To be honest I was never that big a fan of Jim Carrey's movies I like some of them but others I really don't. Who he is as a person I think is amazing. To turn away from a career that he knew wasn't validating him and to try and be himself in Hollywood, a world that is as artificial as blue food, is one of the bravest things I've watched a human do. He's awesome.

We literally watched him go through an existential identity crisis. I always thought during that period that he was so disturbed he almost became obnoxiously aggressive with his spirituality much like someone when they first begin to read self help books. You could see him struggling and now it seems like he has come to terms with whatever he has discovered. Must admit though there was a period where I thought he lost it. It’s funny my whole life I’ve heard people talk smack about depressed celebrities, telling them to shut up cause they are rich and have great lives. The idea that money and attention will make us whole continues to be a sickness we all suffer from until we face some version of it ourselves. Thanks for the great video 😊

In 2018, Jim Carrey received a text message while he was in Hawaii that a missile will hit in a matter of minutes. He frantically tried to call his daughter but his daughter wasn't picking up and time was running out. So he walked out into the beach and take "everything" in and told himself exactly that line in the end of this video "I had a wonderful and lucky ride in this life. And yes I had enough" and thanked Life.
Clearly the missile alert was false, when it didn't happen. But that one moment changed him a whole lot he said recently, and he looks a lot more happier.

I remember that day so clearly. My brother was living on the big island at that time, and all I could do was pray it was a hoax or a mistake while talking on the phone with him. In those few moments, I said everything I needed to say, and when he passed away years later, I reflected on that phone call and felt gratitude for the conversation we had, even though the situation that prompted it was so terrifying. Totally unrelated to anything Jim Carrey related, but despite never having heard this quote before reading your comment, it's a poignant message that many people could benefit from taking to heart.

In any case, Jim is a freaking genius in many ways in my mind and I don't think we will see another one like him any time soon, if ever. I grew up on his movies and they will never stop being funny and exciting to me, no matter how many times I watched them.

He’s a part of my childhood and someone I’ve always looked up to. He seems to have a great deal of sympathy which matters to me a lot, even with his fuck ups, and bouts of what may seem like “craziness”, I don’t see him as bad at all, who isn’t slightly “crazy” sometimes and or fucks up here and there. If anyone feels he needs forgiveness, I think he’s shown more than enough remorse for what ever “mistakes” or fuck ups that happen along the ride. He still has my respect and admiration.

One of the wisest people out there. His talent is utterly undeniable (Liar Liar court and the Bruce Almighty Evan live scenes being my favourites) but his experience of pain, mental health and alternative ways of thinking comes out occasionally, producing incredible moments of clarity as he speaks. Many of the most successful comedians have this bifurcation of happiness and sadness, many of them suffering from depression and other issues that seemingly balances out the humour and effervescence (Robin Williams, Tony Hancock, Peter Cook, Peter Sellers etc). These treasures need to be told how much we love and appreciate them... the rest however can fuck right off ;P

Generally I start to cringe when people with options most people will never see start getting off into "spirituality", heck it's often cringy when people with no options start getting into spirituality, but a few of the things Carey said actually made some sense. When he showed up to that E! event and said he was just looking for the most meaningless place to be.. .It makes so much sense, I dont even remember that event, and everything involved with it truly was meaningless compared to so many things that actually matter more. Obviously some kind of experimental bit that he wanted to do. Show up knowing how famous he is, and not really giving a sht about whats even going on there. Also his speech at MIU was the best speech iv ever heard. Plus his art is likely going to be worth so much in 100 years from now, his art is beautiful

I've never been able to even tolerate Jim's brand of comedy and acting, but he seems like a very genuine dude to be honest. Outside of the wacky, neurotic characters he frequently plays, he seems very grounded as a person.

growing up, my family would go on roadtrips frequently. My siblings and I would choose, above all else, two movies to bring. They were absolute musts: The Mask and Dumb & Dumber. To this day, we all quote lines from these comedies and we never get tired of it. They just bring infinite joy. And for that I'll always be greatful to Jim and consider him a legend.

I remember when “In Living Color” started and although it was mainly a cast of people of color (like the name suggests) Jim was the one who stood out as the funniest, most talented person on the show. His physical comedy was so extreme he just blew everyone else out of the water.

Good the see someone took the time here to point out Jim Carrey. Yes he put I smile on my face as well when I was younger. He is one of a kind that child loving hollywood will never ever deserve no more if it ever had. He is a legend beyond that evil wich is hollywood.

    I know how Jim feels.
I've been working my whole life for some kind of security or success, I feel like I don't know myself.
Now that I no longer work for a living, I don't know who I am, I need to know me. What is the purpose of it all.
So I meditate and get to know my family again, and someday i'll get to know myself as well.

Jim like Robin Williams, isn't only able to make you laugh, he's also able to make you cry through dramatic roles, I remember crying a lot when I saw him in The Majestic, which is one of those movies make you cry when you see them for first time. Furthermore, I have a feeling that the entire world will not be prepared when Jim doesn't exist on this Earth anymore😪

@jimmythegiant I am really impressed with the consistency and improvement of you videos. the original series with action sports was a organic topic for you. I like to see all the journalism and writing skill you have acquired being used for in-depth stories like these. maybe a full documentary with a team of filmmakers like "yes theory" or like "knowing better". currently i think your work is the bright side to sunnyV2's Darkness and horror stories. yin and yang.

Jim Carrey, Robin williams, MIchael Richards and and a Swedish guy called Robert Gustavsson are absolute comedy geniuses. It's a shame that Robin died and the other three are old and pretty tired now, but at least they had long and crazy careers with many of the best moments in TV/movie history. Robert the Swede is like Jim and he's very good at total apes-t physical comedy characters and imitating people and doing different accents accurately (unfortunately most of them only apply to Swedes, lol). It's cool that Jim is also an artist painter

Nice you started a podcast too. Im actually flabbergasted you dont have a bunch of music videos or started your own rap career. Which seems like LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THE WORLD does ESPECIALLY UA-camrs. Naw but for real congratulations on your success, I love your videos and all the topics you cover. Its fairly unique to most youtubers and you dont do the same story/video you see from 100 different channels all covering the same exact story/video/topic. Even if you end up covering a topic a bunch of people talk about, you put a lot of work into it, cover it very entertainingly. Cheers Mate

I remember In Living Colour in the early 90s, when it was on Sky One. I loved it, and his mid90s movies are a staple for anyone growing up in that wonderful timeline. I actually think his best work was The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine.... The latter being something you can take more from with each watch, especially if youve been going through a break up yerself. And being an early 90s teen, Sonic was a huge deal. So its great to see him look like he's havin a Ball as Robitnik there. Great video. Love these insightful essays on pop culture characters.
