Great lesson!!! It is new for me that we can add a GIF into the InDesign!!! How great, it gives more movement to the project! Thanks for sharing!!!!
Thanks Ione! Nice to hear from you!
Very useful and informative! Angelo is the best
Hi Angelo, I've been following you for a while now. I think it's cool that someone is promoting the *incredible* interactive powers of InDesign in designs that look totally modern. I feel that too many people assume that you can't do trendy design in ID. Thanks for your great work.
About this one--Really smooth! It never occured to me to paste an animation inside a frame. Definitely bookmarking this one :)
I am here to make Id cool! 😎
Thanks for the nice comments Maurice. In all seriousness, InDesign is as capable as Photoshop or Illustrator for print and web designs. It really comes down to what you feel comfortable with using as a designer. I think InDesign has always been known for being a print design app, whereas I want to show people you can get way more out of it.
Yes, the animation within a container is useful for Grow animations especially. Otherwise, the frame will grow in situations you don't want it to.
All the best!
Thx for the great tutorial
Glad you found it helpful. Thanks!
I have so much from you. Thanks alot.
I am so glad to hear. Thanks!
Is this working only with online publishing? Thank you for sharing indesign tips.
Hey there. Yes, or EPub. GIFs will not work in PDF (Interactive).
This might be a dumb question, but the online URL it creates, are you able to share that with others to review it? For instance, I'm working on an email layout that will include GIF's, and if I could have the entire layout URL shared with the animations of the GIFs showing - that'd be awesome. Right now I share a PDF/JPG, and then attach GIF's to be reviewed separately. So, it's a little clunky for my leaders to review everything "at once."
No such thing as dumb questions! 🙂
As of now, the only way to share the project for review is publishing it online so the GIFs are still functional, and sharing the link with stakeholders. However, there's no side panel like you'd see in PDF review where you can leave comments. But, yes you can share the link once it's been published. Does that answer your question?
@@AngeloMontilla yes, that answered my question - thank you!!
👍
Does it work only when online? In downloaded version does it still animates?
If by downloaded version, you mean PDF, then no it won't work. GIFs are only supported for Publish Online or EPub (Fixed Layout).
Still sucks that Adobe PDFs don't support animated GIFs.
Publishing to an Adobe-hosted web doc has never been an viable option for me or any of my clients.
With digital publishing becoming more prevalent, my hope is publish online option allows for more self-hosting and sharing features. But I think gone are the days were animation works for PDF.
