My great aunt Joan used to take me to this place we called "The Trick Store" as kids. It was like a Halloween tradition. It had an old musky oder but that was apart of the personality of the place. It was spooky and charming. Many years later I visited the store as an 18 year old and nothing changed. I talked with Edward 'Doc' for a long time. So long I feel like we're still talking. He had the coolest array of vintage creepy masks on the walls and told me he was the number one place for masks in Philadelphia. I'm very sorry the store in not there anymore and truly sorry to hear about his passing. Rest In Peace Edward.
I grew up on Paul st. around the corner from the store. He use to sell Inner tubes for bikes. I'll never forget the smell that store had. I'm sorry to hear the man passed away! He did live a lenthy life though.
My aunt use to baby sit me and take me there as a kid, It was at Frankford and Church st. It smelled horrible inside but always had the craziest stuff.
I finally found the only other magic shop other than the one down south street. Irv passed away and now I find out frankford magic is gone also..sorry to hear that .there is one magic shop in philly TRICKZONE even online shopping

I went there as a kid too, and we also called it the Trick store.
I was in there a few years before he closed. It still had that odor. Brought back memories.

Same here.
It was the smell of decomposing children
It did have the funkiest smell. Almost like almonds mixed in with that rubber from the old fasioned masks.
I spent hours rapping with that guy back in the mid 80s.
