If I remember correctly, the majority of hangun bullet deaths are not immediate, but from bleeding out. This round looks like it could potentially expedite that, since each of those petals going in a different direction would increase the likelihood of a severed artery.

    • @markymark9961
      @markymark9961 2 роки тому +4

Perhaps. Depends upon certain factors. Those petals create wound channels which are comparatively shallower and smaller in diameter and from the many gunshot victims I have seen, swelling occurs quickly further narrowing those channels. Many were not frontal torso hits as with this testing. My own preference is a bonded bullet that provides the penetration and expansion desirable by FBI standards. They are deemed more knowledgeable than most. Hence the mass flight back to 9mm by many law enforcement agencies. A true tale of two shootings with an unrelated caliber, the 5.56, illustrate while each shooting is unique. Our tactical team was tracking an attempted murder suspect in a heavy wooded area in the summer. The perpetrator earlier attempted to kill his wife with 12 gauge #4 shot at almost point blank range. He hit the pillar and headrest and miraculously his wife escaped injury. They encountered the suspect who had secreted himself in the canopy of a large fallen tree and was firing at their position. He was exposing only his lower body. An officer fired hitting him once in the right testicular and the bullet continued out his left buttock. He was shot with a 55 grain bonded soft point. That was the only target of opportunity. Not center of mass but a one shot stop none the less since the suspect disarmed himself and was screaming in agony for help. In another case a wanted murder suspect was being sought and was subsequently encountered by a patrol officer at a park and ride. The officer called for back up without the suspects knowledge he was being surveilled. Unfortunately, before back up arrived the suspect attempted to leave the area. The officer blocked his vehicle and an exchange of gunfire ensued. The officer struck the suspect in the cell phone which was in his chest pocket. He fired two more follow up shots hitting the suspect in the abdomen. The first shot failed to enter the chest cavity the second two immediately incapacitated the suspect with devastating injuries, including the loss of some intestine and bladder resulting in a colostomy. That suspect was shot within a 77 grain OTM that was designed to fragment. Since then we have moved to 55 grain bonded jacketed soft point bullets. You never know.

For sure a bad day for mr.jackboy. If even one of those trail cars spreads in the chest area you immediately got maybe 12 months to get that looked at before hosanna or sumn come get you

For the past several years I have been having horrible nights. A bunch of cursed melons had been popping up randomly in my home through the nights. No matter what I did, they would keep coming back. I drove them across town and left them in a parking lot, I threw them over a cliff, I cut them up and put them in the disposer. Well, I got some of this ammo, took them out to the desert and took care of them. Haven't seen any melons since then. Thank you so much for this great video. It saved my life.

Bill P the idea of this is to make sure they don’t make it to the ER... if you get hit with this you most likely will bleed out internally especially with 6 projectiles splitting off in multiple directions. And don’t forget one but projectile going deeper, so overall this ammo is great for self defense because I guarantee you that the attacker that is attacking you will stop moving towards you if he or she gets hit with this. When I first saw the R.I.P. cartridge on the internet and how it performed, I had to wonder what it would be like to be a survivor of a hit from one of those in the E.R. The surgeons would be chasing all those wound channels from the petals all through your body. It would be a nightmare for the surgeons, and much worse if you took more than one hit. I like the idea of the R.I.P., but for now am carrying hollow points. More expansion, better weight retention, bigger wound channel. Even if my hollow point does get clogged up with clothing, the .40 will still do it's job.

The officers used Glock 22’s and shot the suspect around 20 times with Speer Gold Dot 180gr and he survived the initial gunfight. He wasn’t high on drugs, but it was actually the multiple jackets that slowed and clogged the rounds down. It took 62gr .223 to finally incapacitate him with ankle shots. Definitely a crazy situation!

