Amazing duel guys, I assume they are honorable for not killing them while they’re down, also have you guys ever though of making a duel with a really overpowered sith taking on multiple opponents with stuff like force lighting and lightsaber throws? I thought it’d be a cool idea, you could do the lightning with flickering lights up their sleeve, whether you use this idea or not you earned a sub 👍

I think the thing that gets me is the narrative of this fight is particularly interesting. In the outset, the Hero is grievously wounded by the Holocron's guardian and is barely holding on for most of the encounter. Yet time and time again he regathers himself again and again to fight with a vigor of a healthy man, to the extent of seeming more powerful as the fight wore on. His conviction to complete his task was his strength and until that point he couldn't let him fall. Right up to the point of exposing his chest to his adversary as a taunt. "Look, you stabbed me once with my guard down, now that I'm aware your blade will never reach me again." In contrast the other man was an bitter, angry sentry who hated his job yet did it obediently with brutal efficacy. Literally every action boiled in resentment at having his entire life lead to guarding this stupid stone in the middle of nowhere. Power was everything and as a man usually at the bottom of the sith pecking order, took immense delight in destroying those fools who dared venture close. Yet his confrontation with this singularly determined stranger frustrated him, he had after all inflicted a telling blow, how did he keep getting up? The idea of duty being a driving force was alien to him until he observed that the stranger sought to destroy the holocron and, in a fit of anger, threw it away. After all, if he was so determined to destroy the damn thing, then getting rid of it would sap his remaining strength? Just you, and me! Perhaps it was the closest he ever had to having anyone in his life that he could call a peer and simply had no idea how to deal with it. All he had was a duty, a fear of the sith and a thankless task that he resented, he was chained to that cursed thing being unable to ever use it's power. No, instead the inquisitor misread the situation and robbed himself of the only duty he ever had. Without the Holocron to project he was an angry, scared guard dog with no teeth, something the Jedi recognised in him in the short exchange that followed. In contrast, the Jedi fought for life and clung to it as even without it there his duty was still intact; so he slain the young man and wandered into the wilderness, doggiedly determined to find the Holocron in the water and ensure it wouldn't ruin another life like it did the inquisitor.
What’s truly amazing about your story, is that you nailed a lot of the talking points we discussed when developing the narrative of the fight. Brilliant work!
(Notices a few pings. Keeps meaning to reply. XD) Wow. Honestly I'm flattered, as I had only expected to indulge myself by writing. XD Funnily enough I've never really written any fiction by itself; I largely learnt to write by hitting up roleplaying forums a while back, quite literally as I didn't actually take my GCSE English when I was in school and largely stuck to more academic writing when I went to uni. So yeah, kinda surprised. I'll give those comments a little thought and write up some short stories to see how it goes. That being said I only really applied ink to the APEX colouring book. The credit really goes to those guys for setting an evocative scene.
Okay, i seriously loved this. One issue i sometimes have with some of these fanmade lightsaber duels is that they can feel more like a sparring match than an actual duel, but i never felt that in this. This truly felt like a fight to the death. It had some of the choreography and finess of the prequel duels, while also having that power behind each strike and that chaos that comes with just trying to stay alive. Truly beautiful

I've been watching your entries for the last two years and you two are the only ones who seem to understand that you're supposed to be trying to kill each other and not just slapping colorful swords together. Intense as always, and really cool to see you guys reverse roles.
To be fair, he did say in the last two years. Ryan and Dorkman’s classic duel was about 8 or so years ago I think? Praise be the masters that came before.
The choreography is stellar. But there is one thing I'd really like to highlight that's well done in this: For a 4 minute "fight scene," the entire sequence tells a story that can be felt. There is this ebb and flow between the two characters. With one mistaken move, the other can really lose while the other wins. The moves are stylized and fancy, yes, but they're not taken to a degree where they don't feel necessary - in fact, it's the opposite, the moves enhance the personality of these two foes and just make the short even more exciting. A lot of other fight scenes don't get the "story" part. They just exhibit two people brawling it out and focus on the "moves" rather than the "emotion." So, really, very well done.
This is quite possibly my favorite comment in here. You are literally hitting on the ideas that we discuss during the choreography process. Before we even begin to clash weapons, we talk about story, emotion and the positives and negatives that we want our protagonist to go through. Your comment makes me very proud because it shows that we accomplished our goal. You can choreograph the fanciest or simplest moves you want, but they mean nothing if they're not tied to the emotion of the character. Thank you for this comment!
It's sick how fluid and natural this fight is. From another comment they said it's not just slapping colorful swords together. THIS is what a true light saber duel between 2 foes should look like. Very well done and deserving of all accolades.
Love the look of Dan in all the fights I've seen him in.. dude just has that bad ass crazed look about him with a viking-esk onscreen presence that I just want to see more of... give this guy his own feature-length film.

