Rigid Industries Amber LED Flood Light Review

- In this episode we take a look at the Rigid Industries Dually Amber LED Flood light and compare them with the white Dually Flood light with amber light cover. After having driven at night with a bunch of other Jeeps on a trail and the dust was kicking up everywhere, we ended up turning off all our white LED light because the glare was terrible. It was easier to see through the dust with just our headlights. So we began investigating the benefits of amber off-road lights and taking a look at using a LED light cover alternative. The results were pretty interesting.

I wear oakleys with an amberish lens and that helps a ton even with ultra bright white lights. The lenses help to create more contrast and does a good job in reducing the harshness of lights.
Exactly the information I was looking for. Thank you for approaching this scientifically and giving us the raw data. Made my decision making much easier!
I just installed some 6000k LED 25w spot/flood COMBO (yellow / amber) on lower front bumper. This was a great video. The comparison really helped me. These come in handy in Big Bear because our local mountains are know for fog during winter. I am going to install a 2nd par on hood for both passenger / driver sides. Probably will go full spot. I already have 4 Halogen white driving lights so this will give me good flexibility in dark, dust, snow, fog. PLEASE post video when you used them in snow, fog etc. Great Information.
I like how you test everything on the trail :)
This answered all my questions. Great review.
Nice review Brad. I have already purchased some things based on you unbiased reviews and opinion. For that I thank you. Keep them coming' you always do an amazing job.
Glad the reviews have helped you and absolutely more reviews coming in the future... love checking out new gear! Thanks!!
straight to the point and comparisons, and links! great video.
thumbs up. 5 minute video and really just full of info and comparison data. thanks man
Thank you!
Thanks for doing the research. My research is watching your awesome videos. Im sold on the amber lights.
Great review. Nice first hand look at the options!
Thank you!
Actually I am glad you did this video , I have been looking for a more true amber fog light set.
There’s not much out there like these. I may do a combination with these and a set of yellow
But I do like these for real bad weather. Looking for another video on these. Thanks
I’m up in Canada and iv been using yellow/amber fog with a 12 inch bar in my lower grill for 10 years. When you get into a blizzard/fog shut down all your higher lights kick on the Yellow/amber lowers and you will be amazed the distance you gain.
I have a set of the flood lights in my PSC Brusier bumper and in some ways I think they’re brighter than my JW speaker 8700 series headlights so I don’t end up using my floods(fogs) really that often at all. The amber would definitely would’ve been a better choice or a color that cuts through the night but through the dust/fog/rain like how fogs are supposed to help out. Awesome video!
Good work Thank you for the Amber info
When I start adding lights I am thinking of using the Engo multifunction lights to have Amber and white all in one system. But first this winch will be installed hopefully this weekend!
Oh the multifunction lights are nice... may have to take closer look at those. A winch is a must! Thanks!
Your link for the Amber flood lights goes to Amber spot lights. Which type of pattern were the true amber lights you tested? Thanks
These were exactly my question it is like you were inside of my head...
First of all, thanks a bunch for you video...
However, I was really hoping to see how it performs in the dust, as I am on really dusty trails weekly...
Thanks again...
I'm running some Run-D amber led cubes on mine and they are freaking awesome. They offer a couple different beam patterns, I chose spot and it's slightly diffused as well so you can drive on the road with them on and not blind on coming traffic. They do great in the rain and fog, hopefully we will get some snow here in NC this year and I can test them out in the snow.
I'm considering some amber covers for my 6.7 cannons though because o don't want to lose the range o have with them.
Great to hear they are performing well for you... can't wait to hit the snow!
great video... subbed. looking to go with the dedicated amber. cheers
Makes me want to get some amber lights for my jeep. Great video
Amber is a good supplement light... thanks!
windshield Pods should you run 2 Spot LED's
on each side or should run a Spot and flood on each side? also do you
think the LED Amber LED should be mounted on the bumper? pointing strait
foreword or pointing up a little
I have been running Rigid amber lights for about a year. I drive in a lot of bad weather in the mountains of Oregon both on road and off. I am pleased with the ambers, they definitely put out less light but in snow, fog, dust and rain they are the best way to go IMHO.