Great testing gents!! Dad had rough 7.62X25 Tokarev, looked like hell, but couldn't miss. Only 4 so not too pretty sharp, 1st pistol ever shot, but KO'd 3 rats in row. Dad told me old pistol was magic! Later '54 dragged to 1st Army 9th Armored Div reunion where we was mobbed. WW2, Dad took bridge over Rhine w/BAR, Ammo Carrier, 2400rnds in drag bag, 12 grenades, and twice liberated Tokarev. At bridge liberated 2 Kraut rain ponchos, slipped in behind 2200+ man army retreating to defend bridge, shot off rear corners of formation on single-shot, when last 80 or so looked back, rest of formation sleepin' on bridge, so bailed into RR tunnel in far bank. Counterattacked thrice but repelled each time, using grenades + pistol for last as BAR melted. 50 or so left + 70 Remagen Civilians became Prisoners. 2 hrs later, rest of 1st Army appeared & Dad captured by Lt as Enemy Infiltrator in U.S. Uniform. Next AM, Dad rescued by phone call from Ike Supreme Commander as Gen of 1st Army Hoge was preparing Execution Order to end his career. Dad was PFC in 1st Army 9th Armored, but had been on loan to Monte in Africa, then Ike on D-Day training for all Allied Troops + Sherman had just blown sht outta bridge deck at far tower where Dad stripping demo charges out to preserve bridge. Dad & Uniform decimated, so hard to recognize. Hoge shocked when found executing his own man, & to make matters worse Ike asked him how his G2 film on bridge taking was coming along! Hoge replied, "Film has just been cancelled General". At Reunion, they all had to touchie feelie the Tokarev Magic Pistol, & none of them mentioned it looked like piece of junk as just may have saved their own lives! Significance was Ike had been noticed of Manhattan, so sent Dad, "Emergency - End War Now" message. Dad not educated man, so only thing could think of was take bridge NOW, attack heart of Germany, Hitler surrenders! I was at White House when Ike told Dad his taking of bridge shaved at least 6 mos off end of war, Germans & Japs both had their "Trinity Tests", & Japs agreed to share Sub Launchers with Hitler who would share Nuclear Materials with Japs. Nukes were nearly trialed in London, NYC, D.C., L.A.& San Fran, instead of Japan! Good little Tokarev...you so purdy!!! AND: Historians to this day can't finger out how bridge taken w/no G.I.s lost...Good Little Tokarev!!! Erwin out....

People say this is a crap round for self defense, however people don't necessarily consider the physics. Say that this round delivers X amount of energy downrange, people get overly concerned about penetration, "This only goes in 12" and won't do enough damage, it doesn't create as long a wound channel in the ballistics gel, it's worthless.". Consider the fact that the X amount of energy in this moving projectile is fully expended in ONE target, one body. If you have a bullet that punches a 20" hole in gel, you lose a large amount of the energy (proportional to stopping power) in the bullet that continues on out of the target. You may have a .40 S&W that delivers 1.5X amount of damage, but only half of that is expended in the target, giving you .75X worth's of damage as opposed to the G2 R.I.P. ammo's 1X worth's. Not to mention it is safer in the case of accidental injury from over-penetration. It's all science.

    • @rodx5571
      @rodx5571 6 років тому +4

Expending 100% of the kinetic energy delivered by a round is the general idea of shooting someone IF necessity dictates they be shot. So i am in agreement with your assessment Jake. Other factors not generally touched on in these vids or by the commenters (i am sure you are aware of this) is that the human body being mostly water, at the point of impact a hydraulic shock is sent through the surrounding soft tissue causing capillary burst, as well as secondary tissue damage. Even a small round such as the .380 (my EDC BTW) that delivers 100% of its kinetic energy upon impact in this RIP or even a Hydrashok, or a ballistic tip hollow-point is far superior to any FMJ round for self defense. I actually prefer the ballistic tip rounds in mine for the above stated reasons. Sure i may have to mop up more blood in the living room if a burglar pays a visit, but i prefer there not be an exit wound, dont want to hit the big screen TV and i have ceramic tile floors.

      @roadking6414 2 місяці тому

Agree. I'm no ballistic expert, but I can understand your point. When the bullet doesn't pass through, the target absorbs 100% of the energy. Lower risk of the bullet passing through and possibly hitting something else.

