Thanks for this video, I reused a 30 sec hose end sprayer which is 1/2 gl or 64 oz. I mixed that container 3 to 1 (32 oz water and 16 oz of Pool Essentials) and then it's mixed again with the hose. It worked real good but not too hot. I had bad algae on the South of my house and it took two applications to remove it. Probably will try cutting it back to 8 oz and test that out. Keep in mind the hose end sprayer solution is 8% so using Pool Essentials is almost 1 to 1 that's why I did 3 to 1 to dilute it.
8% of 64 ounce is 5.12 Ounces of Sodium Hypochlorite. So if using a 10% Pool Essentials would you not have to use 51.2 ounces of it to get the same ratio?
Great video! Due to problems mentioned here I’ve decided to have separate containers and run 12 volts pump and mix to recipe and pump spray then rinse with the Ps, not flushing the Ps pump

I’m using 10% pool chlorinator with a 3400 psi pressure washer. All I need to know is do I dilute the 10% with water, or do I simply put it in the foamer with an ounce of Dawn (safe for mixing with chlorine) and let the pressure washer add sufficient water to the mix that all is good. You might have an injector that came with the pressure washer. It goes after the machine so chemical only goes through the hose and gun. Your manual will say what size the injector is. Maybe a 10 to 1. So if using a 10% SH put the hose from injector into a bucket of straight (non diluted) SH of 10% and you will get 1% coming out the end of the hose. You can get different size injectors to increase strength of SH. I think most can ever get from downstreaming is around 2-2.5% but don't quote me. If you need a hotter mix need to use a 12v pump and stuck up from a batch tank with mix of your choice. Like to get 5% mix 10% SH half half.
Great video. I will only add that bleach starts to degrade (turns to salt water) starting at around 6 months on the shelf. Buying in bulk is okay for the professional, not so much for the homeowner.
Took your advice on this years ago in your past videos which are very informative by the way. I use pool essentials for my applications and it works great. I also use a downstream injector to avoid running the bleach through my pressure washer as you advised in past videos. Needless to say it was a corroded mess by spring lol lesson learned 😃 Glad your back keep the great advise coming 👍
Hi. I appreciate that you mentioned about the plants. I am going to be using a pump up sprayer, and I have a lot of plants. Do you add any Dawn to the solution? Whoops. I heard it at around the 16 minute mark. Thanks. It's easy. 1 gallon of water, 1 ounce of Dawn (2 tablespoons), 2 cups of 10% strength pool chlorine. I've used this and it works perfectly. I recommend rinsing with a power washer especially if you have a 2 story home.
Hi Dan, my question is more about figuring out how to tell the water mix percentage of a new Predator 3200 2.8 GPM. The onboard cleaning holder says no bleach, so I am trying to figure out how to use bucket with bleach without over doing it. I have read through the manual but not seeing the answer. I am hopeful you can assist or advise how I can figure it out. Thank you in advance, I really appreciate your videos.
@@DansVlog my friend thanks. You are the only person on youtube that have said how to really mix hs. No to much wondering around. Simple like as you said it. It depends on the % of active hs on the bottle and you can put straight gallons of hs of your 5 gallons bucket and ready to down stream. You are the man. Getting ready to start my bussines. God bless you.
My suggestion is to not worry about the numbers/ratios. Just be safe. When using unknown equipment, start out thin. Put a gallon of 7% up to 10% in a bucket with a gallon of water and siphon that with 2 ounces of Dawn and see what happens. Should be plenty safe to not cause harm to lawn and plants. If the yuk doesn’t get dissolved in 15-20 minutes. Add 1/2 gallon more SH and retry. Once it works, write it down!!
Thanks for a refresher on this info you previously posted. I am 70 years old and use 1 gallon of SH to soft wash my 2000 square foot house. I use the Chapin sprayer device ( $23.00 from amazon) and mix SH with dawn . So it costs me $4.00 to do this versus $275.00 that a company would charge me. Thanks for the savings from someone on a fixed income. Love your honest vlogs.
Hi, I’m so excited that I’ve found this video after searching for 2days trying to figure out the best cleaner for my stained t1-11 exterior on my home. I thought everyone was saying to neutralize the bleach with oxalic acid? Do I need to worry about doing that or just rinse the SH and let dry. I’m planning on putting stain back on it or painting it..
I watched all these videos Trying to find this information and after watching this I realized how full of **** every body else is. Thank you so much and God Bless you.
Dan I’m glad your back , I have the 30sec hose in sprayer I used on a previous job. Going to mix up the new batch of pool essentials and use it on my next job. you think if I add the new mix to the hose in sprayer instead of my 3 gallon hand sprayer if would work the same ?
It is worth a shot! I will check the active ingredients on the hose and sprayer and see if it’s 5% 3% 6% and knowing that the pool essentials is 10% you might want to dilute it a little bit with water to equal the same percentage as the hose end sprayer ratio
I love your videos, thank you! Do you have a suggestion for coconut palm branch stain on shingle roof? I have tried with just bleach and soap and it has not all come off. I heard someone suggest TSP, do you have a better solution?
