loved it Ian. even if you don't catch it's great to be out. I've got my 12 footer set up poly leader if I need it etc. was tying flies today and awaiting a heavier Skagit and a 14 ft Oracle rods arrival. fishing the Irvine this yr to learn spray casting in difficult circumstances then maybe an Ayr ticket and day trips up north east next year. you're an inspiration though so keep going
spey casting I meant, see phones and fingers like mine! It's great to get on the river and great to watch your videos if I can't. You should try tying your own flies Ian, I bought a job lot of materials and a starter kit and that did me. Once you know how and realise there's much simpler ways to do things than whip finishes and bobbin holders etc- (I use simple half hitches and seal those with varnish) and use your own hands and fingers with some help from hackle pliers, you'll wonder why you ever bought flies. When the trout season comes it's great to go to the river maybe with a way of using your tying vice in your car and tie up what you see hatching there. As for salmon flies, there are plenty patterns you can copy or take inspiration from. You can add to your fly tying materials and tie like mad during the winter lay off when stuck indoors too, keeps the brain on the fish! tight lines.
Hi can I ask what stretch of the river Ayr you fish, I've fished the failford up to pedens cove a few times with no luck. Plus I've never seen another angler there , was just wondering if that stretch of water is not so good. Any help is much appreciated.
@@Emccgers I usually fish the annbank club water. There is plenty to choose from. There should be fish thru out the system now although I think there will be more fish further up the river. Just have to go down and try your luck. Depends on the day, water level but mostly your luck. If you see my videos I often dont catch fish. Just nice to be out salmon fishing and by the river
@@garyrobertson9534 I'd heard the garnock was doing ok considering the overall poor state of Scottish salmon stocks. heard rumours of fish in the teens too
@@fraser5754 someone caught a 17 lbs salmon at the start of the salmon season. A 13.5 lbs was caught a few weeks ago. The ones I’ve caught have been around 8lbs
I'm a carp angler, but really enjoy watching these vids. I have tried fly fishing many years ago in Scotland.
Thanks. Glad you enjoy the videos. Ive not done much carp fishing but I guess something to get into

Very jealous, been saying for years I need to wet a line again
Thanks. Always time to get back into it although not much of the season left this year
by the way, we are still getting salmon and sea trout entering the Irvine at the estuary and likely will do through november
I’ve had 2 salmon out the garnock so far this season