Interesting part of the RIP round. The bottom part (the one going through the melons and what not not the trocars), is the driving force OF the trocars. It pushes the trocars through the air, then when the trocars STOP and the base is moving still does it break the trocars as the base keeps going, this causes it to launch the petals. This simply means the petals lose their driving force and as such stop pretty quickly regardless of the medium they are in, but ONLY after a certain Foot pound and energy threshold to snap them occurs. This means they won't separate in low strength mediums like denim and maybe drywall and such. But they WILL expand on human flesh and organs when under the hydrostatic shock. People seem to confuse the trocars stopping after 3 to 5 inches in ballistics gel as being to weak penetration in a person.
I guess they think the 15 inches of gel being equal to 3 to 5 inches in a person means the pellets that stop in 2 to 5 inches won't even penetrate an inch in a person.
But I have seen people shoot through PIG RIBS and MEAT after 4 layers of denim and it does just what it does in gel. It expands after hitting the bone, and pens 3 to 5 inches with the petals after and keeps going. Aka it pens while the trocars are bending, then they get thrown off and act like high drag needles that stop when they start turning sideways. Little torpedos that stop after their get too much drag force on them.
That was shown when it penned the denim AND bone AND meat, AND then went into the gel and stopped about as far as before give or take an inch.
So this means, the petals will actually penetrate roughly the same in a humans as it does the gel, unlike what people would expect.
Essentially people assume the round has low pen because the police want 15 or 16 inches of pen. RIP. Round requires a certain amount of energy to cause it to fracture and once that's achieved the fracture happens. Humans ARE NOT 15 or 16 inches that is true, but that round seems just fine going through pig and bird bones and still through ballistics gel and meat after(another youtuber did pigs).
I guess people with terrible aim, who fear shooting peoples hands for some reason think a solid expanding hollow point won't ALSO flatten out early in the bones of the hand and then hit the wall of air after the human hand and arm?
Like, won't a 9mm round expanding to like 14mm also travel 1 foot through air THEN try to pen someone's ribs after?
At least when the rip round goes through someone's arm, it leaves behind its trocars as pin needles each with .04 width at 1250 speed with decent spread destroying the hand and arm completely while remaining its now actually SMALLER than 9mm self. Those trocars then leave the arm and shred into the body behind it with 8 needles that slip through the ribcage and into the lungs and heart, while the base cracks the ribs and fractures the bones.
It seems like if I did plan on shooting someone's elbow and forearm, I would want a round that was more likely to MISS the other bones and just go into organs after than the 14mm expanded 9mm round that is highly likely to hit 1 or 2 ribs at once and just completely stop with no more damage done.
I don't know. I just kinda thought the ability to avoid the bones and just take out the organs would yield a better result if we are using low power handguns. Why did I bring a hand gun and not a shotty or rifle if I was going to have bad shot placement AND need to penetrate terrain/obstructions/armors AND multiple bones at once.

In my 380 my first round is a G2 Rip (loaded in chamber). The rest of my magazine filled with Hornody Critical Defense. I would be firing at least 2 shots to defend myself anyway. Figure it's the best of both worlds. People claim it's a gimmick round but as others have said I certainly wouldn't want to be hit by one. But I find my 380 does not feed them smoothly due to their sharp edges. This is a common problem for RIP rounds. Make sure you test a magazine or two before to make sure they feed properly.

I've tried many in my pocket carry .380 ACP BUGs.
I keep coming back to old school original Cor-Bon JHP, Speer Gold Dots and Hornady Critical Defense.
These work well in my GLOCK G-42 FDE frame, Kahr P-380 stainless Premium, Sig Sauer P-238 Nitron, Colt Mustang Pocketlite stainless, Kimber Desert Night Micro 380m and Ruger LCP II.........
What more can you want? Except 6+1 of .380 ACP JHP in the size of .25 ACP and .22 LR pistols of the past......
I still have two Beretta 950 Jetfires in .25 ACP. One is stainless or "Inox" and the other is blued. I stopped carrying them when they were discontinued and the small micro .380s started coming out. I still love them too for pocket carry backup pistols. They function flawless in .25 ACP and are very accurate too.

This is a home defense round and more than just effective; since only idiots depend on one round to drop an attacker. Any body shot below the rib cage will stop the attack, and two hits dead. This round has much less chance to harm anyone outside of your apartment. I'm sure that a shot directed to the groin will remove the package and shred the femoral artery ...

I think NOBODY has ever seen any round do a better job on a ballistics gel. The immediate splitting apart into many wound channels right out the gate upon entry! That right there is going to busy the paramedics crew and force them to tell the perp that his chances don't look so good. All from a simple light cheap round in a tiny frame daily conceal carry gun that can hold a good number of rounds. Ammo cheap enough to allow you to shoot daily comfortably. No recoil flinch. keep target in sight picture. Deadly perfect perfect perfect. BRAVO! I'm sold!

This is a 62 grain bullet don’t expect it to go far into anything without tearing apart. Most .380 rounds are 90-110 grain bullets which have a lot more momentum due to the mass of them. (Edit) Also they’re hollow points I bet a heavier hollow point would make it through. Although the .380 seems to have problems expanding those heavier JHP so it probably isn’t a fair test.

With the work I do, you always have to be aware of over penetration, and possible unintentional victims in the background due to and over penetration. This round GREATLY reduces those chances. Yes you still have to be aware of possible unintentional victims in the background as you ALWAYS should.

