If you only do 1 swap button you can do it without that option, but as soon as you add more buttons and navigation options you'll have to use selected visuals to avoid constantly refreshing the page
Great video! I've been using this technique for awhile now and I've found it's helpful to group your visuals to easily identify them when creating bookmarks. Simply select your visuals from the selection pane and right click them, select group and give it a name. I see that you did the same thing with "slicer panel" but it might be worth mentioning this technique.
I've used that in a report to improve performance and change the aggregation of the data by different dimensions instead of having a cartesian product dimension. Result: it was 10 TIMES fastest. Great video, Adam, as always
Been using this for a while but as others said it can be high maintenance. Would be nice if such functionalities came out of the box. Perhaps a virtual container box that let's you add multiple visuals to a container and switch between them easily. In addition to your video I would advice to group the selection layers btw, this allows for easier editing.
I was trying to have 2 of these toggles on my report and thats when I realized when the All Visuals breaks things. I knew selected visuals was the answer but I couldnt figure it out... Going to try following this step by step, thanks!
Thank you so much for this video.. Got struck in the same concept without knowing that we should add all the hided visuals in the bookmarks as well to get the correct visual when we select the toggle button.
I do this all the time ever since you showed how to set up buttons with bookmarks...it makes my reports so much more customizable and clean at the same time.
Yes, yes, yes! Very useful. Thank you. I'm using bookmarks to update filtering for different customer audiences. This swapping is just the thing I need. I want understanding selected visuals option on the bookmark properly.
#masterbookmarks I actually started doing this exact thing just a few months... created: Navigation Menu, Menu Tree, Filter Display toggles, Visual toggles (Charts vs Matrix) and Quick Granularity buttons... word of advice, use groups and naming conventions that make it easier to locate when linking to an Action... Selections multi-layered groups, Bookmarks only single layered so can get messy
I love UA-cam suggestions sometimes. I was wondering if Power Bi could do something like this yesterday as I didn't want to have to create a bunch of pages. This video was suggested by UA-cam and was exactly what I needed. Thanks for the great video, Adam!
Great video! Probably grouping the objects which are being hidden/shown would make the bookmark setting even more streamline, at least that is how I usually manage my bookmarks and objects.
Love love this, took me ages to understand these before, this would have been so valuable then but also really useful as best case practice for the workflow in setting them up. #masterbookmarks, more please! Making the reports easier to navigate is critical.
While I've been using bookmarks in testing, I haven't really rolled it out live yet, I've only really unticked the data option so I'd love it if you done a video on all the bookmark functionality. The selected visuals is a game changer, I can't believe I haven't used it... Definitely #masterbookmarks
I use book marks often. I did not know you could do just a few visuals instead of the whole page. That was a nice trick to know. My pet peeve is when I have a book mark just the way I want it, then I add a visual somewhere else and it messes up my bookmark by showing up. I'm hoping this fixes that problem as well.
Thanks a lot Adam . This video was really helpful . Just wanted to clear my understanding of the bookmarks.. can we please have a video in the future explaining ‘data’ ‘display ‘ ‘ Current page ‘ feature ? What happens if we keep data - uncheck display or vice versa ?
Hi Adam, you're doing great job. This video inspire me a lot to play around Power BI. Just one quick question!.. . how to change the visual position using bookmark? plz suggest some tips, it would be very helpful for my report. Thanks for sharing your knowledge in best way!...
Are all bookmark calculated at the same time (when user opens the report) or it only calculates when you select the bookmark ? Thank you , awesome video .
