I'm a beginner and have watched many spey videos but I've learnt the most from Antti's video! Antti breaks down more of the set up, stroke in an easy to follow video. Many thanks!!

Thank you Antti! I have been flyfishing for 50 odd years and finally this year I invested in two double hand rods. Your video is by far the best I have seen. The way you break down each part of the cast and the way you describe each sement is brilliant! Big fan and thank you!!! Can`t wait for warmer weather.....

I got a two hand rod in november, and have spent all winter trying to get a grip of the basics of the two hand Scandi style cast. This guy in a 18 min video manage to show in the most beautiful way all of the aspects of both Scandi and Scagic style casting. It´s so perfect I can´t even start to explain how much I have learned. And it´s for free!

Another commenter noted how excellent this is as an intro and tutorial to two handed rods. I concur heartily. Very helpful as I’ve taken up this form of fly fishing! Remarkable attention to details that matter. I watch before every trip to refresh my memory … and after to sort out where I was making my mistakes.

Hi Antti, very good video. I like it very much that you do not talk so much and explain theoretically like many others. You explain what you have in mind and execute it. Most others explain and talk too much. That does not help me.

Thank you very much for the video and the detailed explanations and illustrations. I am a beginner and am thinking about buying a switch rod. So far I have only had one-handed rods. But for sea trout fishing the Spey technique is probably more effective. I am watching the video from Germany.

Dear Antti, I must admit it is one of the best videos explaining how to use a double-handed rod for beginners. I was able to replicate some of it after some practice but I still am confused what is the exact difference between roll cast, and switch cast? They both look somewhat similar to me. In Spey cast, we have some extra tricks ' snap T, etc ' which directly distinguish it from the roll cast, but I am still in a dilemma when it comes to Roll cast and Switch cast. It would be thoughtful of you to explain the difference between the two in a bit more detail. Anyways, thank you !! for your wonderful videos.

Really good Antti. There are a few wee points that I'd change. 1st point is the terminology you use. Let's take the Double Spey for an example, though the same terms can be applied to the Circle C, Z Spey or Snap T. Part 1. Lift, 2. Lay, 3. Sweep, 4. Delivery. The one word terms keeps it more memorable for the students.
For the Switch cast, or the Jump roll as I call it I say part 1 Lift, part 2 Sweep to kiss and part 3 Go. I like the kiss and go terms, this tends to stick well in students' heads. Lift sweep kiss go. For the Single Spey I use the same words.
I would swap out the Snap T and replace it with the Circle C. They are similar casts but my experience is the Circle C is less dangerous for beginners. In the Snap T you use that fast movement to lay the anchor, but with the Cricle C you can really take your time with it, and, as a result of i) the speed and ii) the distance between rod and fly during the lay they are less likely to hit the fly against the rod or themselves. I'm sure you've watched beginners bounce the yarn or (much worse) fly off the rod while trying to do the lay on the Snap T. Get them doing the Circle C and it just stops.
I learnt something for you that I'm going to adopt - biggest loop of running line under the pinky, smaller under the ring etc. I've been putting three strips under each finger for years. Thanks for that.

SUGGESTION: In USA the beginners usually start with a shorter heavier Skagit type line to help load the rod and give more feel- feedback to the caster....Great Video....cheers

UA-cam definitely need some videos on how to overhand cast two handed, all there is to find is spey, which is great if You have streaming water and swing the fly, but not so much if You for instance fish in the salt, where maximum distance and lots of stripping is the name of the game....;- )
    - While a lot can be transferred from one handed overhead casting, there IS some differences, I'll think, both in technique and in options/possibilities....?
Additionally, I would also love to have some tips on casting sinking line two handed overhand, I'm struggling a bit, to a point of me thinking that I should have bought a floating line.
    - However, I'm usually fishing off a pier, often in rather deep water (5-7 meter), so I do need to get down there....
