It's actually sad really. Dude wasn't an allstar by any means but he was a decent player....and he'll always be remembered for that boneheaded mistake. Oh well...he still lived a rich life and worked in his dream job.
Carroll was haunted by 4th and 2 in the 2006 Rose Bowl. He didn't want that to happen again, so he tried to make sure that was not going to be a possibility, unfortunately Malcolm Butler brought the nightmare back for Carroll.
I never understood why people consider it a bad play. For the time, it wasn't a bad call, and the odds are much, much, much greater the Seahawks score than turn it over. I guess Seattle fans cannot accept the Patriots player made a great play.
According to the punter, that play was never supposed to get snapped if the right thing doesn't happen. I think they are trying to fake a substitution and get the opponents to have 12+ on the field. This didn't happen so they were supposed to just take delay of game and punt but the guy that ends up as the center was a sub for a guy that got injured earlier in the game and had never practiced that play. Oops.
They ran it because Pete Carrol loves good-christian-boy Wilson and he wanted him to have the game winning TD over Marshawn who gives 1 word answers in press conferences. Thats legitimately why. Beastmode had enough of Pete and that squad after that.
People are still crying over this geez move Tf on already shit happens it was a great game down to the wire teams make mistakes my pats did their part not their fault Pete made Wilson throw it he should have known better
We actually used that play in pop warner 20 plus yrs ago. There's supposed to be a couple of receivers on the other side (hell) and the quarterback is supposed bro be in shotgun. The other side is called heaven. There are multiple options for the quarterback. The play causes confusion. Granted I know these are pros but it did work in popwarner and I've seen it work in college
Since it was 4th down, the play was designed to make it look like as if the field-goal team was getting off the field in order to catch the defense offsides.
Let’s be honest here guys Vince Wilfork had nothing to do with the Mark Sanchez Butt Fumble. Mark Sanchez ran directly up his own lineman’s Ass and Vince wilfork wasn’t moving the lineman at all. Mark Sanchez will forever be remembered for this.
The whole time watching that live I thought “wow we might win another Super Bowl!” I thought Marshawn would take it and then he would go all beast mode on them Patriots, and then it happened. The pass of the century. The pass that changed the sea hawks for the worse. The pass that will haunt us forever. And we never played good enough since.

It was only second down and a TD makes it a 3 point game with time on the clock and 2 NE time outs, and lord knows Brady doesnt need a lot of time to drive down field. Pete wanted to kill more time before he had Lynch punch it in. People say that the playcall was at fault but really the fault should lie on Wilson for forcing that throw and on the receiver for making no play on that ball whatsoever. Dude pretty much sat back and watched Butler grab that ball.
ChainsGone2012 Wilson drops back, holds onto the ball, and ends up throwing it away out the back of the end zone. Easy way to kill 4-6 seconds which can can give Brady one less play in the long run. The call made sense, Wilson just fucking blew it, he probably wanted the game-winner and forced an iffy pass.
I absolutely love the punters reaction after knocking his appointment to the ground. Absolutely hilarious 🤣 and not to mention after the punt, playing possum
Rumor has it they wanted Russel Wilson to throw the game winning touchdown pass so he (or the catcher) would look good for the press. Oh how pride ruins all.
Allen Long Its because they wanted 3 chances to get into the end zone instead of 2. There was 20 seconds left and they had 1 timeout. If they ran it once and didn't get in, they would use their timeout. Then when they ran it again the clock would run out and they would lose. But if you pass and it's incomplete then the clock stops, and you still have 2 opportunities afterwards. If Malcolm Butler never picked off that ball, people would either forget about Pete Carroll's call or call it smart clock management.
No one ever realizes that they weren’t ever supposed to hike the ball. It was a trick formation to try and get the defense to jump offsides. The guy who was supposed to snap was out injured, so Whalen had to snap. He had never practiced this formation and didn’t know he WASNT supposed to snap the damn ball. I’m a colts fan and I’ll still admit I shit a brick when I saw this live
Ryan S it doesn't matter whether they were supposed to hike the ball or not. They lined up 2 yards off the line of scrimmage. It was a trick play that only duped their own team, and did so twice over. Easily one of the worst trick plays in nfl history. Then again, colts just threw another game with an almost equally boneheaded decision in OT last week to Houston. I don't care what Reich says and whether or not the players were behind him on it, that was a horrible call. If he was serious about going for the win he would have taken the timeout after the previous play, preserved some 40+ seconds on the clock to attempt a game-winning drive. Even if Colts had converted that fourth down the odds of winning with 24 seconds left, 1 timeout (after burning one trying to draw Texans offsides) from their own 47 was low. Such a half-assed attempt.

