Gil Gerard? Erin Gray was the real attraction for fans, and unsurprisingly the second season quickly cratered when the new producers reduced her role in the show. She was a stunner as a 28-year-old, and she's still a beautiful woman at 72.
Agreed. Her role and position within the story was greatly diminished. And besides her looks, fans loved the fact that she was a strong character. Same with Ardala, and Marla Landers.
The difference in roles between the two seasons is beyond startling. She went from ultra-cool Colonel with a commanding appearance to...I dunno, a flight attendant in space. That ship they were on was also a rehashed ship from the Galactica fleet...
Erin Grey! What a honey! Beautiful, dignified, graceful moves, fine timing. Excuse me while I swoon, just like when we first saw her. And from what I’ve heard about how she’s helped her Buck R cast members commercialize their past TV fame, a sharp businesswoman as well. But we all know there was a fine brain to go with that shape and smile, did we not? Love you Colonel Deering!
How could they not mention Princess Ardala? What a beauty. Any episode with her was my favorite. However, the coolest moment was when they had Buster Crabbe appear as a fighter pilot to help Buck Rogers -playing a character named Gordon,of course. " "Where'd you learn to shoot like that?" ?"Son,I've been doing that since before you were born." "You think so?" "Young man,I know so."
The interactions between the two were some of the greatest and most meorable nods to the actor and to the character I have ever seen! And it was more than just a brief cameo. He got some decent screen time and his character helped make a difference!
This was my favorite TV show when I was a kid. I remember having my mom rush me home after soccer practice so I wouldn't miss an episode. I was really bummed when NBC cancelled the show.
I was a big fan of Buck Rogers. And I was absolutely in Love with Erin Gray. Her hair, her eyes, that smile and those tight colorful pantsuits, she owned me. I often wondered where she went because I'm sure I have seen what other projects she appeared in. They just don't have Girls like her anymore. She always seemed to be sparkling and new looking, she was so alive. She was my ideal for a Girlfriend. I wish her all the best.
After Battlestar was canceled(my favorite show at the time) Buck was definitely my favorite at that time, but I had to go to bed before I could see the second part of the pilot episode. It wasn't until reruns that I got to see the whole thing. Bought the whole series on DVD and still occasionally watch it streamed. Looks dated by today's standards, but every time I watch it, it takes me back to that time, those days and I remember.
There is a new Blu Ray set with additional footage in the pilot movie that isn't on the DVD set. It looks great by the way. Amazon has it for 54.99 just in time for Christmas!
Its so devastating what addictions can do to people, Gil Gerard is lucky to still be alive. That massive weight gain and loss could have easily proved fatal.
Gil is one of my favorite actors because he was always so affable on-screen. He seemed like a friendly version of Lee Majors. HOWEVER, the main reason I watched the show was that my girlfriend, Pamela Hensley, played Princess Ardala on the show. What a knockout! The thinner Gil looks great! All good wishes to the entire cast!
Sure you did. Hensley married musician and record producer Wes Farrell in 1978, and they divorced in 1980. She has been married to noted television executive producer E. Duke Vincent since 1982. So unless you are one of them.. which I'm fairly certain you are not, you either had an affair with her, which I doubt, or your a liar and full of shit, which I suspect. If your going to tell a lie at least try to make it a plausible one.
I admit I wasn't as loyal to Buck Rogers as I was to Battlestar Galactica back in the '70s, but man I loved the shows intro. Um, I'm a little blown away here... I had no idea what happened to Gil Gerard! Sure am glad he got through all that! Great video, thank you! 👍🙂
Buck and Hawk were so good looking back then. I watched that show every week! My favorite episode was when they met Hawk. It was sad when he lost his mate and then he joined the team. Hawk became good friends with Buck. I too was sadden back then when they canceled the show.
SACRILEGE! You didn't include Pamela Hensley in your presentation. As Princess Ardala, she was the only actress who could challenge (Note: I said challenge) Erin Grey for the top spot as the most beautiful woman to appear on the show. She was deliciously evil in her role as the perpetual "bad girl" - always trying to drag Buck to the alter, while hoping to destroy the earth. And those (heh, heh!) near outfits she wore on the series drove me and the rest the guys in the dorm room wild! I think you should also have mentioned the fact that Buster Crabb, the original Buck Rogers, made an appearance in an episode. I knew who he was when I saw it, and added a nice layer to the show, linking the TV series and the movie serial together.
