What's going on Initiate, Bird here and in this video we are going over one of the most interesting bosses in Elden Ring, we have Godfrey, First Elden Lord.
Godfrey is regarded as the first Elden Lord of the Golden Order, and the former consort of Queen Marika the Eternal. Godfrey was once a ferocious warrior, but when he vowed to become a lord he took upon his back the lion Serosh, the Lord of Beasts, to suppress his ceaseless lust for battle.
On Marika's orders, Godfrey led the War Against the Giants, putting the Giants to the sword and confining their flame upon the Mountaintops of the Giants. This war marked the birth of the Erdtree, an epoch which would be ruled over by Queen Marika and her Elden Lord.
The Elden Ring lore is rich so I hope find this interesting and learn something new about the Elden Ring world! AD Victoriam🖤

I am curious about Melina true nature.
I believe she is undoubtedly the Gloom eyes queen and her curse is non others than her being the holder rune of death. Unlike Messmer who Marika still somewhat love and try to find a cure for him Melina is completely abandon and villainized due to she was born as an embodiment of death and her purpose since birth is to bring death but queen Marika, being a great mother she doesn't want anyone to die, so she order Malekith to destroy Melina's body and seal her rune away. And there will always be some people who disagree with the sealing so birth the Godskins.
Why I think Melina is the gloom eyes queen and Messmer's sister?
1. Snake have gloomy eyes and the Godskins have some snake like characteristics which means she must have the similar curse with Messmer
2. Destined death and ghost flame that godskins, Malekith and black knives assassin use are considered a flame too so... It's no surprise that the gloom eyes queen could be the kindling since she inherited death itself.
With info from the dlc its very likely messmer is melinas brother and melina said she was born in the erdtree who only marika enters.
Melina is very death and rebirth focused I believe she represents the cycle of life and death this is why her speech befor she sets the tree on fire says "this world is in need of death indiscriminate"
As well as when you go for the frenzy flame she asks you not to take it as it will end the birth cycle

Messmer is Marikas first child. "You will wage war in a land far, far away; where ye will live and die." 3rd Church of Marika site of grace told by Melina.
Also Godrick very likely wasn t child of Marika. He might very well be an earlier offspring of Godfrey, just as Nepheli. (If Nepheli and Godrick aren t even offspring of ANOTHER offspring of Godfrey.)
After "escaping" the hornsent/towerfolk Marika must have met Godfrey and together with him and her Eardtree built / rennovated what is now the Eternal City of Lyendell.
Starting the Golden Lineage with Messmer, Morgott and Mohg and Godwyn.
He perhaps proved his worth in the Colluseom that have the similar (flying) snake theme whilst Messmer himself is also still dressed as some sort of Gladiator when we fight him. After that he maybe acted on his own or perhaps they even agreed with some sort of plan, after finding out the atrocities of the hornsent against his mother where he then started the eradication we see in the lore trailer.

I actually don't know if godrick is Godfreys kid, he might be godwyns but that's just speculation
i just replayed through that fight last night. after you beat him the finger reader says that all the demi gods are queen marika's children, but that godrick is a distant relation and the runt of the litter (whatever that means).

It surprises me how they literally pronounce the names in the game and mfs still pronounce it wrong.
It's crazy that even after all of this, Radagon is 5 times stronger in the lore. Godfreys backstory should have been changed so that he is weaker when we fight him, as it would match the gameplay a lot better. (Godfrey is the strongest he has ever been when we fight him, almost every other boss is past their prime)

@@toastmaster914 his strength makes sense because marika is radagon, Marika only really got her strength after being chosen by the Golden order, meaning that she gained most of her power from the Elden Ring, She also had some power that wasnt from the elden ring, Hence why Marika/Radagon is Much weaker than he should be in the Lore, because most of his power is shattered.
We fight Radagon in his weakest form. The Elden Ring was shattered, he was crucifixed inside the erdtree and he literally has a hole in his chest
I don't know if anyone else noticed, but Radagon is literally missing half of his torso, likely hasn't eaten or moved in possibly years, and still manages to be one of the stronger bosses in game. The elden ring was shattered, it's likely all that's keeping him from completely falling apart. As fragments are still useful. But still
Godfrey is known as the first Elden Lord, yes, but he’s not known as the first lord of the Golden Order. We have reason to believe that the Order was established during/after his banishment, as the crucible-related elements such as omens, misbegotten, and his loyal crucible knights were tolerated under Godfrey but NOT under the Golden Order. He also, of course, doesn’t use any golden order incantations, nor do his associated warriors/knights.
I thought godrick was a descendant of Godfrey’s descendants not his pure son.

Everything fell apart after Godwyns soul died.
Godfrey is still Marikas consort, she has two. He's not her ex. And she's the one who gavee him the beast to put on his back to help hold back his bloodlust.

There's one thing I cannot understand about this man.
Godfrey cast aside his warrior spirit to conduct himself as a lord as well as taking Serosh upon his back to suppress his battelust. He led armies of the Golden Order defeating multiple mighty enemies only to be banished with his kin outside the Lands Between. In the Badlands he was finally slain by impalement and when long lost grace called him back to life, he returned wanting to be granted audience once more, perhaps even knowing he could fail as he may likely face another Tarnished who can kill him.
The one thing I cannot understand is why.
Why return to the very order that banished you, to the god that you know used you, to likely suppress who you truly are, a warrior, again to become Elden Lord to a broken order abandoned by its own very Outer God?
What do you stand to gain Godfrey? Do you have a mending rune of your own? Do you think a fractured order can still work?
I can never understand this man.

No Godwyns corpse is under storm veil and can also be seen above Fia later in the game.

Marika sent Godfrey on a quest to defeat the Giants on the Mountaintops, actually. That, and he led an army to defeat the stormhawk king in stormveil castle.
