Let me know how you found my on pitch thing spurs need, I get that there may be more than 1 but give me the most important thing down below! Lets have a proper chat down below and discuss it together!
A Victor Wanyama type of player would be good. I also think that we could do with a Dele Ali type of player. A player who can pass a ball even when falling over and get in the box and score goals.
A dominant 6 would be good, but if im honest, when we go into this inept phase of the attack, we break down all together. The attack yesterday couldn’t get a pass together
Morning... hope you're well. Thought yesterday was the first time I've seen your positivity slip. Not for no reason! We miss Dembele for the same reason we miss Modric, King and Bale - they would be in the best Spurs XI of this century and replacing them is as easy as putting lightning in a bottle. But you are bang on with your assessment here, and focus on Wanyama, which I interpret as players that are happy to do a very specific job and have the discipline and professionalism to do only that to a high standard every time they are on the pitch. Wanyama is a good example of that just like Kante is for the jobs he did at Leicester and Chelsea. I couldn't tell you what role Bissouma or Bentancur are going to play each time they are on the pitch. They do everything they are asked to do quite well and both tend to perform better when the other is on the pitch. Maybe they are being asked to do something more specific but failing to execute, maybe they have a habit of drifting into just playing however they want, but sort of leads me to what I think is missing - a little bit of fear. Nobody wants something toxic, of course, but the clubs with that 'Mentality Monster' tag or the most successful teams have someone in the organisation that hold people to account and the players are afraid to slip below the required standard. I don't doubt for a second City's players see Pep like that. United's players saw Fergie that way and Keane embodied it on the pitch. Terry, Lampard and Drogba didn't stand for lowering of standards. I don't see any of that at Spurs at the moment - everything is just a bit too nice. Now... what comes with this kind of influence and a type of leadership is power. The unfortunate thing for us is, and I am not usually one to jump on this train, that there is one man at Tottenham that wants 100% of the power. Whatever biases and preferences that creates impacts recruitment at every level and an organisation that works against anyone that wants to take the bull by the horns. Whether you like their football or not, Conte and Mourinho are both people who want the power for themselves and were unable to get any. A long comment today... I wonder what you think?
It did dip, it would be too hard for it not to! I am still very much Ange in, and I feel like I will be the last to die on the hill! As much as I could have said any of the best players we've had over the years but I thought about the "glue players". Rodri is the guy who holds players accountable, there are countless videos of it! We do not have that! I get what you are saying about the power and I don't think you are wrong
This is just us though, this is Spurs, and if I'm honest, deep down, I knew this result before we even kicked off. Is it a club culture thing as the manager and players have changed over many seasons but it still keeps happening!! Wanyama was definitely an enforcer on the pitch and something we certainly don't have at the moment, he did all the unnoticed dirty work on the pitch.....now we have a bunch of over paid pre madonna's who keep apologising 🤦♂️
I know what you mean, we could have gone third and did that instead, handed Palace and Ipswich their first wins of the season. It makes me think of Conte's Southampton rant and what he said about " you can change the managers...many managers etc" People hated him for that but he spoke some home truths.
What conte said was right and I agreed with him. Although he bottled it when it came to talking to Levy. It was more for him to save face than for the club though.
I agree, a dominating midfielder is generally always a feature of title-contending teams. if that player also plays a heavy leadership role, then all the better. But I think there are even more pressing concerns than the "six" role. Ange's system clearly does not function without exceptional wide players. Son and Johnson are not prototypical "Ange wingers". They are both more like 'inside forwards', who excel in the counter-attack. Neither one of them are what you would consider "hug the touchline"-type wingers who can beat a player 1v1 (Son might have been that guy a few years ago but not anymore). Odobert and Werner are actually closer to what this system needs than Son and Johnson. Odobert has a been huge miss and that's gone under the radar in IMO. I also think the entire right side is not working from Porro all the way to Johnson. There are some new partnerships I would like to see, all across the pitch, to give the team some rotation and fresher look: 1. Dragusin paired with VdV in the CBs. 2. Bentancur paired with Bissuouma in the double-pivot with EITHER Maddsison or Kulusevski --it makes no sense to play Kulusevski as many minutes as we do. 3. Spence at RB with Odobert on the RW. Obviously this last one is dependent on Wilson's fitness and return , but I think some new partnerships in key areas will give us a lift. The team is getting a little stagnant IMO. I am not suggesting this as "drop" to certain players --there will be games for everyone, but I think we desperately need a new look in certain areas.