Princess Ardala’s fascination with Buck Rogers reminds me of Queen Maxima’s fascination with Superman. Both are sexy royalty who are used to getting what they want. Except the fact that the ones they want already like different women. Buck Rogers was one of my favorite shows when I was a boy and I’m glad that I have old classic tv channels to watch it now.👍🏾
The Buster Crabbe joke worked on so many levels. Buck Rogers, having spent 500 years in suspended animation, was "older" than any other human. But Crabbe was the first Buck Rogers in the old movie serials, so he had indeed been doing it before Gil Gerard was born. But the character Crabbe played in the episode was named Gordon - like in Flash Gordon, which actually appeared in comic strips before Buck Rogers was created, therefore, before Rogers was born. Crabbe also played Flash Gordon in movie serials, before playing Buck Rogers.
My favorite was "The Satyr". It's sad they took Buck off earth to do the Battlestar Gallacta thing and look for other humans because it totally changed the format of the show. They killed it.
Nobody EVER forgets Wilma Deering in that blue jumpsuit....Erin Gray was otherworldly beautiful! I loved this show as a kid back then.....got it on dvd, still love it.
My wife and I have the good fortune to meet Gil Gerard for extended conversations a couple times in the last few years before the quarantine. He's super friendly and an all-around class act.
I loved the show although i had to watch when my father wasnt around. One of my favorite things was Buck was he loved 3 dog Night. I hate that it didnt last longer. I hopped after 4 or 5 years Buck and Wilma would finally get in sync and get married.
My favorite episode was the pilot, the plot to kill a city, cosmic whiz kid, Vegas in Space, actually nearly all of season one was great. I even liked season two, but not as much as the first season. I own the DVDs so I watch them repeatedly. I loved Buck Rogers more than Battlestar Galactica. Gil Gerard was fantastic as Buck. And the lovely Erin Gray, wow!
I was so young when that show came out I don't remember specific details of any episodes but I remember the series pretty good on the same I loved it when I was a kid it was one of the first things that got me into sci-fi
Great! I tried to hate this series after first viewing it but "DAMMIT JIM" - it was/is so cheerful/cheesy it stays in the head, with enjoyment and fondness. And yes - we're getting the new family nippers tuned in (as with Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Lost in Space, Blakes 7 etc.). Plus 2 words - Wilma Deering - 'nuff said. Thank you.
I began watching this in Season 2 reruns, not knowing it was Season 2. My faves from this season are "Crystals" and "Testimony of a Traitor." My fave from Season 1 is "Space Vampire." "A Dream of Jennifer" had its moments, though Buck should've realized that if it was really her, she would be over 500 years old. Gil Rogers is so attractive in this show and is the main reason I still watch it, regardless of the episode plots, plus I totally love the opening and closing themes. And the nice, often tender interactions of the characters, especially in Season 2.
I didn't have a favorite but Ijust loved to watch the show, I wish they would make an updated version of the show with all the fire and emotion the old one had.
Great show then--and now‼️Erin Gray is a total fox‼️🌄I remember watching the reruns in 1987‼️You can buy the series and many others at CRITICS' CHOICE. I have Buck Rogers and many others. Silvers Spoons is another TV Show that stars Erin Gray. It ran for 5 years I believe. She modelled in Sports Illustrated in the late 1960's.
Had the pleasure of meeting both Gil Gerard and Erin Gray at the very first London comic con we went to back in 2009 they were absolutely sweet to talk to. Very charming and Erin is still as beautiful as ever. ❤❤❤
I haven't even thought about buck Rogers since watching it in the 80's as a kid, watching this vid blew me away because I always thought buck was Lee majors. 🤷🤦👍
I think the song they wrote for the end of the movie and show was very good. It describes how buck probably felt. I have just watched the one with the original Buck Rodgers movie serials and what he says to this Buck is a reference to him being Buck Back in the 30's serials. You were a little hard on Hawk. I thought that was an interesting Character to add and he was an interesting addition. His ship was cool too. And we can't forget Major Dearing. Beautiful but strong. You just had to love her. I did. You can watch both seasons on Tubi if anyone is interested. Buck was one of my heroes growing up and I wanted to be like him. So maybe some of the good in me and who I am as a person might be because I did want to be like him. Thanks Mr. Gerard for being my hero.