6:16 cracks me up so hard hearing him say "whattttt theeee heccck" -- wish I knew what they were doing here maybe a fast screen to the back of that group lined up right.
VlogerBros dude there are 32 NFL teams and THREE of these messed up plays were Seahawks -- it might as well be half. Plus their passing on that play counts for like 8. What the heck were they thinking
Uhh Two of those were seahawks.... one was the pass tho other was a missed field goal by both teams... (all game long btw) the other was a late hit by the rams punter.
@Jake Shattuck no it was to get NE to make a last second substitute to get them with too many players on the field but it never happened but the center wasn't supposed to snap the ball they were supposed to take the delay of game.
Brennen Samuelsen Right on man. I agree. Some are calling it "the worst call in NFL history", a title Pete Carroll should not be named for. Football is a cat & mouse game. It's about probabilities. Exposing weaknesses. Momentum. Fight. Desire. Faith. Teamwork. Sportsmanship. Petey C had his reasons for throwing the damn ball 🏈 Personally, I think Marshawn was not at the top of 'Hawk mngmnt priorities to "Pound the Rock" across the goalline to win the 'Bowl.
The Seattle debacle was worst then the guy running out of bounds and the guy running in the wrong direction. Why you may ask? Well that was the super bowl. Even my grandmother who was watching the game said, momma here comes that man again.
They were second and goal and sure he could have fumbled ,but there was a greater margin of error for a passing play because wilson could of fumbled as well.
It's not about fumbling, it's about the clock. Carroll had 2nd and goal, 1 timeout and 20 seconds left. If it were the incomplete pass, the clock would stop and he could run the ball twice. Carroll's options were: 1) 2nd down - pass, 3rd down - rush, timeout, 4th down - rush 2) 2nd down - rush, timeout, 3rd down - pass, 4th down - rush 3) 2nd down - rush, timeout, 3rd down - rush, time expired. Actually, I think he picked up the best clock-management in that situation and it's definitely not his fault
Seattle vs. New England, as soon as they snapped the ball I started saying, "You are not going to throw the ball?" truly one of the most idiotic play calls in the history of the game.
What baffles me is that the Seahawks signed Walsh *after* his missed kick for the Vikings in a *playoff game* against them, advancing them into the divisional round.
LegenDarius Pat McAfee, the punter on that play, did actually explain what happened there. The idea was to trick the Patriots into thinking the Colts were quickly switching their special teams unit out and bringing back in their offense to go for it. This would hopefully cause the Patriots to do the same with their defense. During the commotion, the Colts would reset their line on the right side of the field and snap the ball, drawing a “Too many men on the field” penalty, resulting in a first down. If it didn’t cause the Pats to make the switch, they’d just take the “Delay of game” penalty and punt it away. A low risk play, but a few things went wrong and turned it into on of the ugliest plays ever. Firstly, the guy who was supposed to snap the ball had been injured earlier in the game. The guy replacing him, Griff Whalen, has never practiced this play. He has, however, read the playbook. The playbook specifically states that if Colt Anderson, the guy playing the role of the quarterback, gets under center they are going to snap the ball. This shouldn’t be an issue. Since the Pats didn’t bite on the fake out, the Colts will just let the game clock expire and take the penalty. Unfortunately, the Colts head coach told Anderson that if the Pats don’t bite, maybe try a hard count to get them to jump offsides, since the prospect of a ball carrier with no blockers is a pretty tempting target. No one bothered to clue Whalen in, and since he’d only ever read the playbook, he did exactly as it requested. When Anderson got behind him and called “Hut,” he snapped the ball. To top it all off, when the line reset near the sideline, the entire line was going to line up based off the position of one of the lineman. That one lineman was out of position and off the line of scrimmage, resulting in the now legendary call of “The whole right side of the line was not on the line of scrimmage.” tl;dr: a bunch of small miscues and miscommunications turned a low risk trick play into one of the worst plays in the history of professional sports.

I love that Colts play. You can tell that he wasn't expecting the snap
Super Bowl - worst play call ever.
And yet I seen it about 500 times.depressing
As a Seattle fan, it still makes me cringe.
.
hstewar as a Patriots fan, it still makes me laugh
Rigged? Give me a fucking break. Not a Patriots fan whatsoever, either.

A screw up list would not be complete without the Wilson throw play or the butt fumble am I right
Jimmy Graham Nothing about his comment was racist.
Raider RickGaming
That pass was a total WTF moment in the sports bar.
Simarjit Sidhu
He’s trolling bro.
Raider RickGaming nope. you’re a raiders fan. 2-3 and lost 16-10 to my broncos so
The Jim Marshall play, its epic.
It’s funny how half of these are with the Seahawks
Matt Vlogs 3/10 of them thats definitely not 50 percent
VlogerBros ok mr. exact
Courtney S shut up already
Anyone else notice the butt fumble, the Seahawks throw and the colts play all happened against the pats. THE STUPID GATE has started
Stinky Socks The Patriots put drugs on the Gatorade so the other team gets stupid (it's just a joke, don't be salty Pats fans)
Lol
Steel Cat I'm a pats fan and I'm not salty
Stinky Socks I was just thinking h that too. It’s so odd that all these dumb plays happen in favor of the Pats.
Almicheals reaction to the kickers missing in OT in Cardinals Seawaks was priceless