Oh I am only discussing about what we need on the pitch in one position, the issues outside of the pitch are big and alarming, but have been there years and decades, before ange.
We need that steele in MIdfield. A real General that can grab the game by the scruff of the neck in that number 6 position. What players are there that would fulfil this role
Good points. Romero needs a rest, he played all summer and went straight into the season. Maddison and Son haven't shown the leadership style that sometimes might be needed. Maybe Johnny Cardoso is that guy?
Ange reminds me of General Lee in the American civil war he won battle after battle when the Union forces attacked his strong defensive positions then came Gettysburg his forces got decimated once he tried to attack the enemy well AngeBall is fine until it comes up v the low block its totally ineffective :(

Main thing andy is that i am for ange ! i just dont think we are geared up for 3 games in 7 days and this is a thing ange has to cope with and so far is failing.
100% We have so many 8s and zero 6s. Look at Arsenal last year. They went in a run when they moved Rice forward, to an 8. He's not a 6. We need to loan out Bergvall and sign a proper #6
We haven’t seen the best of Destiny this season. Last year he was a stand out - causing problems for defenders. He’s been good this year - but just not the same as last year
Hi Andy ! it would be hard to replace dembele or wanyama but have to agree we need players like that if we are to succeed. Its why poch did so well at spurs and he was unlucky with wanyama injuries - had he stayed fit - him and mousa were top of the tree dm,s. So who would you drop if we were to find the same equivalents. ?
I wasn't even surprised by yesterday's result yes I predicted us to win but under Ange I have watched us decline. Like I have said many times I predicted 9th in the league and 7th would be a successful season for this squad and manager. There is no consistency. We have a manager that doesn't get the best out of the players. 10 losses out of the last 18 games Poch Jose Nuno were sacked for that kind of form. When Conte left the club we were 4th. So have we improved since Conte? We have wingers that can't cross a football. I actually think we could get more out of Solanke. Don't get me wrong I didn't Solanke was worth 65mil but I can see some quality with Solanke I feel he could score 15-20 to goals if he got the service. Also in the words of Eric Dier when he joined Bayern Munich talking about big Ange. Ange doesn't do tactics on the opposition we just work on how we want to play which I found unusual as under managers like Conte their was a lot of work on how the opposition like to set up. I can see Ange getting sacked soon if the form doesn't improve and there is no signs of that happening. But even if Ange gets sacked we still have the biggest problem at the club (Levy) so yeah in the future all I can see is a repetitive discussions on future managers not being back while Levy sucks the soul out of this club. On what you said Andy we had a midfielder that did that but Ange sold him in the summer (Hojberg). We need to be coached better at the back. Its so disorganised. I think switching to a back 5 would help. Actually play Porro and Udogie to their strengths. Play Dragusin as the central centre back because he isn't a left centre back and he isn't the best on the ball Davies could of play left centre back yesterday play Sarr and Bentancur as your 2 deep centre midfielders play Kulu or Maddison as your 10's Son Solanke upfront. Just an idea
Ange doesn't do tactics? Yikes okay then, 3 points off of 3rd still! Ange didn't sell Kane, Ange didnt reject Gallagher, Eze and others. Removing Ange for another manager (none on the market are better) makes 0 sense. Hojbjerg was not a leader, nor a dominant midfielder. I saw coward out of tackles more than going flying in, he was a player who talked a big game, but was not good enough for spurs. Also severly limited in our system as well. Wanyama was 10x the player and Vic was somewhat limited. On the lack of organisation, like I have said, Ange can't hold their hands out on the pitch, these players don't forget have been around multiple managers, they themselves must stay switched on.