I love how brutal, visceral, and uncoordinated you make it look. It’s so much more grounded and real than other lightsaber fights I’ve seen, looking more light an actual fight than a dance.
This is absolutely amazing! I have been looking forward to it all year, and it does not disappoint. Your duels are always my favorite every year. Each one is unique from every other fan duel out there, whether it is using tonfas, is a 3V1, or resembling a horror story! Overall, the choreography is yet again, amazing! Especially that you did it in cold temperatures, and with the water pelting down. The use of the force looked so realistic, and is one of the best versions I have seen in a fan duel. Also, it was cool to see a switch up of you guys’ roles. Great job yet again! Congratulations on winning Saber Comp again! It is well deserved.

Congratulations you sexy beasts! This masterpiece truly was the Apex of Sabercomp 2020. It was so good to see on your 5th anniversary of entering you went back to just you and Dan going at it. Seeing you guys fight as kids in your backyard to now literally brought a tear to my eye! A bromance of the ages! You continually inspire me and influence my filming in ways you wouldn't even know, even though you're half the world away and we haven't even met (yet) I still consider you a mentor. i have seen my fair share of light saber battles; this one has the best fight choreography i have never seen, I wish more fight scenes like this would find its way into the Star Wars Franchise. Talk about eye candy, I tip my hat to you Mr. Michael Yadvish. The force is strong in you.
You know what I love about this fight? Proper use of edits and cuts. So many fights cut so frequently, that it's jarring and painful. You guys do cuts but not every second. You allow the combat to flow so much better as a result!
Somebody Is getting good in premier.... Again, well done. I'm now more convinced than ever that this is the route for me. I gotta find someone to be my saber buddy, so I can beat the hell out of em lol.
What I think made the actual combat so amazing is the fact that they acted like they were actually trying to hit each other. A lot of the time in other videos, the movements look nice but they are aiming at the others saber. Also they used stuff like the judo throw that made it seem a lot more real. I actually felt like they were really fighting for their lives. Also great video descriprion lol.
Adding actually marshal arts was an amazing touch. The leg sweep, and the shoulder throw at the end made that so much better than just clashing blades.
Well done. The best choreographed fights are the ones where it still looks like the opponents are actually fighting, rather than a fancy dancing "duel" like most you see on UA-cam or in SaberComp. You pulled it off well. Again I say, well done.
I love the fact that you've incorporated the force predictions that so many "recreations" have failed to account for, perfectly shown how they can block strikes without even seeing it through the force

This duel perfectly shows a damaged, older but wiser light side user vs a young powerful dark side user. Great performances from both, good camera man and good editing 👍
Incredible work fellas. I loved every moment. Great narrative, good cinematography and choreography, and insane lighting. Either one of you guys could beat Rey and her mary sue powers easily.
Amazing job by the entire team. It’s crazy to me that both of your last two lightsaber duel videos are better choreographed, much more intense and just all around better than any lightsaber battle in any of the 9 movies in the skywalker saga. You should write about fiction. The way you analyze and use these short 5 minutes and put it into so many words without droning on is an art form.

These 5 minutes have more passion and spirit in them than the entire sequel trilogy
This is better than the final fight in the rise of skywalker. The Choreography here was 100x better than the sequels. Even the music was good.