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@Jake Shattuck no it was to get NE to make a last second substitute to get them with too many players on the field but it never happened but the center wasn't supposed to snap the ball they were supposed to take the delay of game.
Sherman's reaction to Butler's interception: priceless
That Colts play will forever be hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Kyle Fronheiser But seriously it must mean that stupid plays happen more often on Sunday Night games. Lol.
1:39 damn that play had tom Brady jumping out of his seat and Richard Sherman going what
0:50 they had absolutely no reason not to run the ball.
Gamer but that's what they'd expect em to do ;)
best nutshots funny Videos It was second down. They had a time out too doesn’t matter if they got blitzed or not
@0:47 you'll see BB had a goalline /run defense called. Pass was the right call.
Gamer yeah there was, the defense was expecting a run, the pass would have worked 9 out of 10 times
Brennen Samuelsen
Right on man. I agree.
Some are calling it "the worst call in NFL history", a title Pete Carroll should not be named for.
Football is a cat & mouse game. It's about probabilities. Exposing weaknesses. Momentum. Fight. Desire. Faith. Teamwork. Sportsmanship.
Petey C had his reasons for throwing the damn ball 🏈
Personally, I think Marshawn was not at the top of 'Hawk mngmnt priorities to "Pound the Rock" across the goalline to win the 'Bowl.
Aww. That's the Matthew Stafford I remember BWAHAHAHA
Richard Sherman's reaction hurts man.. lol. Still cannot believe that play. Felt like someone stuck a dagger through my heart.

The Butler Did It. (As for why they didn't give it to Lynch, turns out he's actually pretty shitty in the red zone.)

Something crazy happens in a game
Al Michaels: THATS IMPOSSIBLE
1:51 I had DeSean Jackson on my fantasy team that year. Lost that game by 2 points. Still haven't forgotten.
The Seattle debacle was worst then the guy running out of bounds and the guy running in the wrong direction. Why you may ask? Well that was the super bowl. Even my grandmother who was watching the game said, momma here comes that man again.
Tilden Corbett That's Belichick for ya. He gets in your coach's head.
Carroll's options were:
1) 2nd down - pass, 3rd down - rush, timeout, 4th down - rush 2) 2nd down - rush, timeout, 3rd down - pass, 4th down - rush 3) 2nd down - rush, timeout, 3rd down - rush, time expired.
Actually, I think he picked up the best clock-management in that situation and it's definitely not his fault
Marshawn Lynch was a beast. You give the ball to the beast 1 or 2 yards to go and you throw it on 2nd down? Carroll should have been FIRED!
Bobby Bobby.... Did you just say that the quarterback was responsible for the route being run lpl
Ron Pitts' call of the Dan Orlovsky play cracks me up to this day - he sounds so sympathetic towards the young QB.
Jim Marshall running the wrong way is a NFL classic.
The best cmon man moments
Jim Marshall 100% deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.
100 percent. He never lived that down.

nothing funnier to me than Al Michaels on commentary when these bone headed mistakes happen. I love his "what are you doing/thinking!" voice lmao 0:46
Seattle vs. New England, as soon as they snapped the ball I started saying, "You are not going to throw the ball?" truly one of the most idiotic play calls in the history of the game.
The last one reminded me of The Waterboy LMAO😂😂😂
lakernatic88 omg lmao 🤣
The last one was so dumb
Rashawn Frazier he's going, he's going he's going and he's gone!
It's a shame because he was an incredible player, but that one moment has defined his career
Legend has it that play ruined his otherwise obvious Hall of Fame candidacy. It’s an absolute travesty that he hasn’t gotten into Canton yet.
That Superbowl pass by the Seahawks might be the dumbest big play decision of all time
Just a reminder none of these clips are mine, they belong to their rightful owners. I'm just using them for entertainment purposes.
When ya see the cardinals miss and then the Seahawks do they say what do you call that it is called a Walsh they walshed up
Nah. That's called a Norwood. Walsh did a Norwood.
They tied in this game
What baffles me is that the Seahawks signed Walsh *after* his missed kick for the Vikings in a *playoff game* against them, advancing them into the divisional round.
i'm cardinals fan , why'd you play that missed field goal man , i didn't wanna cry right now
Xaiver Slay-dy Yea we have the worst franchise in the league statistically. FUCK!
LoL
Cuz y’all ass
well the panthers are ass they fucking choked in super bowl 50
Xaiver Slay-dy im SEAHAWKS lol
Sure super bowl one was bad but the colts had everyone asking WTF before the ball was even snapped haha
Yeah, I just don't know wtf they were thinking was gonna happen there.
That one lineman was out of position and off the line of scrimmage, resulting in the now legendary call of “The whole right side of the line was not on the line of scrimmage.”
tl;dr: a bunch of small miscues and miscommunications turned a low risk trick play into one of the worst plays in the history of professional sports.
