For bad luck desktop version have problem in changing size format of unicode... Well your way cant succeed if you have deselected data option in bookmarks....

Maybe I solve it randomly. In the visual where you can apply settings to states if you change it to forexample selected from default and you start to resize there than go back to the default you can change the size normally It looks like a bug, but after changing the states it works perfectly fine for me I hope this help
This is a great tip, much cleaner than the way I used to create toggle buttons using 2 overlapping button images! Will definitely be implementing this in to future reports. Great video as usual Bas
Something to be aware of is that not all Unicode characters are supported on Mac. So if you have users that will consume reports on a Mac then make sure you select a Unicode character supported on both Windows and Mac.

I did the toggle button as you showed in this video, but somehow I can't read off some very thin border around the border. The border color is the background color I chose for the button.

I just built my very first power BI dashboard and I must say it was a very steep learning curve yet extremely satisfying once you get it. The basics are ok, but once you want to go fancy, like using bookmarks with trigger buttons, fancy tool tips that points to pages, or pop up windows and hidden slices, then the fun really begins. I dont know what I was doing with excel for all these years when Power BI had been installed on my laptop all these times lol. Still learning and will definitely give this trick a try.
Great tip, as always! I’ve always used multiple images to achieve this, and getting the image with the exact size and colour for every project can be time consuming. This is definitely super efficient especially for mockups to present different options to end user before actually building the full report.

I fixed it somehow. Deleted the button and started all over and it's perfect now. One of PBI glitches, probably. I also noticed that the circle size changes when I change the size of the button.
Awesome technique, only thing I am struggling with is that it is difficult to scale down, in other words if you want to have a small toggle button, the "dot" starts to be not center-aligned anymore...
built-in limitations of PBI text padding make it impossible to get this down to the required size. However with character U+26AB, I can manage it (but this cannot change colour unfortunately). Thanks for another amazing vid!
This is a great tip - I will be using nav groups in the future, a tip for you... save yourself alot of formatting fiddaling, select Pill shape and 0 px boarder padding
This is great, thank you for sharing. unfortunately, this only works in two conditions: 1- The toggle must be as large as you have it on the video, we can't use a smaller one as the text inside, which is the black circle, will never be able to adjust to fit in the middle, padding isn't working at some point. 2- You created a white border, or we can use a solid color border, but that won't show well if the page background isn't solid color that we can't blend that border into. It was a great video, but won't work for me because of the Power BI restrictions. :(

For some reason, my default target state circle icon does not show after completing all the steps. I don't know if it's hidden on default because I don't see it and there is no response to me changing the color of the circle icon.
Super! Quick question, for some reason when I resize the button some sides of the padding doesnt work, specially the bottom and the left. Do I need to keep the size for a certain aspect?
You could also just find or create blank button import a custom icon that you just download from a icon library, and then just use the "icon" option switch between two costom icons with selected and deffault state, abit easier.

I respectfully disagree. I prefer these videos to be as concise as possible and visually focus on what’s important for each step. I think Bas does a great job keeping it short while explaining/showing the how & why of each step. Maybe there’s a cool design trick to effectively show the whole window, but I think showing the entire window will get distracting. When I’m following along in Power BI, I take advantage of pause, rewind & fast forwarded, as needed. Perhaps, this may help others as well or I’m not clearly understanding the issue.

Beautifully presented and very clear, BUT... I can't get it to work the way you demonstrated. It's fine up to 3:31 where the bookmark manager 'toggles between two states'. The two states invoke the correct bookmark filters, but the text on the button remains the same regardless of which way round I set the group, the bookmark and the deselection bookmark. By making the text of the main bookmark "Show / Hide Filters" I can deliver a usable solution because that text makes sense in both contexts but it is not as satisfying as your unicode trick. I tried it on multilple reports across different machines with different versions of PBI installed. Clearly I am missing a step, being remarkably stupid, or both. Either way I would LOVE some guidance here because your toggle switch is such an elegant and efficient solution (if only I could get it to work!
what an unmitigated nightmare of steps just to create a toggle button... why the hell is this not a native control within PowerBI? Not a critique of your ingenious solution... powerbi just sucks in many, many ways...
I encountered an imperfect place, which is different from your operation. After adjusting the width of the border, there will be a circle of very thin lines at the original edge, which can be easily seen. The color of this line changes according to the fill color. I cannot solve this problem. I did not find this problem when watching the video. I use the Chinese version 2022-11
my only concern is that when filters are selected (slicers), it defaults to "All". let's say you have one for the continent (with America, Europe, ASIA, AFRICA, etc), so no selection in that slicer or all selected would be your worldwide data, however, if you are to take a look at ASIA, so you choose from the slicer region "ASIA", then click the toggle to change visuals, the slicer would return to all instead of keeping ASIA, how do we fix this issue?
Great video and solution, but the only problem is when someone zoom or change the size of the report. 100% is good. but perspective of border and padding change if they go to 115% or 85% which makes it look off in alignment again. any tips?

good vid. if you're having issues with the unicode size and font try "ctrl" clicking on the toggle to trigger changes. you may also need to set the states to different states and ctrl click to trigger. glitchy pbi

Because the Borders are active by default. You need to switch borders off to resize the dot
After pasting the circle in place of Toggle ON, the size of the circle is not increasing. Kept the state as "Default" but no change in size.

There seems to be a bug in my version of Power BI (April 2024), the padding doesn't work to bring the circle up a little bit. Strange.

These tutorials are excellent, but it does highlight so many shortcomings in Power BI that could be very easily resolved by the developers.

For some reason, all of my bookmarks are updating to the latest, regardless if I only update the selected bookmark.. Im stuck..😢

For anyone having resizing issues, try clicking the button and selecting an unselecting. This got my sizing to take.

make sure to update the bookmark correctly (you probably left the data state checked under bookmark options )

That's great! However when I tried, for selected mode it was ok, but when deselected, the circle went ghost. Anybody experienced the same?

Hello, thank you for these explanations. I use Power Bi and I have Toggle buttons. However, when I have filters, once I turn the toggle on or off, I have to redo my filter selection every time. Do you know if it is possible to leave the filters active while turning the toggle off and on? Thank you for your help.

good vid. if you're having issues with the unicode size and font try "ctrl" clicking on the toggle to trigger changes. you may also need to set the states to different states and ctrl click to trigger. glitchy pbi
