For everyone who confused why there are some different translations in this video (not all translations use "that's my girl" like the english one):
Actually the japanese line (which is the original line) is "ii ko da", which means "good girl/boy". That's why not all the dubs use the "that's my girl" line. Maybe the english dub didn't use the literal translation to make it sounds more romantic and beautiful (still it has similar contextual meaning with the original japanese line)

I totally agree with you. It is a big deal to be able to see how the dialogues were translated and performed in different languages. But my favorite one is the Japanese original with the unsurpassed performance of Takuya Kimura. I love to listen to his voice and it is a pity that he is not more fluent in English in order to enjoy him in more English speaking roles. He is a great actor.

Well in Russian he says "that's nice". That's the official dub obviously but imo the fan made translation and dub is so much better. His voice is so smooth and quiet there and he actually says "good girl" in that one and somehow it's closer to both Japanese and English versions than the official dub.

I just wanna point out that in other languages the line might have to be changed to actually fit the scene, for example if he said "that's my girl" in Chinese it would translate to "那是我的女人", and would just make him sound super possessive instead.

many of them doesn’t say “that’s my girl”, that’s because they don’t translate it according to the english *translation* ... in the original version he says “いい子だ (ii ko da)” which means something like “good kid/good child”, just to approve her.
2:17 in French he says "vous êtes courageuse" which basically means 'you are brave'
my opinion!! but to me saying "that's my girl" is a big no-no when flirting (cause it's something you usually say to a 6yo kid) so props to the French cast for modifying it

Apart from the original Japanese, I really like Howl’s voice in Italian, Greek and Swedish. They just feel right for the character.
As a french person I was surprised when I saw the title cause I was like "when did howl said
^^ it would translate into “that’s a good kid” but again, to put into cultural context and in this case, romantic subtext, the phrasing is flirty. think of it as if you were saying baby to an actual kid or to your partner !
