  • When you buy an e-bike, size matters. You want to be able to straddle the bike when stopped. You want to have the right leg extension for comfortable riding. You want to have the right distance from saddle to handlebars to allow for less strain on your back. And you might even want to pay attention to your ability to mount and dismount the bike.
Lloyd takes you through all the issues, and explains how to properly measure the bike. Of course, any professional bike shop should bring up these issues and help you with your selection. However, many folks are buying in chain stores or online where it can be very difficult to determine if sizing is right for their body. This video should help.
If you live near Ontario California, please come in and we'll help you get the perfect e-bike for your needs, including the right size. If you are not in our area, you can purchase your Aventon e-bike online by using the following link.

This was super helpful - thank you! I was looking at a semi recumbent but I think a step through makes more sense for my mobility issues.

I think step thru bikes are the safest frame type, think about a situation where you might need to get off and away from your bike ASAP due to an incoming vehicle or object, step thru bikes are the only ones that will allow for the quick manuevers. Also good for if you find yourself on an uneven ground or hilly areas and have to stop suddenly, otherwise you could fall off your bike and seriously injure yourself.

Step thru is also handy for delivery riders to not have to shake the bike around getting on and off with added weight

I just bought a burchda rx80. I have an inside leg of 31" and am 6ft. I looked at the tyre size mentioned 26 inches x 4 and then drew a line across the picture of the bike to see if I had clearance.... WRONG MOVE.
The wheel diameter is measured as around 28 inches so it's pretty tight when standing over The biggest issue I think will be swinging my leg over anything carried on the rear rack as that is going to be higher than the seat. My other bike is a 2023 lithium3 700c x 40 large frame hybrid. This has more top bar clearance despite not being sloped.
I did test ride a cyrusher kuattro which was similar length and similar minimum seat height so I knew it was big. I did have an extra inch on my shoes when I tried it out and I suspect once I've moved the seat back a little should just about get away with it. 🤞🏻

I’m only 4’11” and find that when I have to stop, I’m on tip toe and don’t feel very steady. Wish bikes were made to fit us little legged ladies.

You might have to go to a shop and check in person. Crazy part is Store bikes are +$3,500 but online they are only $1,300 to $1,900

Your height does make it harder to find the proper size. One suggestion is to learn to get off the seat every time you stop. Best way to describe is that one foot on a pedal the other on the ground as you stop. Novice riders want to stay sitting when they stop, if the seat is at the proper height tip toe is right. I hope this helps, my wife is 5’0” and has the same problem with most bike not even able to lower the seat for this. Good luck

Size matters on all bikes, it's not more important for ebikes.

The large fits people 5’10” and taller. So the best fit for you is the large
