Thanks for your very good, practical video describing how to mix thin set. I finished mixing mine yesterday and laid tile for the last half of my downstairs bathroom. My 50lb bag of thin set called for 4.5 - 5.5 L of water. By weight, 25 lbs would need 2.5 to 3 litres of water. Turned out just about right with a decent creamy slump.
Really enjoy your content, style, and delivery. I am learning a ton, including recognizing prior mistakes, but you've taken a bit of the anxiety away from my wife and I on this bath remodel.
I've seen so many videos that beat around the bush and only show full bag mixture. I'm putting down Schluter Ditra with unmodified thin set. Getting the mix right was crucial for full coverage. Your video will help many a DIY home owner!
Rather than using an (from my perspective) less accurate measuring method like grabbing a bag, why not just focus on the right consistency during mixing? You can always add a little water or a little thinset. Thanks for your videos
Thank you. Wow that is way more watery than I am getting by mixing exactly the max amount of water that is called for on the bag. I am mixing a whole bag so I know the water to thinset mixture ratio is accurate but it is way dryer than you have there. I typically add some extra water too but it is still dry compared to yours. I will add more water now since you obviously have good results with that consistency.
Makes better sense (to me) to put water in gradually rather than to put water in advance?...also I would think some kind of volume "measuring cup" of material is much more accurate than measuring the bag's level ...like have two identical coffee cans or whatever and use X number of cans to x number of cans of water ...the bag is all flexy floppy so depending on how wide it is opened could make dramatic difference to a vertical measurement ...but I do get how allergic people are to extra effort ...particularly contractors who typically dont give a rat's ass they ONLY want to get done and get PAID...I hate the typical contractor mentality
All water first because it will save the life of your drill. I'm just trying to help people out here without being too technical I don't know how much easier I can make it. If you want exact measurements then go look on the back of the bag and it explains it all
I am sooooo glad I watched this before opening the bag of thinset. Thank You!

Great advice on marking sections on the bag, I was about to pour the entire bag to avoid miscalculating the water amount. Thanks!!!
Glad it helped!
Thanks a lot. Wish I saw this one before I put up three rows of tile!
Thanks, straight to the point and explained well.
Thx
great tips for measuring using the bag! thanks!

I'm a weekend warrior and do a lot of my own work.. I've found if i mix thinset about the same consistency as peanut butter it works best.

Great video, man. Thank you!
Thank you Christopher!
big help
Cool! Great video👍

What is the average working time before the thinset hardens?
In the bucket probably 3 hours. On the wall or floor around 5 minutes before it skims over.
Thanks
Thx for give your time to help
Thank you sir I love your videos
Your welcome Steven and I'm happy to help.
This was my very first time ever doing tile work , your video are very helpful

Yes, add more water.
This video helped thank you.
+cory w glad to help!
Good info!
If you are doing mosaics and don't need a lot of thinnest, is it ok to mix by hand?
yes!
Thank you brother that was very informative
Your welcome
thank you for this mark bags
Yw
that mixer is bad ass!!
Donde puedo comprar la mixer
thanks for the help but why not trade inches for pounds?
Sure could have done it that way but I chose to do it this way you make it easy as possible
I used my DeWalt and burnt up the motor.... Buying the correct mixing drill is well worth.
how much for drill mixer used in this video?
depends on what you get. aacheck online at Harbor Freight tools
LovHope Compassion If you are doing a small job, why buy one? Most hardware stores will rent tools out. That would be cheap.
What's the background music?!!
My intro and outro??? It's called " Full Beach Party"
What if it is too thin?
add more powder..
