I think my favorite story from this book is "Die Geschichte vom Suppen-Kaspar" (not sure what the name is in English). The story of a fat child who refuses to eat his soup, his parents refuse to give him anything else, and he slowly whithers away until-on the fifth day-he dies and his parents put the bowl of soup on his grave. lol
My Papa came to the US from Deutschland and since I am named Peter (after his father, I think) his mother - my Oma - thought it would be great to send me the Struwwelpeter book. I was maybe five at the time. It gave me nightmares for at least a decade, but I couldn't stop going back to it. It held a morbid fascination for me despite the nightmares. Half a century later, I was going through our storage shed and I ran across a box of old books - including good ol' Struwwelpeter. Sadly - or fortunately? - the box had suffered enough water damage that all the books in it were warped and smelly from mold so I had to throw it all away. I wonder if Herr Hoffman has has a grotesquely appropriate punishment for little boys who don't take care of their books and the books get ruined. Perhaps something involving papier-mâché...
The way she has ZERO empathy lmao

Actually, just about every story in this book is delightfully unhinged 😂