great video, we would like to know if there could be a video to show us a matrix table and using a slicer to choose one or more measures to be included in columns, please, thank you.
Great Video, but how can I obtain the same effect of showed in the first seconds of this video ? I explain myself, wht 2 buttons you can switch from one visual (or group of visuals) to another...but in a static way. In your video you show us that you use something like window handle to swith from one visual to another one. How can I obtain tihs effect ? thank for you reply.
I am already doing most of this but never played around with Selected Visuals. I prefer to group together the 2 sets (tree/button and waterfall/matrix/button)
Guys you are Awesome Really !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to know Is there is way to create an alert or notification for data contain (Past dates and further dates) alert for further dates of 2 months prior is there is way????
Hi, After clicking on any slicer or datapoint in any Slicer/Visual, if we toggle the view or change the view in the same page of the power BI report, it again shows whole report rather it should show the filtered report. How can it be achieved?
Hi Adam Saxton 💊 Selected visuals in Bookmarks is like the red pill in Matrix 😎 #MasterBookmarks 👨🏫 I teach that in my Power BI courses Thanks for sharing
I have used this concept a lot in my projects... Can you get me some trick, on how can we switch visuals based on a measure value... Like a measure is a switch DAX statement... Based on that value we can show different visuals... Kindly share if you have any such trick.
Sorry if this is a silly question: In the video there is a transition effect between the bookmarks. The angled line with the circle in the middle that slides across to show the new visual. Is this transition effect doable in Power BI? Or was this added to the video in post-production for emphasis?
#masterbookmarks - yes please add more content like this - I've never played too much with bookmarks because it seems tedious and complex - resulting on adding an extra page for a visual that I could have included like you did on the video. thanks!
great video! but how did you got the animation for the intro part going? is that something specific for the video only? or can it be done within powerbi?
Q: can i do that wired to a data condition? instead of clicking ? example.. if there is active alerts. i want to swap to Alert Listing Visual. but is there is no active alert i want to swap to Goal Achivements visual. automaticaly based on de data update of the dash that ocours on time bases of 10 minutes
This doesn’t’ work, as in if you select a value from one of the visualisations that is showing on the page it will filter the visualisations that are showing but then when you click the bookmark button it does not hold the filters, any reason why it would not this?
Out of interest, how do you see the new field parameters capability fitting in here? they seem to be able to replace bookmarks/buttons when there is a common axis in visuals, and are much quicker/simpler to apply than bookmarks.
Let's suppose if it has date drop and I want display the one visual for latest date and another visual previous dates. can we achieve that functionality
#masterbookmarks - I usually use bookmarks to add panel with additional slicers, expand multiple line cards through some dimention or show table prepared to export.
How does this impact performance? I have 10 buttons for 10 KPIs and every button click swaps 2 visuals (card & trend) relevant to that KPI. Does this impact performance even though other 18 visuals (associated with other 9 buttons) are hidden at any given point?
#masterbookmarks ...yes would like to understand what we can and (equally important) what we cannot when setting up a bookmark. Bookmarks are very powerful but still high maintenance if the report needs changes. Thanks Patrick
That is really cool, but at what point hidden visuals are calculated? If only visible ones are calculated, then it is neat and I can use it a lot. I would not want to degrade performance.
#masterbookmarks I’ve set up various bookmarks but largely kept the settings of the bookmarks settings as is. I’ve tried playing around with the different settings but either created issues or didn’t see what I expected. Additional content here would be awesome!
Doing it already but haven't used selected visual option. Thankyou for sharing

