I may or may not agree with all your choices, but the points you make, explaining why these particular films were chosen, are both thoughtful and insightful. Thanks - I always enjoy these reviews.
The only one of these I've seen is 'Barbie' ( the only new release I saw theatrically in 2023), and appreciated it very much. A companion seeing the movie with me thought the political subtext was too heavy-handed, but I found the deeper existential themes on humanity and self-determination quite moving.
YAY ! All the thumbs up ! Loved loved loved films #3 and # 2. Looking forward to watching # 1 Congratulations to the filmmakers writers and actors and crews ✨🎬✨🎞️✨📽️✨🎥✨ ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨🎥
I take Richard Brody's suggestions and usually enjoy films he recommends. Are there other critics people are following to help them choose what to watch? It would be interesting to know whether Richard himself reads other critics and can recommend.
One of the many lists we will see this month. Can't even get to three this year. I liked 'The Quiet Girl' and 'Decision To Leave', but didn't see everything. The face masks of the directors made me smile.
I like movie critics. Their expertise in the medium helps us with our options. People who have issues with critics just lack media literacy and completely mises the point.
I never owned a Barbie doll either (though handled some of my older sister's specimens), but I did see the movie, and enjoyed it very much. As Brody indicates here, the movie is about much more than simply Barbie.

Pretty surprised at this selection, figured itd be a little more eccentric

The Holdovers is the best film of 2023
Now I know why *I should have liked* Asteroid City, though I only made it half an hour in and have no plans to revisit it 😂
Same I felt it was made in the style of Wes Anderson. It felt like, it was checking boxes.
As a liberal this feels like the most liberal choices in movies 😅
Yep. I don't think he even tried to name the best films, but the best liberal films.
Oh let’s attack with the liberal word now. Grow up nut job.

No "The Boy and the Heron"? We can't all agree but IMO it was a masterpiece
I do recommend Robot Dreams
Thanks!
1. Fairytale
2. The Killer
3. Fallen Leaves
there is more to film than America
We need more Videos like this!
Fantastic choices!

Asteroid City! Yes!
Past Lives
don't listen to critics or anyone

Killers of the Flower Moon looks psychologically breaking and profound
Barbie also rocked my boat
Your dislike of Oppenheimer gives me reason to question all your picks, maybe you should add The Paw Patrol movie to your list.
Oppenheimer was a snore, nothing we haven’t seen before. And I’m a Nolan fan.
I agree with your favorite, moving story!
Oppenheimer?
He didn’t like it.
Glad to find out that I watched all the best films this year!
Agree!!
Disappointed Picard meme.
❤❤❤
Best movies produced in US in 2023
This list is the most generic list of films I’ve seen since everyone’s favorite movie was force awakens
KotFM: Great
Missed: Godzilla -1.0. Maybe the best.
Barbie was OK, but had some truly embarrassing moments, like almost all Mattel related scenes.
I am surprise with this short list that i agree so❤
Killers of the Flower Moon is the best of 2023, NOT Oppenheimer
I didn’t agree with his picks last year, but these I do. But, I can’t watch him without noting he looks like a mad scientist/unabomber/homeless guy….
We need more A thousand and one love
The first 2 hours of Killers of the Flower Moon is my favorite movie of the year, and the last 86 minutes is my least favorite movie of the year
L take
Really, Rip Van Winkle, Barbie is the best picture of the year? Have you been asleep through all of cinematic history? I suspect so.
He didn’t say that.
He submitted 'Barbie' as the third best picture of 2023, giving top slot to 'Killers of the Flower Moon'.
Asteroid City?!? Ugh. Anderson has lost it-his recent films just parodying himself...or worse.
NO NO NOOOOOO. THIS GUY'S OPINION IS WORTH A WOODEN DOLLAR WOODEN DOLLAR
Dude! Can you clean up a little? That's a rough look.
Asteroid City is terrible.
The comments r entertaining
🌎👍❤
Asteroid City - hahaha
All three films are like plastic constructors you have to glue on your own. The bearded dude is clearly a glue addict.
Cool story bro
Only US movies...
The Iron Claw is the best film of 2023. Easily. Second best: "Air", third place: "Oppenheimer".
Air 😂 nahhhhhh
@@TheAriesendAir was fabulous. What was better?
Poor thing ❤
Worst film reviewer of all time. This list is fine but he’s the absolute worst
I didn’t own a Barbie doll when I was young…won’t watch it today
Fake news.
I never owned a Barbie doll either (though handled some of my older sister's specimens), but I did see the movie, and enjoyed it very much. As Brody indicates here, the movie is about much more than simply Barbie.
🥴
Barbie 😅😅