Yes, this round does what it is designed to do. The problem is that what it was designed to do is not as good as what standard hollow points already do.
The round looks cool. Yes. But I would be concerned about malfunctions feeding. Also, looks do not translate into performance but they do translate into premium prices.
If I were to carry a ,380 I think the Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrator in 380 is a very good choice. Just my opinion.
10 inches of penetration is just not going to do it. I don't want to get hit with one but for self defense I'd feel much more comfortable with more penetration in gel (12+, 15 ideal, over 18 a little much but better more than less.) Also, the wound left behind by that round seems much smaller than the wound left behind by more standard hollow points.
All that aside, thank you for the video. Good work. Keep em coming! Pew!! Pew!!

That would not surprise me. In my personal experiences with .380s some of them are really picky about ammo shape. Mine (a ppk clone) eats anything you put into it. My best friend's sig only shoots hollow points and round noses, and will not reliably feed a flat point FMJ. My sister's .380 doesn't like winchester, but the same load in Fiocci or federal runs just fine, which makes even less sense to me.
If I were to guess, its due to mine being a fixed barrel, the sig's being a rocking one, and my sisters gun being a budget gun.

In my opinion, the RIP ammo is a gimmick-- those petals aren't really causing any collateral damage, they're just annoying the surgeon who has to remove them. I'd rather stick with the Hornady Critical Defense or the Speer Gold Dot, and since my father carries a .380 (against my objections to go 9mm), proven performance and his safety are my tops on my list of priorities. I think the .380 takes some unnecessary flack, it can pack a punch for sure. However, I like you how you presented this test, and paint can/watermelon explosions are never wrong. As always, carry and shoot what you're comfortable and accurate with. I'd rather dad have a .380 than just a pocketful of car keys and lint.
As to the soda bottle penetration...Yeah, they're pretty tough when the cap is on and there's fluid inside. If the cap had been off or loose, it wouldn't have surprised me if that .380 base had passed right into it. The fluid displaces the air, and the air/water pushes back against the plastic and acts like a slingshot, absorbing the energy, and sending it back.

Exactly, spyderxtra777! I mean, yeah, there may be some argument to be made about what material a round can penetrate from what it cannot, but the mere sound of gunfire signals to anyone with an iota of cognizance & even to most predatory animals that there is some serious danger afoot when gunfire is sounding!
And, yeah, anyone who can imagine what it could be like to get hit by a speeding projectile of any size is going to be somewhat deterred even when it is the muzzle end of a supposedly lowly .380 pointed in their direction.
And, yeah, there is going to be some bleeding & pain to whosoever gets hit by a fired .380 round, whether it be the "R.I.P." or not!
People can be so ridiculous at times, particularly when unrelentingly defending a clearly indefensible position. It cannot be reasonably argued that it is better to be without any weapon whatsoever when being robbed or burglarized or carjacked or homicidally jumped than to be with a .380 or, for that matter, a 22!

Amazing .380 A.C.P. G2 Research R.I.P. ammo demonstration, But now I wonder which is better the G2 Research R.I.P .380 A.C.P. Ammunition or G2 Research Civic Duty .380 A.C.P. Ammunition? It's nice to see so improved designs for .380 A.C.P. as my 4'11 GF carries this round and I want the very best for her. I hope other manufacturers follow G2's lead in R&D. Thank you very much for this video. It really helps a person to see and decide what works. Thank you very much.

daneg007 If you hit someone with ANYTHING in soft tissue like that, you will kill them, the problem with RIP is that humans are not pretty clear ballistic gel dummies. hell you see that round get stopped by a freaking dr thunder bottle and a watermelon, god helo you if you have to shoot through a thick winter jacket or heaven forbid the guy is carrying something! you fire a Critical Duty hollow point, ball ammo, or ANY other 380 round at that range and it would have caused enough of a wound to kill a man.,..AND you dont have to worry about hitting him center mass and ending up with a .22 weight base being the only thing going deep enough to harm him.

    • @unitedgray

Exactly. The main function of this round is to look pretty in ballistics gel. You can tell how little damage this round does by the fact that the permanent wound channels it creates are so small. Large, permanent wound channels are what cause rapid incapacitation.

I bought these rounds in 9mm and couldn't hit a jug full of water at 15 feet. I typically practice at 30 feet and maintain a 6 inch pattern. I think they are too lite and tumble. They are no good if you can not tough the target. Can you demonstrate these rounds in 9mm? I let another shooter fire these rounds from his pistol and he had same results.

