- John Wayne Parr is an Australian middleweight kickboxer and boxer, fighting out of Boonchu Gym in Gold Coast, Queensland. He is a 10-time World Champion in Muay Thai and runner up in The Contender Asia.
This guy's a fucking legend man. Doing things without managers and trainers and making it sound easy as fuck. All these ufc guys with massive egos would never do it and also whine about it. Unsung hero in the fighting world
Aman Mishra it's a disservice to combat sports that guys like JWD and Ramon dekkers are so unknown in the world of combat sports. The UFC has become the walmart of combat sports. It's killed all other prestigious tournaments built around other martial arts. It's a bit sad. RIP diamond. Live on and find great success JWD. You deserve it.
Aussie lads tend to always come across as likable. The guy could KMTFO in 5 seconds and still comes across like he's just stepped off a plane from Hawaii after a nice relaxing holiday.
Neil Richardson Nope; "knit me the flashiest overcoat" mate.
Marcello Capone hahaha funny stuff
Marcello Capone he is chilled as fuck
Full respect to this guy, any martial artist can see this guy is a beast! Thai boxing is no joke!
He just had his retirement fight. Defeated Anthony Mundine in boxing, 10 rounds.
daveyork0 & now he’s back! Just signed a contract with One Championship
@@morgankhan6904 is JWP going to fight again...
@@bbbnnuuuhgg7016 it's gonna be very hard to get a fighter like JWP to retire
@@Hugh_Morris like Anderson Silva in UFC these types of guys are built for it
@@bbbnnuuuhgg7016 exactly
JWP is a champ. Great humble guy! Deserves all the credit he gets.
John Wayne is so humble when he tells his stories. Beautiful human being.
john wayne parr is an out and out legend
As an Australian that grew up Thai Boxing in Rockhampton and looking up to Wayne Parr this made my week. My pregnat partner and I haven't had power for a week because our city was wiped out by a category 5 cyclone and to find this when I look on Powerfuljre made me so happy. Thank you, thank you so much.
Great stories in here, from Bas Rutten to Josh Barnett to GSP, Dekkers to Yodsanklai to Bawkaw - humble, open and genuine guy ... will be listening to #714 next!
I assume u already checked out the greatness of podcast #714.
He is world champ n he is still a regular guy. Amazing
Buakaw?
@@skytheknight3835yeah seems like that’s who he was talking about…
@@Just_For_Kixz cool you’re about 4 years too late bud no one cares
He will always be my favorite Aussie Athelete.
Best striker to ever come out of Australia right here, a true Aussie martial arts legend and top bloke.
The Well Spoken Bogan WATS with this striker bullshit why not muay Thai
Australia is home to some legit legends of striking, guys like Les Darcy, and The black prince Peter Jackson, JWP is certainly the best around today, he’s an absolute monster in the ring
and now im a John Wayne Parr fan!
Me too
Everyone should be a fan of “The Gunslinger”!!!
it's so sad that hardly anyone knows John Wayne Parr.... i remember watching him on Contender Asia season 1 ! He is so discipline in the sport of fighting. Glad that Joe Rogan have him on this podcast! Thank you guys!
That was a really good watch! Much Respect to John Wayne Parr for sharing his life experiences and living with total humility. What a Warrior!
JWP was a good guest, interesting dude . His documentary is worth the watch
Tom Graham agreed. I enjoyed his documentary quite a bit. Much respect. Great human being.
Joe, please get Forrest Griffin on the show! It would be 3 hours of entertaining madness!
please get Forrest Gump on the show!!!
Gabriel Cole You're a moron.
MetusBatman V4 your mother is sexy! Life is like a box of chocolate. I miss Bubba so much :(
Gabriel Cole As I said, you're a moron.
MetusBatman V4 you embody the true meaning of moron.......moron
John Wayne is a legendary striker.
jwp is a legend, what a hero in the muay thai world
How do you so consistently take up 3 hours of my day Mr Rogan. You're a bad man!
Had the honour to meet JWP once in Singapore. Such a humble and inspiring guy. All the best to you JWP, you deserve all the success!
Crazy thing is he is still seeking fights to this day…
JWP is one of the greatest sportsmen Australia has ever produced. He should get much more recognition than he does outside of the fight community.
Wow, I have mad respect for this dude. Can't believe he just moved out to Thailand to train while he had nothing. That takes some balls.
his humility is refreshing
Joe Rogan has serious boxing knowledge
He's well versed with the 90s and below Era of boxing but he often butchers the more recent millenium fights.bad.
