- Today we are going to learn about Contoura vision LASIK, many ask the question what is Contoura blade and Contoura bladeless?
Some are not aware that Contoura also can be done with the blade, they think that Contoura is only bladeless. Contoura is a brand just like Bravia is to Sony or Galaxy is to Samsung, Contoura is to the Wavelight laser manufactured from Alcon. So note that Contoura is a brand, it is a patented terminology from Alcon itself.
This is the Wavelight laser from Alcon which treats your spectacle powers using Contoura technology. Maps are taken using an Oculyzer during your consultation, this data is then used during your LASIK procedure. The data is like a fingerprint of your eye.
There are 2 steps in LASIK. Step 1 is the preparatory step to create the corneal flap. Step 2 is the actual treatment of your spectacle powers using a laser.
A blade or a laser which is bladeless is used in the preparatory step, blade is applied to the first transparent layer of the eye called the cornea, an automated microkeratome using a blade makes this corneal flap if you are undergoing LASIK using a blade.
Bladeless LASIK uses a Femtosecond laser to make the corneal flap, hence in bladeless Contoura LASIK 2 lasers are used 1st is the Femtosecond laser for making the corneal flap, 2nd is the Wavelight laser from Alcon the only patented laser to do Contoura.
Step 2 is the actual Contoura LASIK treatment which is done using the Wavelight laser.
The data from the Oculyzer maps which are like a fingerprint analysis of your eye are used to perform Contoura LASIK

Are There Variation In Results Of Blade and Blade Less Lasik?
Bladeless preserves more of the corneal thickness in tact so it's better for those with thin corneas. It'll also heal faster I'm led to believe.
Can I have Contoura with PRK opening instead of LASIK? I have a high prescription and not the largest of corneas so would rather not use a flap.
is bladeless contura vision is detected by fundus test or slit- lamp test .plz reply ma'am
Fundus examination does not detect any laser treatment done on cornea, which is any form of LASIK in Contoura. But if an experienced surgeon checks with slit lamp examination, there is a possibility of finding the flap mark. Many candidates have done LASIK and have been accepted in Railway, Airlines etc. As without the laser surgery, there chances are nil due to 6/6 requirement without glasses. So, laser increases their chances , therefore they still do it