I recently read something about judges using this against defendants when they have to defend themselves. "Why use RIP rounds? That's cruel and unusual!" Of course we know that's a defense round but a jury may see different. USCCA posted a good video about this topic.

I carry the Glock 42 with RIP rounds. I have complete confidence that it will eliminate the threat I'm aiming at, without Blue-Crossing bystanders. Of course I would never stop with one shot. If an intruder is worth shooting once, he's worth shooting multiple times.

utubetommy You seem to be the only one that gets it. Self defense rounds are not designed to kill buffalo. Over penetration is a very dangerous issue in a public environment. I want any shot into a threat to stop in the threat. The threat will be dead with this round in a few seconds with proper shot placement. The threat will be dead from bleed out in a few minutes with this round otherwise. I have been using Ruger ARX myself. Good video.

I agree with you. I keep thinking of a scenario where I'm with my wife in a crowded restaurant, and some drug addict comes in and whips out a gun. If I use a regular round and shoot him, the round could possibly penetrate through him and into some customer behind. I wouldn't want to have killing an innocent bystander on my conscience, even if the criminal was stopped and died. Of course, the other scenario under those circumstances would be that the criminal lived and the bystander behind him died. Not a great situation. So I want a round that penetrates into the body of the criminal but does not exit. I know there's a lot of self defense rounds out there, all claiming to be the best. One will never know for sure unless/until one is in that situation. Hopefully that will never happen, but the likelihood of that happening grows each day.

utubetommy well the other side to that is even if it does hit a bystander, shooting and killing the attacker saved the lives of others. Still, not the best scenario, but it's better than nothing or under penetrating and risking him shooting overs before it stops him

I think a point a lot of people are missing with this ammo is the explosive energy transfer to the first (or contact) target. The damage is profoundly different, almost opposite of a normal hollow point. Where a normal hollow point goes in small and expands to drop its energy, the RIP expands first and transfers its energy upfront. In my opinion, that is exactly what you want. That being said, the damn stuff wouldn't cycle through my CZ 75 unless its +P, too damn light.
Edit: In knife fighting, deep damage is the goal, not necessarily organ damage. I figure a gaping hole in the front (RIP) bleeds as well as a gaping hole in the back back (H.P).

Wow, some folks have a real problem with these guys just doing fun tests. I have wanted to see the RIP ammo in some tests, now I have, with a bit of fun. They were not trying that hard to sell the ammo, else they would have drawn more comparisons. Get a life.
Nobody ought to buy the ammo anyway, the cost/benefit is nonexistent. The price is double the price of high quality defense rounds. I don't care if the ammo is a gimmick or kryptonite, it's price is a bad joke and only a gullible fool buys it.

I carry 380 Kel-Tec P3AT with Remington 88Gr JHP. Because that is what I can get easy from Walmart. Last time I fired it I think it would put some hurt on someone but I don't have a way to really test what it will do. I know it isn't as bad as hitting them with my 357 with 158 Gr JHP and a 4 inch barrel. Have you tested this round in a about 2 inch barrel?

I have tried Every thing I know to do from running it wet to dry , different types of ammo brass , steel , aluminum , factory loads , reloads . They all hang up ? Even the Beretta 380 . Why ?? At this point I won't trust one for defence . Can you shed some light on this subject please . Thank you .

I have the little Kel Tec .380 and I like it a ton. Way too much false negatives are thrown around about this round. Between the RIP ammo and the Lehigh Defense rounds (I'd like to see them side by side), it is pretty well guaranteed to ruin someone's day.
Remember, the .380 is just a 9mm short. The lack of charge has been more than made up by new powder and projectile technologies.
As a back up, small carry for light clothing, easy to hide, lack of encomberment, good for smaller/weaker shooters and just plain fun... This is a great round and goes well with the world's lightest .380. Shooting is believing for the round and the Kel Tec, as well.
Thanks for all the good vids, guys.

Rip is a gimmick. I carry Lehigh Defense's xtreme penetrators for my 380. It gives 14 - 15" inches of penetration, doesn't clog. And the wound channels are similar to HP.

Good video. Would be curious to see how it performs in blind barrier scenarios or shooting at oblique angles where deeper penetration is paramount. As you stated probably acceptable with frontal torso exposure at 7-8 yards. And of course the obvious no one wants to get shot with it. That goes without saying for any caliber bullet and is reiterated in virtually every video. The real question for any bullet is how quickly does it eliminate the threat?
