    The producer of Milli Vanilli, Frank Farian, actually stole "Girl You Know It's True" from a group called Numarx- young guys from Baltimore, Maryland that included Kevin Liles (a songwriter and singer on the song) who is now a major music executive and co-founder of 300 Entertainment. In an interview on the Breakfast Club, Liles explained how he fought to get their rights on the Milli Vanilli version. In a different interview, Liles said he was inspired by LL Cool J's "I Need Love"

      You know your stuff, Kevin is from Woodlawn md and Woodlawn high named their stadium after him, he also signed creek boyz and Tate kobang out of Baltimore to 300 ent to little success but respect to him for going back to the town and giving folks a chance

      @talentbender 9 місяців тому +1

      @@GucciP777 That's great to hear. Yeah, sometimes we hear these music executives talking and we wonder if they really for the artists like they say they are, but after seeing quite a few interviews with Liles, then later finding out that someone straight up took his song and how hard he had to fight to get his ownership, it just lets me know that he does understand what artists go through. Now I can see why they named a street after him in Baltimore.

    Milli Vanilli wasn't the first ones to do stuff like this. They use to do stuff like that all the time based on what the original artist looked like. Example, look at the C&C Music factory and Marsha Walsh.

      @@leebutz4727 That was just an example of how the idea isn't new. Martha Walsh had many songs where they removed her from the album cover because she wasn't some little skinny girl in a miniskirt. If you want an example prior to 88 look at the 50s and 60s when they would put white people on the album cover to trick people into buying the album. When these artists would go on tour people would be confused because the cover had a white person but a black person was performing.They did it to Dion Warwick and Miles Davis just to name a couple examples.

      The dude is in his 80s...smh...
      Seems he did "mix and match" with Boney M....
      He definitely ate off of black art ...
      " He recruited a line-up which included vocalists Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett along with a male, Bobby Farrell, and female dancer, Maizie Williams, and his own additional vocals. Under the name Boney M, he achieved his biggest success in Europe as well as across the whole world with well-known songs, like "Daddy Cool", "Rivers of Babylon", "Rasputin" and a remake of "Mary's Boy Child".

    It's sad because both of them were super talented. They didn't need to do the lip syncing. Ruined their careers.

      You do know it wasnt their voices on the record full stop? They didnt get killed cos they were lip synching they got killed cos it wasnt them. In the day and age of Whitney Houston, George Michael, Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury, this was seen as a scam to the pop listeners of the day.

      @@cnsmooth I know that but what I'm saying is they could have learned how to sing and they would of been star's. They were both very talented and they didn't have to cheat.

    @7:50 ish doesn't realize that Artist development no longer exist within record labels. Music industry today is a money game. Dj Akademics did a good breakdown about how record labelsss are signing artists for these one off single deals for $2500 and the flip on that for the record label is like $50K-$60K

    I hate when old dudes talk like this, they always try to romanticize the past in order to condemn the present. Some of our favorite songs are basically just cookie cutter versions of other songs. For some reason we got this notion that artists from the 70s and 80s were just so pure and real when that’s not the case at all. The music business is a capitalistic industry and has always been that way. Ain’t no morals in capitalism, bring the hits or you out. It ain’t no more prevalent today than it was 50 years ago.
