seems to find much success.

"why would these selfish people have kids?"
having grown up with a narcissist mother while also being engaged to someone in the same boat, there's really only one word for it: power. narcissistic parents often feel the need to control something or someone, thus they control their children just so they can have that sense of power.
granted, i am not a parent and certainly don't speak for all [good or bad] parents out there, so i can't outright declare that narcissist parents don't love their children. it's very likely they do, but that's not the issue. the issue is how they tend to use said love as some kind of guilt trip when you realise the kind of abuse they put you through, and potentially the abuse of others around you. they clamour on about having done the bare minimum (clothes, food, etc) and fail to realise that if they hadn't, they'd go to jail. worse yet for them, their children would be taken away from them, and they would ultimately lose the only person(s) they could completely control. i cannot tell you how many times my parents have used that shit on me.. and how meaningless it actually was each time as i got older. for the longest time, i believed the only way my mother expressed her love for me was through gifts; she couldn't be bothered to hug me when i got older.
and just recently, she had the audacity to ask me to lie on paper for her (saying i live with her despite kicking me out when i was 16) just so she could buy a house, claiming it would be a better future for my brother. it made my stomach turn: my mother needed me, and my brother was depending on me.
except that wasn't the case at all. when i finally told my dad and stepmother about it (who are just as bad as her), they were pissed. i'm only turning 19 this august. if i cosigned this, my life would be ruined; my credit score would plummet. finally, i stood up to her and said no. she hasn't spoken to me since, which is fine.
*** tl;dr, selfish, narcissistic parents only want children so they may control them for their entire lives, and may even go so far as to use them just to save their own asses.
Glad you stood up for yourself. It's a tough road surviving narcissistic families and lovers. I left my abusive relationship with my mother and family 7 years ago. @@waterdhavian_wizard thank you. It's thoughtful of you to stay in touch with your brother until he is set at least. "What if we did [popular show], but for [demographic x]?"
"You mean, 'what if we made an inferior copy of something because it's popular, limiting our viewership, and then limited it further by explicitly pitching it exclusively to a particular audience?' Capital idea. Someone buy this executive more drugs."

Perfection
Plenty of successful show started out as copies of another show.
I think the problem is when shows say they want to be “Family Guy: for X” instead of trying creates stories on their own merits. I don’t think people want “Peter Griffin, but a lady”. One is enough for all of television lol
I mean, Cleveland Show gave us "Peter Griffin, but black" and no-one complained.
@@jovenc4508 it got canceled,so i'm sure SOMEONE did.XD

Why make a game of it? The pilot episode of Mother Up made me want to drink more than your game would... "Black goat sucker"... I'm going to go drink vodka and get that out of my head.
*I REALLY wish Saberspark would review the Canadian sitcom, "Fugget About It". It only had three seasons, but is really enjoyable and is also a Family Guy copycat. I recommend it.*

Hey Saber! There’s this animated movie called Birdboy: The Forgotten Children that I think you might like. It’s right up your alley in terms of dark/adult animation :)
Oh jeez not birdboy
@@NoOne-yp8ot Is it bad? 🤔
@@thema1998 if by bad you mean depressing, then yea
@@thema1998 not AT ALL. Animation is unique and visceral (you'll get what I mean when you see it). The characters are interesting. But the movie is thoroughly depressing.
I'd recommend it if you're into more mature animation.
We should tell steve reviews to watch it. It's perfect for him
Actually, more than Family Guy this show reminds me of another hulu animated show called Fugget About It. A family having to relocate to Canada after one of the parents does something that gets them in trouble and they try to adjust to this new life. Sound familiar? This show is actually funny at times tho. 😆
You seem like a very likeable person in your videos and for some reason I feel like you would be really fun to listen to in real life too :)
I just get that vibe.
Keep up the great work as a man in my 20s this is good stuff to watch after work.
Also I’m your Canadian viewer I’m proud you called us Can-Adia. It made me giggle.
I hated the "Family Guy" era. Where almost every show was similar or close to it
Family Guy is a terrible influence to the animation industry, for real.
Didn't help that half of them were made by Marfarlane himself. At least when Matt Groening makes a new show he does things to keep it seperate from The Simpsons.
I am the cool kid from Germany making videos for the USA and the rest of the world. I will make your day so don't say nay to me today, dear per
@@DonVigaDeFierro I remember listening to the commentary for the South park episodes where they mock Family Guy as a running gag parellel to the main plot, and Matt & Trey said they got thank you letters from The Simpsons/King of the Hill writers for doing it.
I draw cartoons and consider family guy one of my mild influences. I don't make anything raunchy or edgy. I love its laid-back doesn't take its self to seriously tone and the fast pacing. I might throw in a cutaway gag every now and then.
"I love Lucy" was good because Lucy represents the average hard working American with no qualifications trying to make money in a comedic manner by brilliant yet stupid.
Great example. Lucille Ball was brilliant, ahead of her time and a truly sweet heart.
It also worked because it literally broke the mold at the time. Women were portrayed in shows and movies as being beautiful and glamorous and Lucille Ball was willing to get dirty and ugly for the joke while Ricky played the straight man. It was honestly just.. a brilliant combination. And we can't talk enough either about Vivian Vance, who gracefully aided Lucy and acted as her best friend vs her miser husband, Fred Mertz.
Just a fantastic show and it just showed what an amazing talent they all were to make it work especially at the time.
I remembered this show in elementary school when I was in a townhouse I loved it lol, good times when it was musically instead of tik tok, and I played stick Page and watched tobuscus and got a phone from a friend that can only look up pictures and take videos of gumball lol
Love your videos
"What's SaberSpark, do we own that?"
"Not yet, Mister Mouse."
Honestly not surprised, only "family guy Clone" I like is American dad, because at least the characters have there own personality- and I don't really think of it as a clone anymore tbh (btw for anyone I am calling it a "clone" because saber put it in the video)
Yeah American Dad really is a show on its own. It’s only similarities to Family Guy is a family and the art style.
I actually like American Dad more than Family Guy. It's more consistent to its overall story and feels more relevant to what story it is trying to say "American tropes and events" than Family Guy's randomness.
I prefer American Dad over Family Guy, AD characters are more than just foils for the main characters(in FG case Peter).
That show was good up until they just used Roger for every other character
I like American Dad because it’s turned into a show where literally anything can happen and hardly anyone questions it.
when I was a kid at night I would sneak into my living room and watch family guy and the Simpsons my dad woke up and started watching it WITH ME instead of yelling at me
It looks like it was animated in flash
Horsin' Around seems to be a lot funnier than this show, i miss the 90s.

There’s also a UA-cam series called “Family Gal”. You can look that up. It’s got a few episodes right now
You ever get the feeling, when the actors and producers are trying to pitch the shows in magazine interviews, the only time anyone ever reads them is for video obituaries like this one?
Yes
No
What does this mean
Perhaps?
It would be interesting to have a cartoon with a toxic mother figure as the main character. Mother up had potential.
Absolutely, but when the focus is checking boxes instead of trying to write a good story then these shows are always doomed to fail.
Bob's Burgers was a nice departure from the Family Guy/Simsons format.