Yea, love Joe but like the previous person said he knows more about 90s boxing than the overall boxing sport. None the less I love hearing him speak about it because it's the sport I have passion for
Pistol Pete He does, but apart from what the other two are saying, his knowledge is a bit nostalgic. So he's more of a fan than someone who really knows stuff (there's an overlap). F.e. when Russel Peters is on, you see the difference between a someone who is more into it than just a fan.
He does, but Ed O'Neil blew my mind with his theory of the boxers of waaayyyy back being better, because of how common it was.
Combat sports in general…
I totally understand the sleep paralysis part, I have suffered from it since I was 16, so almost 10 years. I have seen the 'ghost' or 'old hag' 2 or 3 times and it is terrifying! I find it very weird that so many people all over the world experience seeing the same thing.
yeh I've had sleep paralysis 3 times. First time was completely terrifying. thought I was gonna have a heart attack. its just from being really tired and your brain not wanting to shut down
George Barcenas Well it's actually unexplainable to be honest, but I think it's stress that causes it more than anything because I started getting it about 2 months after my mum died. And I would get it about 2-5 times a week for a long time, now I get it maybe once very couple of months, but I've learned how to lucid dream over the past few years and doing that helps prevent it, for me anyway..
Waking sleep paralysis is actually explainable. It is a hiccup in the brain during the transition from sleep to wakefulness, of course sleep paralysis in and of itself is there solely to prevent us from acting out our dreams. There are many ways to 'break free' from sleep paralysis, the most effective one I find is disrupting your breathing pattern ie. hold breath for 2 seconds, breath, hold breath for 4, breath etc. or some variation of that usually does the trick.
What you see though, that all comes down to mentality. If you're scared, more often than not you will project scary things. If you're calm and relaxed, (at least for me) you don't see or hear anything but a soft buzz (sometimes you even see pleasant things, but rare), you're just unable to move/talk unless you use one of the 'break free' methods and you're lucky enough that it works. You make a good point at the end, sleep paralysis is a super beneficial tool to transitioning into lucid dreams, I feel bad for people with SP who don't embrace it and use it as a tool for something much more awesome, they're missing out...
***** how does one lucid dream? ive tried but dont think it works :(
LogicalThinker7991 Well yeah that's true what you said about it being a 'hiccup' during the transition from sleep to wakefulness, but I don't think anyone has actually explained how it happens? And I would breath very heavily and aggressively while trying to wiggle my toes to break free, sometimes it would work and others it wouldn't.
clemyobon as LogicalThinker7991 said, sufferers from sleep paralysis tend to have an easier time lucid dreaming & astral projecting, but it's still possible to do. Everyone really has their own techniques to do it. The first time I became lucid was by accident believe it or not, and it took me maybe about 6 or 7 hard attempts to become lucid again, but I wasn't trying to do it like every night, just occasionally. I become lucid quite frequently now & it's a lot of fun :)
The Bas Rutten and the newspaper story were crazy- it's obscene that such a decorated champion like JWP is hardly known. Great guy and really refreshing to listen to such a humble dude.
JWP is great ambassador of muay thai. He was always very humble even though he true warrior and his story is very inspiring. Maybe Thai boxing is not best way how to make tons of money but following your dreams is what really counts..
I like how this guy's always got a smile on his face. LOL
#PowerfulJohnWayneParr
Jwp a true Legend
Stan the man made Alexio's leg a spaghetti noodle
"Punching and punching and punching.......and punching. Hahaha." Love it!
John Wayne parr understands Thai culture and you need to understand the relationship between Kru or (Guru =same word ) and John show his humble and sensitive to the traditional culture. Fo Buddhist 5 precept, drinking is normal for Thai culture. I used to drink everydays,... you know, weather is too nice!
JWP should be a guest once a month. his stories are on point.
A warrior and a very down to earth humble guy!
John looks like a mix between Nate Diaz and Mirko Cro Cop lol but anyways, awesome podcast!
Humble brag.. My friend John!! We live not 5mins from each other and I often hang with him and Angie and visit Boonchu gym to hit bags. GOLDCOAST QLD WASSUP!!
Ps; I cant stand cricket, or AFL. Id rather watch or play chess.
DirtMcGirt BBJ Insecure morons never change...moron.
moron
DirtMcGirt BBJ Troll is a meaningless word used by morons to protect their fragile ego. You're insecure, and a moron.
