Came from Caroline, stayed for the books ❤️✨
Caroline is awesome 🧡
So interesting! I’ve only been watching Caroline Winkler’s channel for a minute but love her sister - this author’s! - SAVAGE interior design reactions when she appears as a guest on Caroline’s channel. Definitely reading!
She’s equally savage about the authorship question lol
* adds to TBR *
🥳
I'm actually the opposite to you on the Shakespeare authorship question - I started out open minded to the idea someone else wrote the plays, but the more and more research I do into it (there are over 5,000 books on the subject) the more clear it becomes to me that the man Shakespeare himself was the person who wrote them. Pretty much every single time in my experience it's the anti-Stratfordians who are trying to put others down and claim other people don't know what they're talking about. I'll still read this book though, I'll read literally ANYTHING on the Shakespeare authorship question I'm such a Shakespeare junkie (if you're already familiar with the authorship arguments I'd recommend both Bill Bryson's chapter on it in "Shakespeare" and James Shapiro's "Contested Will"). Thank you for bringing this book to my attention, it's now on the list.
If I had to recommend a mystery/thriller that was the greatest page turner I've ever read, it would be Vladimir Nabokov's Pale Fire. Strongly recommend if you haven't picked it up, I think you would love it.
Winkler’s book does not portray Shapiro (as an individual) in a very positive light to say the least and she is very critical of his book. Not arguing either way on the topic, but giving you a heads up as it could make Winkler’s book either more interesting or frustrating depending on the context of your previous research.
I totally agree. At this point, the “authorship question” is kinda just cringy and conspiratorial. Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare
Damn. I have never been so instantly convinced to pick up a book I’ve never heard of
Yeeeesss hehe hope you love it!
Cool! Came from Caroline's channel, just bought the audible download on your recommendation.
❤❤❤❤❤
Super excited to find your channel!
I don't know if I'll ever read it, but I'll certainly remember it after seeing someone talk so passionately about it, great video!
It’s just one library hold away…
Alright, you got me intrigued. I really was about to write it off when you first said what it was…but I stuck around to listen…and I’m actually now sold on wanting to read it. 📚
Been a while since you last posted. Great seeing you again Liene. Great vid. Take care❤
Not one I would have picked up on my own lol thanks! definitely something Ill look for soon.
Happy reading 😋
Loved the book.
wow! Elizabeth Winkler wrote books?!😍 shés Caroline's sis! Awesome!!She seemed so laid back 😅 Îm impressed and Îm definitely gg to read it thank you Liene🤗❤️
I clicked on this video SO FAST because I recognized the cover through the blur filter on the thumbnail! I LOVED this book. I went to an event at The Strand for it last year and literally stayed up until 4 AM on a weekday afterwards reading.
Un-put-downable!
Hold placed at my local library. Thanks for the recommendation!
Hope you love it!
Before reading this book I didn’t know more about Shakespeare than a high school education can hammer into any disinterested teen. I also don’t often read mysteries. This book was fantastic. Will read anything else Elizabeth releases for adults haha
I’m currently listening to Shakespeare was a Woman and Other Heresies and loving it too! I saw your review and put it at the top of my TBR!
So glad you’re enjoying!
Great video!
It is truly quite beyond me how you managed to get me so hyped for a book that I should really not be interested in at all 🤣Consider me sold, this sound fascinating!! I am glad you loved it so much!
You’ll be hyped too after you’ve read it 😉
I was considering reading it after the last video of Caroline's that Elizabeth was in and now i think i will. I'm considering recommending it as my next choice for my book club. Thanks for sharing your review!
My sister is a fan of Caroline’s channel and recommended I try out the book. I thought it was a fun time as well! It was my first introduction to the topic though, so I don’t know how it holds up for those more familiar with the topic, but as a standalone it was a good time. I really enjoyed how irreverent and snarky it was.
OK, I admit, I'm skeptical hahaha... I think you've convinced me though. Thanks for your passion.
Okay I'm sold
Video was well done, especially the music breaks. I think I have heard of this before, but I am at a point now where I am picking up more non fiction so it has been added to the list. 😅
Great timing! Hope you enjoy
Ms. Winkler should hire you as her publicist... You could sell water to a fish..