Ben Lindner If I may ask, which beam pattern did you go with, flood? Also where did you mount them? Looking for some lights to use ON the road and off road as well, mounted on top of my ARB bumper. It's for snow fog and rain, so I know Amber is the way to go. Just need to choose which lights.
How are the amber flood pods working out for you? Are you using them on the freeway during bad weather?
This was a great comparison and really helped my decision-making! 1 thing to note however is that you're testing flood lights, so measuring the lumens at 50ft away is kind of far. I just purchased a pair of D2 (dually) Amber - driving lights and my bumper has room for another pair so I'll be going with the whites too! :D Thanks for the help
Any thoughts/info on how the amber fogs compare to stock fogs with regard to lux at 50 feet?
Good video. I have all RIGID LEDs. Here's what I did...Is I ordered some gel paper from Amazon for theatrics. Some amber, red, yellow sheets. If you cut out a cover sized amber section and put it in front of the white LED, with the RIGID amber cover...you can attain this same exact amber color. So if you want white, just snatch the cover off and walaaaaa. This worked for me. The filters are a dime a dozen.
Great video very informative and helpful
Thank you!
I'm going to try the amber covers first on both my Ridge flood and spot lights. Down the road after I see how your amber lights are working for you, Brad, I may add amber to both my forward and rear facing light arsenal.
Ya, some amber rear facing might be a pretty good idea!
Finally found a video like this! Amber really makes a difference! I wish I could find LED replacement bulbs in pure Amber as shown here, not 3000K yellow but Amber! Like for a H10 bulb. If anyone has a link to amber led replacement bulbs
Great review, kick azz sound track! Lol
I think the main issue is the proximity of the light to your eyes and not so much the color. The light bar lights up dust right in front of your eyes. Lower lights leave the dust near your eyes dark and much less distracting. This is also about color temperature and CRI values of the lights. Good visual comparison though. Seemed like the bluish light with the yellow color looked a little green? Thanks for the video, great stuff.
good review. nice to know there is actually a difference.
Thank you!
Great videos, thank you.
Ridget vs Baja Designs for 2006 Tacoma, or what do you think of KC also
do the amber led pods fit an 07 tacoma dog lights? i have a fog light mount currently on but i was wondering if rigid amber lights would fit?
Im planing on getting the rigid ambers in the same location you set up yours. Would you recommend i get flood or spots? I mainly want them for heavy fog. Did you notice alot of light bouncing on the hood?
Refraction is the word your looking for. Amder or yellow, euro cars have been coming with yellow lights for years. Ive run the yellow for years on off road rigs (i switched over from vw's and Mini's) the yellow seems brighter. I get film from Laminex and dont seem to ever loose intensity
Perfect video sir.
Racing off road one amber one blue on rear of vehicle. One of them usually cuts through fog or dust.
Being in California I don't suppose you see much snow. I live in Canada and the darker amber light is the best for snow trials as the white or yellow light washes out the ruts, IMO amber is the best light you can have for snow trails at night.
I got the lens covers and work just fine.
The reason you can see better is because of the light wavelength is longer so I can penetrate any atmospheric particles
it has been a year since you made this comment but it would be cool if you can tell me how did the amber cover works in snow driving. Thanks
is the "amber cover" can fit the radiance plus model please?
Are these strictly for off road use or would the amber pods work as on road fog lights as well?
Nice vid. I like the true amber color. I like Baja designs but they have more yellow amber as they call it. Does rigid make small light bars that are amber?
Nice! I have a red cover for my sr-s 20in and it does help but it helps a lot better when no lights are on lol, hopefully for Christmas I'll get some amber covers and see how I like those! As always stay bright :)
The SR-S 20 is a nice light for sure! I hope Santa brings me lots of Jeep stuff! Thanks!
TrailRecon sweet can't wait for more videos! Check out my channel on my reviews for the baja vs rigid lights
nice video you should look at sierra led lights. the company has a dual set up and is based her in California by Sacramento I believe
I'm always interesting in checking out new lights... will give them a look. Thanks!
I use the Vision X light cannon with the euro amber cover👍
I've never checked out Vision X up close, but I hear they make a great light.
Blue’s good for beach driving or sea spray,
yellow for dust dry road or desert & fog,
white @ 6k to ice blue 6.7k for tarmac roads driving.
IR & red for night hunting.