MetusBatman V4
Haha, look people! It's the 'moron' guy, aka MetusBatman V4
Mike Zambidis got me into kickboxing which made me appreciate other fighters. wish there was more attention to this like boxing
JWP brings up an interesting ghost story so Joe just goes off on a mad tangent about how people who see ghosts are charlatans or ignorant people, there's no need to shove your agenda down peoples throats if they bring up an interesting experience.
+Zombehnation1001 dude im watching this right now Joe's attitude is fucking pissing me off
his shit-eating grin at 1:19:37 mocking JWP before he has even began the story... thankyou for all the entertainment - but in that moment... fuck you Rogan
I used to love the podcasts for that esoteric interesting stuff, but with Joe feeling the need to cram his scepticism down the listeners throats at every turn its hard to enjoy.
Ghost stories aren't interesting. It's the same with people telling you their dreams.
Everyone complaining about the guest is dumb as hell. The ghost stories alone... That shit was podcast gold people. Joe's face had me cracking up. Great guest
Absolutely amazing podcast period
This dude sounds like a really chill ass dude... Really down to earth guy. I hope he does get the fame he's looking for.
I can't believe after all that he's done JWP at 9:50 says he's afraid that someone might look at him like a pussy. Man, any one who has ever trained or fought would never look at your life and history and think that. Keep crushing JWP.
What a badass dude. Wish he started learning some defensive jiu jitsu as I'd love to see this guy fight in the octagon. If mark hunt can do it, I'm sure he'd have a chance too. Just get that chuck liddell style takedown defense.
John wayne parr's got a new fan
I used to get sleep paralysis and it felt like an entity was hovering over me. I understand it's simply a hallucination of some sort but it's definitely the most terrifying feeling I've ever felt.
+shem yhaza What the fuck is your problem? He said something very true, 'sleep paralysis'. And you just proved your ignorance and stupidity with that comment.
+shem yhaza :( why would you ever wish paralysis to someone ? I wouldnt wish it to my worst enemy...
man full respek to JWP! hes always been so damn humble & friendly. true champ.
thanx joe!
wayne is probably one of the most genuine friendly people i have meet and had a conversation with really nice
What a cool guy! This turned out to be one of my favourite JRE Podcasts.
This guy is an unreal stand up fighter, easily 1 of the best ever.
Awesome humble John Wayne Parr.. if he had been in US he would have been big!
phish1391 he did stay here for a very short time. Met his wife and had a fight. He Ko'd Baxter Humby.
This is absolutely one of the best gifts from Joe Rogan. I love you JRE Experience Team and John Wayne for his precious time !!!
How disrespectful is Joe? Scoffing at peoples beliefs like this. Damn, you don't have to agree Joe but you don't have to ridicule.
exactly. but if he spoke about the same experience on DMT joe would be delighted
he is human after all, we all scoff at other people beliefs if we think they are "wrong" because we think we are "right", in the end we all have our own opinions and ideals ,
If JWP slipped DMT into that part of the convo for no reason like Jlo on HIMYM
Most respectful comments ever on UA-cam .... everyone gets a free beer
ive been waiting for this podcast for a very long time
One of the most enjoyable podcasts yet... Never really did my research on this guy but his stories are definitely entertaining. Very cool.
I knew jwp when there was contender Asia (reality show abt thai boxing) broadcasted in axn. He was 1runner up. Ever since i have followed this legend.
JWP is a LEGEND.
my favourite interview on JRE, what a legend John Wayne Par
This guy was so interesting, great podcast.
John Wayne was an awesome guest. Great to see a guy be so humble and you can feel how passionate he is.
jesus, joe, back off. the thais believe in ghosts, so the dude believes in ghost, what do you want.
As a Thai, it's funny how he try to disregard and rationalize though.
@@sebbensebbenandsebben691 i vouch for the spiritual depth of thailand, when i was there in province especially i experienced a ton of odd things. and i am typically one to not even give those types of things a bit of mind.
He wants people to think rationally.
Exactly, this is the same guy who thinks you can experience different dimensions of the universe by doing psychedelics!! Double standards!!
i hate fighting but this dude has been self trained to this day. I'm officially a fan now.
9enius wouldn’t say self trained, he had great Thai trainers as a young man.
Joe you have no idea how big Cricket is in Australia, UK, India etc.
England, not the UK. just want to get that straight.
That's true, my bad.
livibam I fuckin' hate cricket lol I think I speak for the majority of Scotland when I say that too.
He also probably has no idea the full extent of the LAMENESS of cricket either
Because Scotland suck at it, Jamie.