Just put the audio on hold from the library
Love this take!! Also, the author is the sister of Caroline Winkler, who creates great snarky UA-cam content. Will definitely read! Edited to add hahahahah you watch her tooooo, what a talented family jeez
lol yeah her brother’s wood crafting? Crazy talented
Alright, you convinced me. I'm picking this up. I better like it, lol
Thanks for the recommendation! It's a great reminder that real life is so often more thrilling and engaging than our imaginations (fiction) can create. :)
So true! Love the old adage that truth is stranger than fiction 😋
Omg what have you done ? Lucky for me, I'm going to Petone for breakfast & the excellent Schrödingers bookshop lives there ( this is a Liene perfect bookshop) - damn your enthusiasm ( have I ever seen you so excited before - not mentioning Abercrombie or Gaiman lol) ❤
And who is this Shakespeare guy lol.
lol yeah I’m not this excited about a book often 😋
ohh added 👀
Happy reading 😁
Liene, I think any long-time viewer of the channel would take you for your word.
I think we should simply just ask the sea who wrote them.
Ngl this took me a sec lmao legit cackling excellent deep cut
Has anyone read Steven Demogorgon book? It has spice, mystery, suspense and action packed......
My interest level of the Shakespeare authorship question is so extremely in the negative, I hate the topic, but I do trust you, so I guess I'll have to give it a shot at some point.
Hope the book changes your mind hehe
Hello! I'm new to this BookTuber's channel.
So, I have a question: has Liene read Malazan Book of the Fallen, but hasn't done any video reviews on it? Because I can't find them. Or does she plan on reading them? Or has she given them a try and then DNF-ed them? Because I also looked for a video rant on Malazan between her videos, but couldn't find any.
Maybe she doesn't plan on reading them or talking about them at all...?!
Edit: after much searching, I found two videos about Malazan, but they are both about Gardens of the Moon. So, it seems like she DNF-ed the series...?
I'm very much interested to know if her father stuck with it though. He seemed to like it and he said that he has faith in Erikson. So, I hope he did!
5:32 Has she engaged with the thesis, it was Shakespear, he was a secret Catholic, he had been in Jesuit colleges in Northern Italy, and that's why he knows the area so well?
The book does not engage with this theory.
@@isenhobbitz Fortunately another book did, earlier on, and I happened to read it in The Latin Mass (a magazine for Catholic Trads).
I hope you don't low rate yourself. You worthiness shines...
I was about two minutes into this video when you first posted it, and then I decided to pause it and go read the book. I went into it knowing almost nothing about the authorship question. I finished the book convinced that anyone with an open mind can’t help but question the authorship once they start looking into it. The book was every bit as good as you promised. Thanks for the recommendation.
So glad you enjoyed!
Caroline Winkler read your review in her latest video 👀
5:56 A question.
Was Francis Bacon presented as a candidate?
Shall we say, I'm pretty sold on the idea it was Shakespear himself, and he was Catholic, but of the ones presented as alternatives, I'd give least scepticism perhaps to Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford or William Stanley, 6th Earl of Derby.
Bacon was too overall different, I'd say (without having read him), and Marlowe was much gorier as a playwright.
Bacon is presented as an early theory when she details the history of the debate, but he is not shown as a particularly strong candidate.
@@isenhobbitz Thank you!
I'd definitely agree on the latter assessment.
Part of the "weakness" of Shakespear himself is ignorance of where he got whatever education he had, but there is obviously the thesis he was in North Italy under pseudonyms in Jesuit colleges, preparing to become a priest hider.
Part of it is obviously also that we are now less used to the things an even secondary education would have involved back then. LOTS less Math and Science. LOTS more history, literature, and how to do descriptions.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhh so this is Covid but who wrote Shakespeare ok rad u got me lol.
Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare. I know it personally. I was there.
Liene is the best chuck out the rest................................. dang... Liene IS the best chuck out the rest but I have no desire or intention of ever picking up this book aargh this is really testing the mantra grrr aarghen overload ok its on the spreadsheet fkkit.
Nonsense conspiracy crap confirmed.
Wow, what if it wasn't William who wrote it, that would be a nearly immeasurable crime against the real author.
nothing satisfies me more than proving someone or something wrong that is so guarded, protected from challenges or discussion. Welcome to conspiracy theories . . . it is another term for someone who merely questions reality so if you are a buddist you are screwed
Jesus is God ✝️=🥰♾️ and all of this is contingent only. Get Jesus or Get rekt everlastingly.
Have you seen the movie Anonymous with Rhys Ifans? There is some pretty convincing evidence that Shakespeare's plays and poems were written by the Earl of Oxford.
I don't appreciate your ruse, ma'am.
