  • In this video I focus on comparing the build and design differences between Flysurfer's new Hybrid 2.5m versus the Peak5 2.5m. These are very different kites. My extensive review of the Hybrid will be my next video.

Thanks….Highly interested to see a Hybrid Test on Twintip.

Thanks for posting, the review was very helpful.
Have you every tried to use either the Hybrid or Peak for kitesurfing waves. My guess is the Hybrid would be a better choice, certainly from a relaunch perspective.

The only thing the Hybrid does better than the Peak is drift and relaunch. Everything else the Peak wins handsdown. I mostly ride Hydrofoil in the surf and unless the wind is 30+, I rather use the Peak. Hybrid just isn't dynamic enough. Also the Hybrid produces MUCH less power than the Peak so you have to rig a much bigger size to ride in the same conditions as the Peak. Now if you are looking for a "park and fly" kite, the Hybrid is the way to go. It's pretty predictable in the air since it really doesn't move around much. For me though, the "kite" part of kiteboarding is just as important and I like a kite that is nimble and fun.

Can you elaborate on "better drift" for the hybrid? I ride Peak4's and 5's in their absolute low end - Peak5 6m 9-12 knots, Peak4 5m 12-15 knots. I ride them on a big foil frontwing, in waves, only using the kite to get on the wave and then letting go of the bar and relying only on the power of the wave to keep flying. Very often, I get several seconds of totally slack lines and a sagging bar. It is at these moments that the drift of the kites comes truly into play, and they do it well, but I have noticed that the Peak5 seems to hold its shape much better than the Peak4 - the latter often crumbles into a little ball in low low winds and totally slack lines, but then mostly recovers OK as soon as line tension is engaged (but not always, and then I have to swim). In conditions with more wind, like 15+ knots, this isn't really an issue anymore, so it is really a "pushing the low end" thing. If you have any experience on this type of riding in those sizes, and how the hybrid compares to the Peak5 in terms of holding its shape in low low winds and slack lines, I would be interested to hear it!

Sorry for the long delay, I had a paramotor accident a little over a month ago and still on the mend. The type of riding you are describing is what I do a lot and the Hybrid is better at maintaining its shape at 4 link slack than the Peak5. The Hybrid is pretty good at just sitting there, what I call a park and ride. I also have a Peak5 6m and I would say that it has a slightly better bottom end than the Hybrid 7.5 FYI.

Thanks for the comparison. A question about the "cross" bridle lines. Not sure if I fully understood the bridle design. They cross each other and so one is front of the other, right? Is there any concern for wearing of the lines as they slide past each other? Also, wouldn't this design be asymmetrical and the line behind could "pull" on the other line as you turn the kite?

They cross but they don't touch so no real wear. It's suppose to help reduce bar pressure I guess according to to FS. Frankly I'd have to get a hybrid out again since I haven't had one out of the bag since my accident which was end of December.
I never had any problem with switching safety sides or anything like that and didn't have to deal with any bridle tangles to see if this new setup makes it more difficult to undo. It reminds me somewhat of the Unity from like 6/7 years ago but that foils layout was insanely complex. Knowing FS I don't expect this to really be an issue on the Hybrid. Time will tell though.

Awesome! I'm haven't been out for awhile and wont most likely till summer now due to a paramotor accident. When I'm out I'm usually at the Jetties, just look for the guy riding the Flysurfers.

I find the peak5 2.5m to fast in the loops, specially in high wind. Is the hybrid 2.5m slower?

Yes the 2.5m Hybrid is slower than the Peak but it’s still pretty fast. You can still spiral it and it will backstall but not nearly as easily.

What was the wind strength I tried 2.5 in wind that was blowing 15 30 some times 35 I weight 150 pounds could not get it going on my foil kite had no grunt to get me up on Foil so I put up a five peak and way the fuck over powered on foil should I get four meter peak I used a eight meter peak in 7 to eleven love it I don’t even feel the kite when iam foiling most of the time don’t even hold bar