Can John Wayne come back to this show ASAP!! This guy is a legend!!
great podcast, great guy
John Wayne Parr, you are and always will be my hero.
Immediately starts watching JWP doco...
This is purity in humble communication by parr!! Love watching u whoop ass mr john
I'm high as a Georgia pine and this is so captivating.
9 years im having the same experience
Man John Wayne Parr is awesome. He is a such a badass, fought the best in the world; but he's so humble, so respectful of his roots, and he appreciates the different martial arts. He's a true martial artist, he had great stories too. That Muay Thai betting and mafia stuff was crazy.
Waynes awesome. What a class act.
John Wayne Parr.... what a humble, nice guy! even with the woo woo!
One of my favourite sports personalities ever, regardless of discipline. For those that wants to learn more about John Wayne Parr, I would highly recommend the documentary blessed with venom about his life. He just made it available for free on youtube. Watch and enjoy :)
Josh Barnett CONVINCED he was Bangkok ready lol
John Wayne Parr is such a legend, and he will for sure be remembered og looked up to!
You can just see how he lights up when he talks about his fights and his experiences with fighting in general. A true legend and a gentleman of the fighting world!
Love JW! Been waiting for the Gunslinger to get on here for a while, cool humble guy whose accomplished so much. Great podcast
What a fucking great guy.
Awesome interview. Such an awesome humble guy. I'm now a John Wayne Parr fan!!!
really enjoyed this. thanks joe & wayne.
JWP is by far the greatest striking phenomena in all of muay thai. legendary. another
10 years and hell be a god
Awesome! Anyone who speaks so passionately on Dekkers gets my immediate respect. Amazing life story, that 100000 people crowd part made my hunger for glory rumble. Must admit not having see JWPs fights, will check out the docu asap and move my discovery of the man from there.
I like the comparison to Crocops manerisms someone in the comments made. Theres a bit of that.
I love how smiley and hunble John is hes a class act! Hard to believe he could mess your day up with a single strike.
4:00-6:15 Joe wants nothing to do with the great point John Wayne Parr is making explaining that Glory and kickboxing in general have no real superstars known to guys at the local bar type thing. I mean GSP, Anderson Silva are some pretty big names. He's saying they promote the fights better and let you get to know them with the previews and hype up videos of the fight. He thinks kickboxing needs more of that. Joe just wants to keep talking about a complete difference subject and blows him off with fake "uh yeaahs".
JWP you're our greatest fighter and a national icon what a legend
you're the man JWP
He’s as gangster as they come ..
much respect for John Wayne parr
For somebody so open minded I wish Joe would listen and consider things inside his head instead of giggling, interjecting and trying to ridicule all that ghost stuff. It's a heavy influence in the Thai culture, do you wanna hear about it or not? Fuck, Joe.
Someone doesn't know Joe very well
Nice that they remembered Ramon Dekkers. A true legend in combat sports. Maybe top 10 pound for pound best EVER stand up fighters in history. not maybe.... definitely.
JWP is such a nice chap!
What a lovely guy JWP is. Despite all he's achieved, he still remains so humble, honest and respectful. Great bloke.
Joe, you say the stalling in MMA is not done by the elite.....Johnny Hendricks did nothing except hold Lawler against the fence last fight. This was the definition of the stalling / holding you spoke about.
dude ur spot on wit that. So glad they didn't give him the W for that too. Plus Lawler was goin for it and did more damage
bryan bosher Agree! I am also super happy that rory gets his shot now rather than a rubber match.
Brad Pearson +1
well lawler and him is also a rematch bt ya I hear what ur saying. Should b a good fight
Huge Rory fan here! Expecting a different result this time.
Congrats wayne!!! I know you was happy hanging out with Joe. I hope he can promote CMT here in the states
My first experience of Parr. He is such a humble stud. Rogan is a douche.
Fighters are the most humble people on this planet. JWP and Joe Schilling are great recent examples of that. And they make a great podcast guest! #JRE4LYF
Very interesting... not just fighter but person. Checked out his documentary based on this interview. Must say it was worth the time. It's called John Wayne Parr Blessed with Venom. You can find it right here on youtube. He's a true badass in many aspects.
Awesome. Been waiting for this podcast with JWP for a long time.
John... my man.... P.L.E.A.S.E!!! You are already far more "warrior" than all the mma/ufc clowns together...
Most Muay Thai fighters are.....
I love how humble JWP is.
"Who the fuck do you think you are, John Fucking Wayne", "Well... yes actually"
