  • Our first Day weaning. This was before Christmas, Niamh was here to help and it was great to have the extra hand.
Our lambs were a little smaller this year as our spring was nothing amazing and we also did not use any drench capsules which can give the ewes and lambs a bit of a boost at lambing.
I hope you enjoy the video.

Hi, greetings from Oxford, England, and I wish you all a happy New Year. Love the content, and the scenery is pretty amazing. Hope in 2024 prices for lamb and wool increase, it's still pretty rare to see NZ lamb in supermarkets here, but wollen garments are definitely on the increase.

Thanks, Happy New Year to you too! Oh yes I did see an English UA-camr who wasn’t able to find English Lamb in the supermarkets which made me laugh. Well that’s good that our wool has made it that far. We need the wealthy to actually care about the environment and then we might find wool more widely used.

I enjoy your conversations and watching you working your pack of hounds ..I'm Interested how you train your dogs .( Ropes Halters etc )

I’m not as into it as some Hamish, I have used a rope a bit for that young hunterway of mine, but I basically get them balancing off the sheep until they’re happy with that, then steer them with your position and give a side then get yourself off balance and make sure they go the right way when you give them the side so I do that for one training / day then do the other side the next day then try both sides the day after so it just takes three days to put sides on a dog. That’s after it’s comfortable balancing and stopping the rest is practice and natural ability.
Most of what I’ve learnt is off neighbours and our previous stockmanager. Hope that answers your question, I might do a video at some stage my dogs do need a bit of time in the training pen! 👍

@@HillCountryFarmer Yes very detailed explanation. I was like you in some aspects when I first started farming forty years ago. I would like to see you inaction with your training..

@@hamishdalby9692 I’ll see if I can do one this month! It’s an amazing career when you think about it isn’t it. 40 years of “the same thing” but really every year is different and you’re always improving. Looking forward to my next 35 😊.

Shame the price we pay for lamb at the supermarket/ butcher’s isn’t reflected in the price that the producers receive. Well at least that is the case here in Australia

Well I did see them selling a leg of lamb for no more than $30 in our supermarket the other day so I thought the mark up wasn’t too bad, at least currently. Looking forward to seeing better payouts though that’s for sure!

Camera needs to be at arm length away from your face. Watch other UA-camrs.

Thanks Ronald, I don’t use a Go Pro so that could be different too. I’ll work on it