Dan, I watched your house wash in the past and tried Purple Power (1 Cup/gal) with household bleach (2-1/2 cups/gal) followed with a consumer pressure washer. Three years later it needs done again, normally it needs washed every year. I'm convinced the purple power slows down the regrowth of algae and mildew, its also really cheap to use in place of the dawn soap. Just picked up some 10% bleach and getting ready to wash the vinyl siding again.
@@rjonyina8152 I use a downstream injector but if the unit has an onboard soap container I just pull the house out of the container top and run it right into a bottle of bleach
Excellent videos man , just started useing hypo in the uk , however ours comes in at 15% ! Been trying to get my head around ratios , been following the guid on the container which is 1:5 or on heavy soil down to 1:3 my math is shocking but from what you say hypo at 15% at those ratios seems strong ?
Dan long time viewer here, thanks for all your informative videos! From experience what works best on algae and moss on cement driveway do you recommend sodium hypochlorite and Dawn? When did you get the jeep? looking sharp!
Is this aafe for brick & painted trim i just found you thru googlei asked how much bleach needed & you popped up tryna wash the house today on my wayvto wally world also can it be used on like storage buildings with painted aluminum metal thx in advance
Hey im 100% green and i have a 2 story house to do. How many 5 gallon buckets of mix do you think i need for a house about 4,000 Square feet ? Its vinyl siding. If pool essentials is good for 5 gallons im just curious of how many il need to buy for a larger house. An approximate
Run 10% active or less full strength right into the downstream injector. Dilute 12.5% by 50/50 with water in a bucket and then run that into your downs
Go for it! Please pay zero attention to the shiny objects (wash rigs, gadgets and soaps) and classes on UA-cam!!! Some of the gadgets will improve work flow ( larger surface cleaner and a 5.5gpm pressure wash pump) but none are necessary. I also added a remote shutoff for the chem injector (it saves a lot of time) and a 12v system to wash roofs. Do good work and upgrade equipment later if you get more serious about it. Just don’t be fooled into thinking you need all the fancy gadgets. You can make a lot of money with the simplest setup
How does a dark green vinyl siding hold up to bleach and house washes? I am worried about streaks or spotting.... Thanks p.s. What about that wood backboard, I'm an old paramedic, just curious.
Hi, you mentioned it nay take up to 20 minutes to clear the mold. Do you rinse with water after or before the 20 min? Would it dried up after 20 mins. Thanks.
Can you use the bleach recipes on on stained wood siding? Looking to wash the house before I stain, mold in areas, especially on the soffit. The whole house is wood, soffit, facia and siding
Hi Dan great video. I run a small pressure washing business and I use a 20 gallon Chem tank. I mix my 10% S. H. at 1 part S.H and 4 parts water , do you think that that's a good mix. Just trying to find out what's a proper mix from the professionals like yourself.
Depending on your injector’s ratio. I run 10% straight but I have a low draw adjustable downstream chemical injector 20:1. If you are using a stainless steel non adjustable it might be a 10:1. In that case diluting it like you are is a good thing.
Can I use my pressure washer foam cannon to spray bleach that is the big mouth from harbor freight. I am using the electric Portland one. Then do can disconnect the cannon to pray and rinse the house. So my question is how you mix the small 33 ounce container with bleach?
I have a homeowners pressure washer for my own home vinyl siding. It has a reservoir on the pressure washer. Would the manual tell me what ratio the pump is removing from the reservoir? I am just trying to determine if I have to dilute the mix in the reservoir or not.
Great video Dan! How would you handle minor algae spotting on concrete tile roof? Yes, it's minimal and on the north side, but my homeowners insurance is cancelling us unless it's fixed. They're looking for every excuse to get out of So. Cal.
@stevec9231 good to hear that. I live in norcal and I heard they are using the same approach with trees overhanging your roof line. I trimmed mine as a precaution.
Dan I need your help. First I'm a dedicated subscriber and thanks so much for the guidance. I started pressure washing and house washing in CA a few month a ago and it's been going great. Today I did a 2 story house, pale yellow color with tons of black mold on the back and one side. The siding is some kind of wood composite and seemed soft-ish, no way to i would use pressure. I down streamed your recipe with my jrod and 4gpm machine, good soap hitting the house. After 15 min none of it was coming off with a rinse. I had to get very close to the first story with my shooter rinse tip and it "would" come off with that pressure but I was sure would also cause damage and be extremely time consuming and no way to reach the 2nd story with the pressure needed. I hit it again but this time downstreamed straight pool essentials from a bucket, good coverage and another 15 min to dwell. A lite better but not much. I told the customer the mold had gotten too deep into the siding, still gave a great house wash on the rest and did the driveway for free. He tipped me $25 even. I know I did everything right but what do you think I did wrong failing to eliminate the mold? Thank you so much for responding if you can.
Needed a hotter mix I would think. Now you know the limitations of downstreaming. You might only get to 2%. Need a dedicated softwash system like a 12v pump, then you could have tried a mix of 3-4%
Good info. I’m doing a power washing on stucco. I was able to remove the algae/green with outdoor clorox 😂. But not the black stains. So yes I be buying the pool essential, so if it’s 10% hitted straight on stucco or better to mix it? I be using the black nozzle. If i have to mix it what should the mixture ratio be on a 5g bucket. High walls. What do you recommend. I can even send you a pic.