I prefer Amber covers myself even if they aren't as good because you can switch between Amber and White when you need either one vs being stuck to one specific color.
I think I would go with the amber lights, not the covers. Great review!
The ambers are going on my bumper this weekend! Thanks!
LUX @ 50 Feet
- White LED - 20.0
- Amber Cover - 8.5
- Amber LED 6.2
I wonder if the cover and the led has the same level of amber. Might be the Amber led itself has a different tone of amber
Is there a follow up video? You didn't exactly compare their effectiveness, just the hue and brightness.
awesome vid bro
Thank you!
great job very scientific it must of took hours to do this video!
i think I am just going to get the covers and put them in the glove box. So when i need them i can put them on but when im in the front of the group i can have my white shining leading the way
I think that is what i will do with mine!
Trust me the true amber is so much better when you live somewhere foggy like I do.
Great video. What's the song you added?
Wasn’t it a few decades back in France 🇫🇷 car headlights where yellow as standard 🤷🏻♂️
I like the covers better bud... just because it's a quick fix for as often as a guy needs amber light I don't understand putting a few hundred dollars into rarely used lights. just one man's opinion
Absolutely man, that was my thought process in the beginning. Totally understand wanting to us the covers! Thanks!
I get the idea of using the amber leds too. just boils down to whether you want your ride looking like a mothership homing device cuz of all the different lights on it or not. but as for light quality the Amber's leds do seem better then the clip on. but as always great review man :-)
Kevin England the covers want get it done like a regular amber light will. It will help some but your still going to get some glare.
Jeep `N Nation I understand that man. just comes down to how often you need virus the cost
Kevin England these ones I'm running are $106 a pair shipped on Amazon. I can't remember if I got a video of them poster in my channel or not.
So many choices!
LOL... The amber is the only choice for me!
But how they perform on Dust?
Actually amber or 3,000k yellow light have a different wavelength than 5,000-6,000k and is able to penetrate particles in the air that may defuse the light better.
You could just get amber LEDs for the stock fog lights, that's ultimately what fog lights were designed for.
Son37Lumiere any suggestions of the brand Amber LEDs? Not the yellow ones though. Thanks!
pretty disappointed there hasnt been a video showing driving in these conditions
Hey man. I have been searching everywhere.. I can’t find any. Can you help me to find 3x3 amber flood led pod?
rough country website
The amber LED looks a lot like old-style (LPS) streetlights, the amber cover looks like the modern non-LED (HPS) streetlights, and the white LED looks like LED streetlights.
Thanks, this helped me alot. I was going to buy the lens covers and the rigit light. But now I will go with a dedicated amber light. I live in central coast California and fog is something we just put up with here so amber light will definitely help.
IMHO the best light for snow/dust driving would be Rigid SAE white with the amber cover. Have you seen the amber light output? it's worst than the output of them cheap copycat lights. Why not just slap on the amber lense cover and then remove the cover during spring/summer
Please checkout Rigid Selective Yellow lights. Curious to get your opinion.
Amber lens on a white light equals selective yellow which is still great
The amber SAE fog light pods are actually selective yellow and not amber like the flood pod in this video
Wich would you recomend for fog? The actual amber or the amber covers?
Actual Amber is better.
can the amber pods be used on road without blinding othrr drivers? also can you recommend a rear fog light for on road use?
They are not DOT legal, so I only use my under extreme condition on road. They sell a couple smaller pods you could use for the rear: amzn.to/2kB4uid
Do you have a recommendation for on road front ambers?
Good video
Thank you!
Yellow have a different wave modulation
Turn some of your lights off in dust and snow and achieve the same thing. Sometimes less light is better.
The dust and fog would always affect white lights.
HALOGEN. !!!!! 3200k is a great temp for what your talking about. LED and especially the temps higher than 5000k may be bright but it doesn't mean they are better.
So, why would somebody get the amber lights if they aren't as bright? Somebody please explain. Are they better in fog and dust or are they just cool looking. I am ignorant on this subject.
But why? You add lights to see better, that's the point
So what we have learned here is that white is the best color and all other colors are insuperior
Is not the color., but the wavelength
Get yourself a microphone so you don't have to yell so much
logik23 hahahahahaaaaaaaaa 😂👍🏻
Drive it in the dust...
buy american.
Why are you yelling
