- Edgar Wright and Quentin Tarantino talking about the "back-garden chase" genre. Taken from the 'Hot Fuzz' DVD commentary track.
This channel is NOT monetized. It's made for educational purposes only. From a movie fan, to movie fans.
It’s 2022 and these two still haven’t stopped talking
I always prefer two peers discussing things rather than the usual interview/answer stuff. The power dynamic is less preachy, and the friendship keeps it loose. Great upload.
This 3 and a half hours long,u think its still on UA-cam. One of my favorite dvd commentary if all time, pretty sure it's hot fuzz
@@tripp8443 After listening to this, I ordered the Bluray to hear the rest (my dvd copy never had it). These two are fun together.
comedians in cars getting coffee might just be inspired by that idea
@@guneetdhar4897 Good call.
I think the problem with 2 peers is that if you don’t get what they’re referencing they don’t stop to explain it or put in into context like an interviewer would try to make them do…
C'mon Tarantino, never taken a shortcut before?
Quentin: someone say foot?
everyone's got a person out there who gets their references. hope you find yours
thanks friend
Thanks
QT is that person, but for everyone
This warmed my heart ❣
I'm that person to my friends and I bore them all lovingly
I passed my film history class just by glancing at this thumbnail
lmao
Foot chase in se7en was a highlight
Lol...I love how Edgar was thrown a bit that Quentin had literally read the script XD a true film geek.
i just imagine evry hollywood director are best frendes
The ONLY foot chase (or scene in general) where a dog is thrown as a weapon. Love it.
Black Marble.
The Dark Knight shows multiple Rottweilers getting yeeted
Everything Everywhere all at Once has broken that record.
Sweet. Raising Arizona is my all time favorite.
Edgar Wright is by FAR my favorite director go watch Shawn or Hot Fuzz they are both master classes on great filmmaking 👌
I'd go so far as to say both series of Spaced act as masterclasses in Filmmaking. Every ep is like a mini genre film
“Blue streak” actually has a great chase in it lol
True Detective season 1...? He goes through houses too. Single shot. Great scene.
Legit
Insane shot really!
There’s also The Royal Tenenbaums. And Minority Report did a sci-fi take on the back garden chase.
The Ferris Bueller's Day Off back-yard chase is original in that the people "chasing" Ferris (i.e. his parents and sister) don't actually know they're chasing him.
What are you talking about his sister is chasing him
@@AT-sd9qq What are you talking about no she isn't- she's trying to get home before him which is NOT the same as chasing someone. You might say they're both racing to get home first.
@@floretionguru2977 To be fair every race is by definition also a chase isn’t it? Am I wrong?
Two great directors, two weirdly great voices
Great
Taken 3... the fence jump... say no more.
The Star Chamber (1983) has a chase like that.
WHAT A MOVIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, Peter Hyams spent a good chunk of his contemporary movies developing back garden chases. Which was actually really hard because Steadycam and Panaglide operator weren't easy to come by back then.
Se7en or Traffic for sure
How ironic. Just watched Straight Time last night.
what about the Shining? pretty sweet garden laybrinth pursuit scene.
I'm glad that Edgar Wright's apparently to some extent dopey tastes are an open topic or known between them, otherwise it could make their "friendship" look potentially awkward to some outside observers.
Straight Time is an amazing movie
And based on No Beast So Fierce, by one Edward Bunker of "Reservoir Dogs" fame
I expected QT to bring up the garden chase in Italian Connection.
What! No mention of "The Star Chamber" footchase...pre dates all the movies mentioned here. "Busting" had a sweet footchase, it ain't back garden but it's worth a look, so well shot.
"Busting" is literally on my desktop. Fantastic mention.
@@21stcenturyhiphop Yeah, one of those movies nobody has ever heard of. Same deal as Freebie and the Bean. Those early 70s flicks that they never show anymore...a real shame.
Peter Hyams is boss!
@@Geronimo_Jehoshaphat Yeah, when he was in his Purple patch he was very good.
@@philmellor4885 The ending is low key hilarious, though.
Black Marble has a hilarious chase scene that II don't think many have seen.
Just checked out the trailer. Never heard of this flick which is a surprise since I thought I knew everything about 70s 80s flicks. Looks interesting.
Black Marble is a classic.
Spider-Man Homecoming had one too, but that movie took a lot from Buller, Buller.
Edgar Wright is the Ayoade of Tarantinos.
Like it or not Euphoria put a great twist on the backyard chase scene
true ! that was a great episode
Filmmakers really seem to like euphoria. Based on how many shoots ive worked on have cited them as a reference the past year.
like it or not? ill never know
I like chase scenes in general. baby driver made me realize this and i don't necessarily like baby driver as a whole. I like the chase scene in it.
Se7en has a sort of one. Kind of an urban “back garden”.
Back gardens by their very nature are "urban"
@@hamishmunroe9906 The kind they are talking about in the video are sub-urban.
how about blues brothers? almost, right?
Police Academy didnt have a chase per say. She was just taking a shortcut through gardens to cut him off.
Oh yea totally
Police Academy was great cinema
Get a room, guys.
Police Academy is superior to half of Tarantino's favorite movies! 😆
Edgar wright is a better version of tarantino
saket adarsh I disagree with you. They are both absolutely incredible filmmakers and writers.
They have completely different movies. It's not fair to compare them like that.
Guy Ritchie
@@chandratechno3542 You are mine
Absolutely not!