Dilute the 10% as I suggest in this video and apply it to the stucco. Let it dwell for 15 or 20 minutes and if you’re not satisfied with the results, apply another coat and then rinse it off after an additional 15 or 20 minutes
I see a lot of videos on how to mix bleach and how to apply it but I don't see any videos regarding how long should I leave the bleach set before washing it off
Bleach down the entire house. Around 20 minutes. The soap will help it stay wet longer. It’s ok if it dries. Then rinse the entire house. Then spot treat hard areas as needed
Once again Awesome video again wondering I have a very old Is deck to do tomorrow what percentage would you recommend I can either do pump UPS Or pressure washer
Using a pump up, I would go strong since it is very old as you say. Maybe using 10% or less active ingredients (SH) I would put 1 quart SH to 3 quarts water and an ounce of Dawn. Eat it dwell a good long while. Maybe even 45 minutes and reapply. Dwell again and rinse well
Dan. Great videos. But I am cofused & need your help. I'm 72 years old & have Simpsom 3000 PSI 2.4 GPM Pressure washer. I am going to use a Downstream injector after the pump using 12.5 SH to wash my 2 story vinyl house. Question I have is do I put 2 gallons SH & 1Gallon water & 3 oz soap into my 5 gal bucket? I've seen it the other way 2 gal water & 1 gal SH &1 oz soap. Which is the correct formula? Thanks in advance.
How do I get a pump sprayer from the ground to reach a steep roof? Do they sell extension rods/hose? I have a Ryobi backpack sprayer but need to extend the wand to reach up high. Any help would be appreciated.
Great video Very informative. Question for you. Is Dawn dishwashing soap ok to use as a surfactant? I’ve heard to use a laundry detergent as it’s formulated to work with bleach better. Any thoughts of using a surfactant for herbicides? I have an AG surfactant I use when spraying weeds in my lawn. I’m guessing the soaps a better option as it will help lift the dirt off the surface better than a plain surfactant which just makes water wetter like you said. One more question if you don’t mind. What are your thoughts on pouring the sodium hypochlorite solution and soap into the soap dispenser on the electric power washers? I have a Karcher electric power washer since I’m not a professional and just doing my home and and helping out some of my elderly neighbors. Thank you
I’ve never had a problem with fumes or crazy effects using Dawn as a surfactant with bleach and yes, I also use dawn with my round up to help make the recipe a bit more sticky and to help get the chemo into the leaves by breaking down the waxy covering some weeds have.
@@DansVlog any thoughts on using the soap container attached to the Karcher electric pressure washer? Or is it just easier to mix it up in a garden sprayer so you know what your concentrations are? Thank you for the quick reply.
@@alanmahler277 I don’t use the on-board soap containers because they don’t hold enough and it’s annoying to have to keep stopping to fill it. I simply pull the siphon tube from the on-board container and I siphon straight from a bucket. Much easier
Thank you, sir, I am getting into small house washing and patios. I do use a downstream 20:1 injector. The 10% will be fine to run as put soap line in 10% without mixing will not be too hot to cause damage?
Listen to what I said in my video. The 7:1 is if you’re using a sprayer. Your pressure washer should not be running at a 7:1, that would be way too much product going onto the house. Go back and watch the video again, don’t skip through it. Just run the 10% straight into the siphon of your pressure washer and don’t forget to add a little soap to the 10%
My pressure washer is also saying its a 1:45, dan said what he uses is 1:20 running 10% SH/dawn straight. I was wondering if the mix would be too weak even running it straight out of a 1:45, and other than upping the concentration of SH not much you could do but maybe multiple coats. How'd it work for you?
If the pool stuff in one quart to a gallon , isn’t that 5 gallon that it will make instead of 8. Want to make sure I’m getting this right. About to clean some mold and mildew off house.
I don’t have a mildew issue with my house, just dirt and pollen. It’s James Hardy Board and Batten White. What would you suggest as the best for that application?
I bought 15% from Amazon uk. Used it today wearing shorts and T-shirt, gloves glasses. Used my wet and forget sniper tub that I hook my hose onto, shoots spray high up roof. Shot it all over my roof. Did all my paths. Rinsed it off. Then I coated the roof in wet N forget. A kept spraying my arms and legs with water as I went. I don’t know how much my mixer dilutes it, il look at roof in morning. Neighbour paid £600 for cowboys to hypo and jet wash, yes it’s clean but the concrete slates are so bleached, can make the tiles more porous. I had a few pink spots on my T-shirt. Wasn’t windy. He who dares wins. 😊
Nevermind cleaning the house of mold, bacteria and dirt with pool chlorine by the end of the job I'm soaking wet, squeaky clean and mold free! haha Thanks for the info sir!
So I just got a 2.5gpm 3200psi simpson washer. And I can actually get pool shock liqud(12.5%SH) cheaper then the pool essentials 10% ANd if I am under standing you correctly. 2 gallons of shock and 1 gallon of water will dilute down to being close to 10%SH? Also How many gallons of bleach would you typically use on a 1000SQFT driveway?
Concrete driveway. Aim for 3-4%. But could use 5-6% if really bad and only want to hit it once. If shock says 12.5% on bottle. Cutting in half will give you 6.25% (so mix half shock and half water in a tank). Cutting in quarters will give you 3.125% (so mix 1 part shock to 3 parts water)