I used to watch this TV series called Buck Rogers And The 25th Century as there was a robot named Tweekie as it used to be on a Saturday afternoon around 6pm as I am dedicating this TV series called Buck Rogers And The 25th Century to my old school friends who are both sisters as I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris and Hester from Billyxxxxx
Tim O'Connor was great on Wonder Woman too. Only for a two part episode. I would have like to see a Wonder Woman TV movie with him and Lynda Carter since that's when his character was to return to earth.
Love the format of your vids. Good research. Good info. Smooth fades. Audio voice overs perfect levels. Perfect short channel info placement after the hook. Nice graphic usage. Good job. Keep up the great work! P.s. Device resolve much? Haha.
Like many young boys from the 80s, I had a big crush on Erin Gray. I ended up naming one of my daughter's after her lol. My wife always wonders how i came up with that name lol
loved buck rogers when i was a kid, i started a facebook group called buck rogers in the 25th century fans we have just under 1,900 members, i've shared this vid to the group
For a brief time in my childhood, this show was at the pinnacle of my television viewing. I remember being amazed & awestruck when Buck and the robots walked through the ruins of post-apocalyptic Chicago. AND I had the biggest crush on Erin Gray and continued to find her amazingly attractive into my adulthood! Pamela Hensley- Princess Ardala- was quite sexy as well!
Erin Gray was the reason I watched. Being a teen in the late 70's definitely a celebrity crush for me along with Catherine Bach, Lynda Carter and Jaclyn Smith
I did see the original pilot episode in the theater, loved it from the opening credits, my favorite show was the first meeting with Princess Ardala, Buck was so cool, you could see he had a plan forming, I myself would have been on her like a starving rat on a cheeto.
Oh mate love the reviews those times and memories watching the tv show Buck Rogers were just innocent times for me how sweet they were! Send me back on a time machine get me out of this crazy 2000ish period!
People who act in tv and movies are just that…people. They are human and subject to all the same diseases, tragedies, addictions and the ravages of aging and bad behaviors as everyone else. But unfortunately we, as viewers, tend to see and remember them forever frozen as they were in their screen role. I really liked the show and especially Gil Girard.
Saw it in the Theatre, and when it was available to rent on VHS, I rented it and never returned it, which made my parents angry because they then had to pay for the value of the video which back then was 89.99. Still watch some of the old episodes in reruns. Always liked the show.
My favourite must be the one with the original actor who played Buck Rogers Buster Crabbe his famous line in it Buck has a moment I remember " I've be doing this since before you was born " Buck smiles and answer "Sure you have? " . But the episode I think is best is the last it ended but left it open for Buck to return someday of this course isn't possible but who can say that a new version isn't on the horizon a new trilogy a new beginning same pilot different century it could be done a massive retelling of a classic movie of yesterday for the future Buck Rogers retro hero?
Me and my best friend seen it at the theater. (Detroit area) It was jam-packed too. We absolutely loved it. We even went back and watched it again. It had everything, including Princess Ardala!! But we had NO IDEA!! It was a fall TV show, until we seen the commercials for the fall line up. Blew our minds! Still a fun show to watch, all these years later.
We were so lucky in the 70s, Susan Anton, Catherine Bach, Jane Kennedy, Erin Gray, Pamela Hensley, Maren Jensen (Battlestar Galactica) , Cheryl Ladd, Lynda Carter, Jane Seymour,Farrah Fawcett , Jaclyn Smith and Dorothy Stratten !!!!!! Remember Dorothy in Cruise Ship to the Stars episode of Buck Rogers? These young guys today have Miley Cyrus, fat assed Kardashian women and a bunch of tattoo and ridiculously pierced women.
I still own both my Corgi Toys Starfighters from the series, sadly minus the Buck & Twiki figures. One has the sprung wings and fires red missiles, the other is the "Juniors" version which only has retractable wings
i remember seeing the pilot in the theatre, ..as a kid i was deeply in love with Erin Grey ;-).....I hope they would make a decent remake like they did with Galactica. Tom Ellis as Buck Rogers....Katee Sackhoff as Wilma Deering, Olga Kurylenko as Princess Ardala.
Gil Gerard? Erin Gray was the real attraction for fans, and unsurprisingly the second season quickly cratered when the new producers reduced her role in the show. She was a stunner as a 28-year-old, and she's still a beautiful woman at 72.

