For the sake of transparency, I'd like to clear up a little mistake I made in the video! Special moves aren't tied to your character 'level' during a fight, so ignore when I say that! Thanks to the person who reached out to me on Discord to let me know 🙏🏻
Part of what made this game so great was that it used characters from the comics and animated show before the movies came out. Spiral, Silver Samurai, and Omega Red are difficult to integrate into the movies, but have been in the comics for decades. As a long time fan, these are perfect choices.
Absolutely same. I was a huge Capcom fighting fan when I saw this game with all the X-Men characters and the villains and the gameplay and how loud it was with the speakers. It was insane
Same here dude. Seeing it for the first time was a revelation. I picked Wolverine and after playing for a bit some older guy challenged me, and I won! There was a small group of onlookers too. One of the coolest days of my life.
Just wanted to add, they did change the combo system to street fighter like when it came to the order of button. To weak>medium>high & punch>kick. So combos tend to go lp,lk,mp,mk,hp,hk. The HK canceled to LP would be OP.
Finally some love for COTA. Awesome video, as always. One thing that bugged me though - and I hate to be that guy - you mentioned how they got the original voice actors from X-Men TAS, which I loved by the way. Yet you show the wrong cartoon. You used clips from Pryde of the X-Men, the failed pilot. Funnily enough the Konami game was based on this single episode.
I still remember seeing the box art for this game on PC, at Myer no less! Very keen to see the playerbase increase when the collection drops =) Good stuff Khan
I find it interesting that you used Pryde of the X-Men footage when describing how the Canadian voice acting group made it in the show, given that cast was from the 1992 Fox show, and not the Pryde pilot.
You know I was into X-Men at the time and we usually got pretty crappy video games for marvel stuff with the best thing so far being the first Sega Genesis game and the Sega Genesis Spider-Man game. The X-Men arcade game was a cool spectacle but it was kind of basic which is to be expected of an arcade game. X-Men children of the atom with its crazy animation and amazingly comic accurate designs was a mind-boggling leap forward
I dunno who told you levels were tied to specials but they're lying to you turn on the game right now and you'll see at level 2 you get access to X-Ability, all special moves are available from the start of a round
This game is incredible. Great gameplay, graphics and presentation. It is my second favorite as Marvel Super Heroes is my favorite. It has such unique and fun mechanics.
Quick question: Why for the gameplay section if you were unsure about the mechanics and wanted to be informed you didn't reference the yt guide or ask the COTA discord?
I would argue this game is the best of the best vs capcom fighters. Plus wolverine has his healing factor move in this game. No other version of him does. The animation is amazing. The music is amazing. It’s everything that capcom games fail in modern times doing.

Also, Haggar can stun characters with his headbutt MvC3 if he gets a counter hit.

CHILDREN OF THE PEAK
Seeing this game in the arcades when I was a kid blew my comics/fighting game geek mind in a way I cant really fully describe.

That Joe Calamari excerpt has me imaging Children of The Atom with Shenmue Quality dubbing lol.
Loved the endings in this game. Wish XvsSF had some animated endings as well.

Seeing these types of video's got me more hyped for the mvc collection
Can't wait to play this game in the collection!
As a kid, I played MSH first. But Children of the Atom soon became one of my favorite games on the Saturn.

I played this in the arcades as a kid. 1994/5 was awesome. Right during the peak of the X-Men/Spiderman run on Fox Kids (UK) blew my 6 year old mind.
Children of the Atom walked so Mutant Academy can run.

You don't even need to turn on the game. Silver Samurai is doing shuriken loops with no meter in the video.
Marvel superheroes is the real goat

If we don't get mvc4... which is gonna likely happen, I'd settle for a Children of the Atom 2 👏(COTA2) Dang rolls of the tongue 😜
Cool video 😎
Its so sad to see such beautiful animation slowly over the various years and games, gets removed and cut, making the animations look cut and cheap

Still got love for the PS1 version of this game it was all I had if I didn't want to blow my allowance on the aracde
Man I love this shit
haven’t played this game but why does wolverine’s gameplay look so much saucier than in mvc 😭
approved by Joe Calamari
When’s MARVEL? 🤔