What about using the soap injector on your pressure washer? Is that okay to use straight bleach. Will that mix it at the correct blend?
It's easy. 1 gallon of water, 1 ounce of Dawn (2 tablespoons), 2 cups of 10% strength pool chlorine. I've used this and it works perfectly. I recommend rinsing with a power washer especially if you have a 2 story home.
Cleaning my house tomorrow with your recipe..never fails

Did you get the Chapin sprayer idea from my video I posted a few years back? You are doing great by saving all that money!
Yes, you turned me on to the Chapin. Thanks again!!!
Which model Chaplin sprayer?
Does this chemical blend also works on a shingles roof.
Thank for the great videos!
This is the 1st time watching your channel very interesting thank you
Thank you!
I would apply it, let it do its magic for 20 minutes and rinse well
iv learned so much more than i thought i knew, and your vids has helped me cut my learning curv, thank you Dan!

I watched all these videos
Trying to find this information and after watching this I realized how full of **** every body else is.
Thank you so much and God Bless you.

To the dang point!
It was Covid! The algae was on lock down 😂🤣
do you put it right in the soap on your pressure washer or use a downstream injector
@@rjonyina8152 I use a downstream injector but if the unit has an onboard soap container I just pull the house out of the container top and run it right into a bottle of bleach
@@rjonyina8152 I use a pump sprayer, 1 gal does one side of my house. The bleach will kill your pump, don't put it in the soap tank.
So we can add some purple power to the bleach water mixture for a pump up sprayer.
What a great idea!!! Would you be able to put this in a hose attachment sprayer and get the correct concentration on the siding? Thank you

Hey Dan..new to pressure washing game..quick question..can I use a foam cannon to apply solution to a home
Yes but no need.
Could you run the bleach through a foam cannon to get it to cling longer on the house? 😎
Using a 4 gal p/min pressure washer with a down stream injector the water mixes with the SH in the injector so it's not deleted prior.
Run 10% active or less full strength right into the downstream injector. Dilute 12.5% by 50/50 with water in a bucket and then run that into your downs
@@DansVlog I think I would dilute 12.5% but not as much as 50//50.