You're the only Power BI channel that doesn't add to my new pet peeve - Power BI videos.

LOVE layering pages, reduces overall page size while proviising maximum info
Personalise visuals in the service also achieves this really well too. Such a good way to customise multplie visuals to the users needs
I do this all the time ever since you showed how to set up buttons with bookmarks...it makes my reports so much more customizable and clean at the same time.
@@dylanv1994use yes. You would need 2 different graphs, stack them on top of each other and you would hide one in one visual
Had to do a really complicated report with the help of bookmarks, selections and data. Its nice to see how "Selected Visuals" is used
Yes, yes, yes! Very useful. Thank you. I'm using bookmarks to update filtering for different customer audiences. This swapping is just the thing I need. I want understanding selected visuals option on the bookmark properly.
Just used this technique in a project. Thank you for sharing!
BAM! Great to hear!
Fantastic Adam, thank you for the walk through! I used a similar technique in Tableau, but this seems easier 🤠
Just discovered this channel, and these guys are my favorite now :)
Great video. Somewhat comforting, I've already done this to show/hide charts. Yay.
Short and sweet explanation. Love it!
You gave amazing insights and pro expertise to apply in our reports.
Really great to know about all selected! Thanx Adam
Incredible- definitely blew my mind! No more creating huge pages that are hard and non-intuitive to navigate. Thanks so much
Awesome as usual GIAC team ! You rock
How to switch the visuals based on slicer selection and all instead of button? Any workaround pls
#masterbookmarks - I've never really had a satisfactory explanation of 'selected visuals', so this would be useful.
Great video.. I did not even think about switchingvisuals..Thanks so much..
what a tip that I am using in my report have those arrows inside the visualizations. thanks
Hi Adam, you're doing great job. This video inspire me a lot to play around Power BI. Just one quick question!.. . how to change the visual position using bookmark? plz suggest some tips, it would be very helpful for my report.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge in best way!...
Awesome! Super-friggin-cool. Solved a problem I've been grappling with for a few weeks now! Thanks so much.
Very useful, i have used this trick but Selected Visual is new for me. As always thanks for sharing :)
Same as you - mind blown! Great tip Adam - thanks for sharing it!
I didn't even know I needed this so much LOL.
Thanks so much!!!
What exactly the difference is all visuals and selected visuals. I didn't get it.
But as always great video... really helpful.
Are all bookmark calculated at the same time (when user opens the report) or it only calculates when you select the bookmark ? Thank you , awesome video .
Beautiful! Thanks so much, this just saved my final page of my project. Kudos!
Great timing Adam, I am going to use this solution today! Please keep up the great work!
ya this i have been using except the selected visuals part, again an awesome video and really valuable
Awesome! Exactly what I was looking for.
Can i download this file? if so from where? Appreciate if you can let me know. Thank U
great video, can this be done for all graphs within the page?
Thanks for sharing, slowly coming together...
great video, we would like to know if there could be a video to show us a matrix table and using a slicer to choose one or more measures to be included in columns, please, thank you.
Please can you do a video on how to add a scroll bar to the whole page to add more visuals. Thanks!
Great sir ..Thank u so much for your effort
Exactly what I needed 🥰
BAM!
Powerful presentation Adam

found the solution right away thanks for this!
Thanks buddy. exactly what i was looking for. May God Bless You! Jai Shri Ram!!
This is a great utility! Thanks for sharing!!
Excelente vídeo, muchas gracias por toda la información que brindan.
This was so great.. such a great fix with such simple explanation!!! Thanks a lot..:):)
Thank you for this video finally I have done this
Guys you are Awesome Really !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wanted to know Is there is way to create an alert or notification for data contain (Past dates and further dates) alert for further dates of 2 months prior is there is way????

hello, i would like my filtering on one visual to carry over when i do that change .. can someone help me out pls
Great insight.Gonna try out.
great video! but how did you got the animation for the intro part going? is that something specific for the video only? or can it be done within powerbi?
Thank you! I just used it!! :D❤
Can I switch over to a paginated report visual?
Just what I needed
Q: can i do that wired to a data condition? instead of clicking ? example.. if there is active alerts. i want to swap to Alert Listing Visual. but is there is no active alert i want to swap to Goal Achivements visual. automaticaly based on de data update of the dash that ocours on time bases of 10 minutes

Thank you so much
Yoooo. Awesome videos. Do you know any way to auto grab a users Microsoft profile photo and display in a report? Thanks for the videooooos.
Thank you
You are the best!!
That is really cool, but at what point hidden visuals are calculated? If only visible ones are calculated, then it is neat and I can use it a lot. I would not want to degrade performance.
They are calculated only when they become visible.
Thanks for the intro to Bookmarks & Buttons. #MasterBookmarks
Very good. I finally realized what the 'Visuals' option is for. #masterbookmarks
Awesome insight!
great work
Can you animate the swapping of the visuals?
Blew my mind!
#masterbookmarks I’ve set up various bookmarks but largely kept the settings of the bookmarks settings as is. I’ve tried playing around with the different settings but either created issues or didn’t see what I expected. Additional content here would be awesome!