@insidespurs7717 Don't shoot the messenger it was Eric Dier's words. Your very touchy over a poor manager that is failing. He is losing more games than he is winning. He is averaging the same amount of points as poch in his last 30 games at the club. 1.33 ponits a game at the moment. When Conte left he was averaging he was 1.73 points per game. I know it's a hard pill to swallow. Come on now this isn't working. I haven't even said Ange out. I have said I have lost faith in this working. Can you really see us finishing top 4? I don't and you know what Levy will do if top 4 isn't on. If the player the had a winning mentality they don't lose to Ipswich. This is the trouble with this fan base you state some facts and you get your knickers in a twist when someone critiques a manager that they like or the players that they like. You can't have a proper football discussions anymore.
Yes absolutely a killer 6 and CB need to be tougher. Maybe that new kid coming next year? What about that 6 we have option to buy. Is he like we have or more of a enforcer type
I think Romero has been someplace else all season maybe eyes on Real. Everybody has always said he’s some type of enforcer. He’s been just like the rest soft. hopefully we can address a bit in the fall but I doubt it more likely in the summer maybe the new kid center back or a six
So who are the present players ( a big reason) why we are lacking in production that you would replace with dembele or wanyama ? its a simple question andy .
Like I said I’m not singling anyone out, and regardless I basically did by saying they start over all of the midfield currently. So final answer, everyone
I asked the question yesterday about leadership and this is the key missing ingredient. Romero was the obvious choice however he is not consistent enough. Radu could be in 3 years with the right guidance. We need a Roy Keane type who could play but was also fiercely combative and was uncompromising about winning. We dont have one. Its about resolve and we have soft players who fold unfortunately. Give me a steely enforcer with talent who inspires. Just sayin..
If we had someone as good as dembele or as good as a ( fit injury free wanyama ) available right now - who would you play them instead of in the present team ?
I havent heard he cant sign any players due to wages ? I dont think thats right andy because we have cleared out some serious earners and only one senior player was signed this summer ( solanke ) the youngsters we signed wont be on anywhere near the money kane & co were on. I think in the main the club has backed its managers apart from that year when pochettino didnt sign anyone. Problem is when you get costly duds like n,dombele it takes its toll on future business. Apparently we are sniffing around grealish though at £300,000 per week ( his man city wages ) they can keep him - he,s 29 and has no sell on value and always injured. Also heard ange is looking for a left side cb ! thats his priority signing this january.
He wanted gallagher and Eze as was told they are asking for too much wages wise. The whole idea this summer was to reduce the wage bill for investment. The insiders have said so
Suppose it must be right if the insiders have said so ? LOL. I think it was the asking price for eze and the fact they had already sold olise that halted that move ! I dont think glasner would have been too pleased. Gallagher is chelsea through and through - never was going to happen. Doesnt surprise me if levy put investment into other area,s of the club than the first team - for him first team wages must be a horror story ? My life already !
We need somebody who can rally the team when their heads drop.. we have 3 captains but no leader, I feel it has to be Kulu but hes to respectful of the captains to speak up 🤔
Ok maybe put it another way ! Who is not good enough in the positions ( now ) that dembele and wanyama used to occupy in their time at spurs ? The thing is you say you back ange to the hilt but then raise a point that suggests you are not happy that we dont have those type of players anymore ? Poch knew the importance of defensive midfielders but ange seems oblivious to it ! As your title suggest ,s . ( The one thing missing on the pitch for spurs ) etc etc etc ! Conte signed bissouma & bents because as you yourself are well aware of the importance of a decent dfm. I have to agree i dont think they are up to it but thats down to ange to correct with his next lot of signings and hopefully they are not 18 years old or under.
Well we already have been told Ange has been told he cant have players due to wage cost, so I back him like I have previous managers as they have not been backed properly. I can back a manager, and still think the squad is not right because we are still in a rebuild. Being good enough and not being as good as Dem and Wan are 2 different questions. I like the players in midfield, but we can always improve.
