Same thing happened to me. They raised the price and changed manufacture. I make all my own today. It keeps me off the streets as they say. Your story resonates with me. I’m 69 and shaking my head at some of the prices today. Thank you for sharing the story with your dad.

Great story Chris. Remember cards of jigs too! I had to buy partial cards pinching pennies 😂

Hey Chris, this is Gary in Romance. That’s a great story. I have several stories of the adventures that I had with my Dad about crazy things like that. He’s been gone 24 years and I miss him everyday. I still have the 1971 Sears 12 ft flat bottom Jon boat that we fished out of and I still fish out of it !! God Bless !!

About 35 years ago I was fishing Black lake just outside of Monroe Louisiana and a old man paddling around a small boat was using a solid black hair jig with a pork chunk. The lake is loaded with cypress trees. He used a long rod and basically set his jig straight down all around the trees. I couldn’t believe the fish he was catching on that jig not even casting. I had forgotten about that until I started watching your videos. It’s time to try the hair jig and pork chunk for sure.

Might b good for a whippersnapper or 2 learn to resharpen their hooks too. It’s no longer necessary for some to reuse tackle but you never know when something catastrophic changes the whole game. I remember jig cards and low prices too and we still scrounged where we could. 😂

Awesome life to live with memories like that. I learned this Christmas the tables have turned on Me now. Shopping for Grandkids Dadgum baby dolls and toy prices were insane. 50 bucks for a doll that dont pee poop or talk. A good bb gun was 150 bucks. I like to cause problems so i got em all cow bells and gave em each cash to go get whatever they want. 7 grandkids shaking cow bells at the same time was awesome. Then I went home.

That’s funny, I came across some of dad’s jig cards, over a dozen cards from Stan Sloan’s Zorrow weedless Booza fly hair jigs, price marked at 72cents….

Their are a lot of things I wont buy today because they priced themselves out of the market. Mostly food products that raised the prices and made the portions smaller. Anyway...Keep the stories coming!

I know that’s right! “We gonna fish a Texas rig today son.” Lol
Fishing from the back of the boat, that lightweight Texas rig gets bit. Cheap too if you gotta break it off considering how expensive everything is nowadays.

Man, I still carry a torch lighter on me in the boat to fuze worms& senkos back while im fishin em. After catchin a good bass I'll fold a senko in half& hit the open part w the torch, hold it a minute& new worm! when it gets slow even figured to weld a tiny curltail to the senko from a burnt powerworm& fish a wacky senko w a tiny curltail on one end: gets that bite when bass dont wanna. I dont o - ring or nothin, just fuze them worms back until you cant.

Every time my dad is with me when we go get a sammich from a fast food establishment, he has a fit at the prices and im reminded of how you use to could get a whole sack of burgers for $4.99 😅😅

    Good stuff there friend.
It’s really hard to believe the price of tackle nowadays….. especially with dang near all of it being made overseas. 🙄
The only overseas baits I don’t mind is Rapala, because that’s where they originated (Finland) from long long ago and are good quality baits.
Too many old american brands have now been outsourced. 😏

Got good with the jigs & the worms because they were cheap. I go around to the small tackle shops when im out fishin, buy the leadheads, some places got good brands of bassjig heads, then i get skirts online if the shops dont have skirt material& just make jigs up for fishin'. Definitely cheaper than the ones goin for $5& up. I'm sure your pop is smilin' down on us fools here overpayin for everything.

If more people were like your dad thing wouldn't be as expensive now. Every time we pay for something we're telling those companies we agree to the price. If we left more stuff on the shelves and refuse to pay the asking price, companies would lower the price, weather it's eggs or jigs, if it stays of the shelves not selling the prices will come down.

If he bought that whole card of jigs at 68cents a piece I wonder what you would get for that card today 🤔

  • @wciii3591
    @wciii3591 День тому

A 30% raise is pretty steep. Most of today's prices are because the industry is so consolidated, just like everything else. I wonder what your dad would think about paying a dollar for a hook?
