  • Every industry has its issues for workers- The funeral industry is no different. Many young people wish to go into the industry as a career. But the industry has some concerning mental health issues associated with it- Issues that the industry as a whole should be coming together to deal with, especially in light of the current pandemic. Burnout, compassion fatigue, marginalisation, relationship breakdown, trauma and addiction as all issues in this field, so in this video we look at why they are so prevalent in this particular industry.

It takes a special person to be able to work in this industry, unfortunately, they don’t get the acknowledgment they deserve.
They see the ugly side of death and work their arses off to make it more aesthetic to the general community.
I have nothing but the utmost respect for those that are in the industry for the right reasons.
Sam, great video as usual, very insightful and informative.

I discovered your channel ~24 hours ago and have binge watched it sense. Most of the discussion I'm already aware of due to my own background (and fucking life) but I absolutely appreciate the approach, honestly, and fact driven approach you have.
Also, many of us in the US really do comprehend how fucked our country is. I promise.

The funeral home industry has to be one of the most if not top psychologically and emotionally demanding careers.
Moreover people in this career most of them have it in their hearts to do the job and they're doing God's work by helping the grieving families to making sure the deceased loved one gets to their final resting place.
The thing that I see wrong with the industry is when funeral homes and cemeteries started going corporate I think funeral homes need to be owned and operated like small businesses by families and not by a corporation because family owned and operated or more personable and more sensitive to the individual's needs where with corporate and I say this very delicately all corporate cares about at the top end is numbers and money.
And there's no morals ethics or values when all you care about is the bottom line with numbers when it comes to a grieving family

My Dad's dream job was funeral directing. He lasted 6 months. Not because of the death, and everything that came with it. He burned out because he was treated like a slave and abused regularly by his boss who was a money hungry mongrel. Its rarely talked about as the owners are well known in communities and cover their tracks well.
