    I grew turmeric last year for the first time. Here in TX it didn't start coming up until July so don't give up on it thinking it's dead. I dug one pot and sent some roots to my sister and my daughter. This is one of the most beautiful plants to grow in the garden. Now I have to repot my other pots. I wanted to wait and see when you do yours. I guess it must be time. Thanks for all the tips you give us to make our gardens successful.

    How do you prepare the pots to plant them? What do you put in the pots as soil? How many hands do you put in each pot? Can they withstand a freeze? I live in the high desert.

      I am not sure where you are, try a Organic type store you may have better luck. I will say, the 99cent store ones sprouted for my friend, but did not grow at all after that,those were shipped in from out of the country and treated, like some yams are. Take care

    Timely post! Just bought some organic Ginger and turmeric from Walmart. I was fairly successful last year with the second planting. The first got rained on too much and rotted. A smaller pot will definitely be a game changer. How deep does it have to be? My guess is as deep as you want it to fill with rhizomes🤔🙃. My pots last year were so wide they were hard to care for. Thanks Robbie.
    I didn't forget to eat what I grew. 🤣It was so much hotter than the ones in the store.

    When you first plant them do you put sticks and leaves in the bottom of the pots and top with a little soil like you do with totes? Or do you put all soil in the pots?
    I have my ginger and turmeric to plant. I'm really glad you mentioned putting them in a pot instead of a tote. I have lots of pots!

    Hi Guys! You three are so cute! I have been looking for grocery store ginger since last year, but got a hot tip on turmeric, that people say its good for joint pain. So I looked again on line, found a processed powder. Tasts kinda icky. Are you sure he eats it fresh like a carrot ? So I am trying to take it Like a fast shot, then, relax with a cup of chicken broth. Gotta try looking again, I suppose stuff will be flying of the shelves faster these days . OOH I was going to ask you about Stevia, is that like these roots? Did you start with seed or plant? Thans again !

    Do you have any African supermarkets near you? I went to one today here and they still had unsold African yams from last year. They are shriveled more but already sprouting out the end just like your Ginger nodules. It might be a new experiment to put one in a tote and see if you can get true yam growing. I picked one up for my garden next to the bean trellis rows I have one small spot left in the garden.

    Hi Robbie! Quick question cause I'm just getting started with container gardening for the first time. How deep of a layer of soil do you put on top of your kitchen scraps before you plant? Do you dig down into the scraps to place live plants? Thank you!

    • @blueroses-dianef.8083
      @blueroses-dianef.8083 2 роки тому +1

      Hi Dream Weaver my name is Diane I am in Pennsylvania when I set up my containers I did it like Robbie with the sticks and leaves and they kitchen scrapes I put about 6 inches of potting soil in top of them food scraps and planted in the potting soil that is on top of the scraps the food scraps will feed your plants as it breaks down. Hope this helped with your questions.👍🌱

    Hi from Australia. I only very recently found you. Wish I had found you at the beginning of our Summer. I have had a quick browse of your videos and thanks for your tips. I have tried to grow these in the garden with no success. Not sure if I over water, but I am sure my soil is of very poor quality. Hope to fix that over the coming months as I see you have videos to help. Gees I wish our ginger was sold for $1.99 as our supermarkets sell it for $35 Aussie dollars a kilo !!!
    Do you have any organic ways to stop plants being overcome with caterpillars? Most of my herb crop were eaten by them.

    How do you eat your turmeric? We consume a lot of ginger, we put them in stir fries, soups, porridge, etc. It is funny how you end up with more soils than you started! In terms of growing them, do you put them in full sun all day or partial sun? Do you water them every day during summer time? is your soil well drained or soil that hold on to a lot of water. I will start growing them again if I can remember where I stored them... :)

    • @RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy

    If your store doesn't carry it try finding a heath food store or a co-op .