I've really been considering getting into this as a side hustle. Thanks for the quality content/information Dan!
You’re welcome! DO IT!!

Thank you. Never worked on log homes
Will this recipe also work for concrete deck that is mildewed as well?
I am using the 30 sec hose end container to apply pool essential bleach. Do I dilute or straight from gallon. Thanks

Good stuff, is there anything you can add to mix to kind of mask the bleach smell.
The soap is a big help
Have you ever tried using sodium percarbonate or sodium hydroxide on vinyl siding?
I remember the old days of you washing houses very informative , thanks . 🤔🤗

Yes the manual will tell you. I have a Westinghouse xp3200 and it says in the manual that the radio is 1:12 for the soap.
Great video Dan! How would you handle minor algae spotting on concrete tile roof? Yes, it's minimal and on the north side, but my homeowners insurance is cancelling us unless it's fixed. They're looking for every excuse to get out of So. Cal.
Did they satellite Google your house? How did they know.
Probably used a drone. The insurance company was satisfied with the cleaning and renewed the policy. Still b.s. for the minor algae spots.
@@DansVlog just to confirm. If i use a 2g pump diluted with soap and water. If using the power wash use it straight
@@Amartbp9226 Yes. 10% or less thru a siphon/pump use it straight.
@@DansVlog so no soap with the pump. Just straight
@@Amartbp9226 ALWAYS soap. I never do a wash without soap added. One ounce per gallon of SH.
How about getting 20% which I used to find in England. Is that available here in the USA?
A thousand thanks Dan!!
Is this recipe safe for painted Hardie Board siding! Any experience with good results?
You're the man.
Would love to know how you would mix this SH to use in a foam cannon.
I don’t waste my time using foam cannons. No reason for it
Once again Awesome video again wondering I have a very old Is deck to do tomorrow what percentage would you recommend I can either do pump UPS Or pressure washer
Reduce the 12.5 by 50% and add 3 oz soap. I don’t use 12.5 but my friend does and he does a 1:1 reduction THEN let’s it siphon as normal

If I’m mixing a 5 gallon bucket how many ounces of soap should I add? Thanks!
Around 5 or 6 ounces is plenty
Great video
Very informative.
I have not had any issues with siphoning 10% straight with a 20:1
Thank you for this video. I just subscribed to your channel for more knowledge 🧠💪🏼.
Hey Dan,I want to use a 4 gallon back pack sprayer, what mix do you recommend for soffit and fascia board???
Dan question if my pressure washer gives out 1:45 mix ratio how do I get 1:7 in your video
Listen to what I said in my video. The 7:1 is if you’re using a sprayer. Your pressure washer should not be running at a 7:1, that would be way too much product going onto the house. Go back and watch the video again, don’t skip through it. Just run the 10% straight into the siphon of your pressure washer and don’t forget to add a little soap to the 10%
Okay 1:45 will be okay no need to restrict chemical just straight out
Thank you
My pressure washer is also saying its a 1:45, dan said what he uses is 1:20 running 10% SH/dawn straight. I was wondering if the mix would be too weak even running it straight out of a 1:45, and other than upping the concentration of SH not much you could do but maybe multiple coats. How'd it work for you?
What do you recommend for cleaning concrete
If the pool stuff in one quart to a gallon , isn’t that 5 gallon that it will make instead of 8. Want to make sure I’m getting this right. About to clean some mold and mildew off house.
I don’t have a mildew issue with my house, just dirt and pollen. It’s James Hardy Board and Batten White. What would you suggest as the best for that application?
Sorry if you’ve already answered this, but can this recipe be used on stucco?
How about/do i need to add suds?
So it sticks longer?
What you think about oxyclean
GREAT INFORMATION THANKS SO MUCH
So if I’m using a 2.5 GPM pressure washer I should run the 10.5 SH straight through without diluting?
8:18 1 quart is 4 cups.. is that on top of the 2 gallons of water or to equal 2 gallons? I
To equal the 2 gallons. Thank you Bro!
Nevermind cleaning the house of mold, bacteria and dirt with pool chlorine by the end of the job I'm soaking wet, squeaky clean and mold free! haha Thanks for the info sir!
You bet
Yea, clothes get tie dye!
What about when using the 30 second cleaner applicator that connects to a hose? 1 bleach cup 10% per gallon?
It’s a total scam and waste of money. I got a bottle today and it didn’t work.
Keep up the good work Dan 👏
Thank you
