  • St. Paul’s Bay is a village located in the North of Malta along its Northern coastline. Its municipality includes the neighbouring villages of Buġibba and Qawra, as well as a few smaller localities which include Xemxija and Mistra. Traditionally, St. Paul’s Bay was known as a fisherman’s village, similar to Marsaxlokk, although it’s lost a little of its character with the area’s development as a popular tourist destination. The village’s name refers to Saint Paul’s shipwreck. According to the Bible, he was shipwrecked on an island while travelling from Caesarea to Rome and it is believed that this island was Malta. Saint Paul is believed to have introduced Christianity to the Maltese.

I lived there from 1984 to 1985 in my early teens, in a flat on one of the side streets, there is a staircase right next to the flats now. I returned to work in Malta in 1990 , where I worked in Village crafts the shop that is still closed and I haven't got a clue why. It was a beautiful shop that sold crystals and was like working in a treasure cave. At that time we lived in a house opposite the tower. I returned for two holidays recently, in 2018 and 2019, I stayed in Santa Maria hotel first time, it felt like being in youth hostel, wouldn't recommend it. Then to celebrate my 25th Wedding anniversary I returned with hubby and stayed at the Bugibba hotel and loved it, would totally recommend it. The best spot for breakfast was Bognor Regis down on the front and the best restaurant, especially if you like rabbit was the Black Bull in the square. So I have experience I have of the place is spanning from when I was 15 to 49 and it has changed, I remember Crest being the main shop, lol. but in some ways its stayed the same, and always feels so alive and magical to me. Thank you Steve for sharing this.

Steve, to answer your query at about 3:30, the Maltese Dghajsa is the sleek water taxi, exampled by the boats that serve between Valetta and the Tri-Cities. The Luzzu is the traditional Maltese design that serves specifically as a fishing boat.