Before yong boys developed a desire for girls, had the hots for Erin. She also played a upscale envy, as the Comamander role.

I remember watching the show many years ago. I loved it!
I also loved the show I couldn't remember why they took it off.
No Princess Ardala? You're slipping, Nick.
Maybe because she died in 2021? Or the episode dedicated to her he put together.
Gil is one of my favorite actors because he was always so affable on-screen. He seemed like a friendly version of Lee Majors. I met Lee Majors in 1976 when I was nine years old. It was at some event in Key Largo FL. He is a friendly nice guy as well.
You dated Pamela Hensley...seriously?
Sure you did. Hensley married musician and record producer Wes Farrell in 1978, and they divorced in 1980. She has been married to noted television executive producer E. Duke Vincent since 1982. And the episode I like is the return of the retired squadron with Peter Graves
Good choice, just watched it in blu ray last night!!! One of my favorites is Space Vampire, Erin was smoking in that one !!!
Space Vampire....it's one of my favorites.
Wasn't she absolutely smoking in that episode?
That was the very first episode that i saw in colour on a TV....everything previous to that was in black and white.
@@eac1235 She was!...................hot damn! I need to watch them again.

Princess Ardala is most likely the reason why i favor brunettes instead of blondes.
Princess Ardala’s fascination with Buck Rogers reminds me of Queen Maxima’s fascination with Superman. Both are sexy royalty who are used to getting what they want. @@rogerrabbit80 Very good information! I already knew most of this - I'm a film buff - so it is nice to find a kindred spirit here.
the show came out in 79 not 87, When I was 9 and not 17. I loved Erin Grey she was my first crush.
They were referring to when Bucks ill fated flight was . Not the year it came out. Remember the introduction.... In the year 1987.......
Still watching it and it's still my favorite
My favorite was "The Satyr". It's sad they took Buck off earth to do the Battlestar Gallacta thing and look for other humans because it totally changed the format of the show. They killed it.

Oh mate love the reviews those times and memories watching the tv show Buck Rogers were just innocent times for me how sweet they were! Send me back on a time machine get me out of this crazy 2000ish period!
Erin Grey is one of the great beauties in TV history. Seems like she's aged quite gracefully as well --- lovely woman!
I still remember the Vorvon episode (the Space Vampire).. Best of the Buck Rogers episodes.
I watch the show on the night it was on to see Erin. She was so fine and fantastic. Her costume didn’t hurt either.😎
Last thing I remember Erin in was a tv version of Starman
The space vampire, and the space dwarves we're mine.
Space Vampire was my fav episode!
I'm not trying to be funny when I say this, but when he up to 300 lbs he looked like Elvis just before he died. I'm glad he got the weight off.
I think Gil Gerard ate twikki the robot. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
Buck Roger's was too short. I loved that series
Erin gray! Those suits were SO TIGHT !!!
Erin Gray made me forget about Linda Carter.... for a few days.
They were both in MeTV's Saturday lineup until Wonder Woman was canceled.
Erin Gray was drop dead gorgeous 😍 such a beautiful woman.
Erin Gray is still very beautiful today!!!!!!!!!!
Loved this show growing up back in the 80s. I actually liked the entire cast. Tho as a young kid Twinki was my favorite. Twinki was a little badass.
Nice video. I would have also enjoyed some background on the villains in the series as well.
She was so beautiful, the reason I watched the show.
Aaaah yes Wilma, first crush. Ha ha ha
58 am still think that this sci-fi show should be run again❤❤❤❤
Needs to be remade great show 👌 👏
Have met, Gil Gerrard, Erin Grey, Tim O'Connor and Felix Silla, all lovely people
@2:03, truly impressive stunt work.
What a great show....twiggy 👍 miss the robot 🤖
Erin Gray has a gorgeous derrière !!!!!
Wow 87 thought it wss earlier than that . Never watched it , guess I was had grown past that , by then. Always thought Erin Gray was pretty.
It was 1979 I think - 1987 was the year that Buck was launched in the storyline.
I was thinking the Same thing so I Wikipedia it and it says September 20, 1979 to April 16, 1981.

Okay I think I understand what you mean.
Thanks
The storyline was set initially in 1987 but the show aired in ‘79 :)