We need a captain that will not accept mediocrity on the pitch. That captain needs to be in the midfield so he can give it to defenders and attackers when they're not performing. Also a captain that leads by example, especially when the going gets tough. Love Sonny to bits, but sadly he's not that guy.
Reality to find a ready made midfielder that is box to box and is physical will cost spurs 60m plus .. are they willing to spend as much? More likely they go for younger option as it makes good investment. If Jonny Cardusso is doing well in Spain then spurs will go n purchase him. Spurs need that pitbull midfielder - like a horjberg but playmaker
For me a central midfield leader is nissing big time. Was missing last year and even more evident this season. A Tim Sherwood type.Leadership is non existent in this side.Happy to get payed a fortune for doing nothing this lot.No ambition filtering down from the top.Levy out if you want change.
I’ve had enough of ange Get rid and bring in Roberto Mancini so he can come and kick our players arses and fix them up. Ange should change careers and become a pundit or go work for the media since they love him so much always praising him. Ange out today. Embarrassing we gave palace and Ipswich a win
Mancini who got sacked by the Saudi national team? Yikes no ta! Id rather stick to this rebuild for once. Ange holds some blame yes, but changing a manager hasn't worked for the longest of times

We need some of those players who think they are leaders, to be leaders. Romero and porro spring to mind
Yeah Vic may not have been the loudest but he allowed the others to do what they'd do!
There’s a few things, but a leader who can take control of the game is what we need. When things go against us, we crumble. We need someone who won’t

Cardoso? Looks talented but don't want to put that pressure on him from the off
I think Romero has been someplace else all season maybe eyes on Real.
Yes andy but if we were to find another dembele or even wanyama who would they take the place of in anges system ?
Rotational with others or do you mean us to sell one?
I asked the question yesterday about leadership and this is the key missing ingredient. Romero was the obvious choice however he is not consistent enough. Radu could be in 3 years with the right guidance. We need a Roy Keane type who could play but was also fiercely combative and was uncompromising about winning. We dont have one. Its about resolve and we have soft players who fold unfortunately. Give me a steely enforcer with talent who inspires. Just sayin..
That is why I was thinking big Victor! Even though vocally maybe wasn't he had a steel about him that we sorely miss
If we had someone as good as dembele or as good as a ( fit injury free wanyama ) available right now - who would you play them instead of in the present team ?
Im playing both and a creative player. That is how good those 2 were
I havent heard he cant sign any players due to wages ?
Supposedly the transfer values weren't an issue! Also one had a release clause so Glasner's feelings were near enough irrelevant
I understand that andy but who would you drop from the present team to accommodate dembele and wanyama ?
Mate, like i said they are starting ahead of all of the current crop, I wont single any of them out, because these 2 both start ahead of them all
We need somebody who can rally the team when their heads drop.. we have 3 captains but no leader, I feel it has to be Kulu but hes to respectful of the captains to speak up 🤔
If the guy wants to be a world best kinda player, then speak up and don't think about being too respectful!!
Agreed. Sonny can lead, but we need someone who is going to hold others accountable
Cardoso is a summer move. I just think we miss a dominant leader on the pitch
For me a central midfield leader is nissing big time. Was missing last year and even more evident this season. A Tim Sherwood type.Leadership is non existent in this side.Happy to get payed a fortune for doing nothing this lot.No ambition filtering down from the top.Levy out if you want change.
Starts from up top. I thought I would go for a player from the recent memory
God toughness
Need some steel!!
Spurs needs THERAPISTS and COACHES TO MAKE THEM PLAY FOR THE BADGE 🤦♂️ What's going on in my club
Pain that is what is going on
Ange is not good enough
Happily disagree, but let's play the game. With available managers out there, who is genuinely guaranteed to be better than Ange?
I’ve had enough of ange
Get rid and bring in Roberto Mancini so he can come and kick our players arses and fix them up.
