“This is weird but in a good way” literally applies to every song of soad
And every member
Yeah when I'm explaining their music to my friends that is exactly what I say lol
1st album for a new listener. That's how we started lol
absolutely
You're in one for hell of a journey! Glad you're checking them out & liking what you here so far, one of my all time favorite bands!
Yeah, I'm so glad I decided to dive into their music! This first album was awesome and exceeded my expectations, I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of their discography.
@ARTV You should give her a shout out on your channel. These reviews are great, also super entertaining to see someone react to some of my favorite music for the first time! She definitely deserves more views/ subscribers!
@@mollyesanborn Their later albums keep getting better, tho I love SOAD as an album due to it's "unique" sound
@@mollyesanborn In their later albums they seem to also embrace their armenian heratage a lot more with instrumentals and subject matter
OG channel
This is a stand out album from the metal scene in the late 90s/early 2000s. The next album Toxicity is every bit as amazing while showing huge progression in song writing from the first album.
Can't wait to give it a listen!
@@mollyesanborn Dude, it's gonna be awesome...
I much prefer their first album. It's the perfect mix of SOADian eccentricity with a rawer, darker sound that you didn't really find in Toxicity and then Steal This Album.
There's songs that feed and songs that are feed, toxicity (album) is feed
"It's so manic and crazy, but, I love it, I absolutely love it" that's S.O.A.D. in a nutshell. When Sugar hit the radio no one knew what to make of it, then the whole album came out and people were blown away. They are masters of organized chaos. Peephole & Spiders are my favorite tracks on this great album. Cannot wait for you to listen "Toxicity" their follow up album to this one (as well as the rest of their discography). Loved this video, your reactions to each track were the same ones I had back in 98. PLEASE keep up the great work!
Masters of organized chaos sums them up perfectly! So much going on but it's somehow not too much, it all works in a funhouse sort of way. Glad you enjoyed the reaction, and I look forward to hearing the rest of SOAD's discography!
SOAD is one of those bands, that made all of their Albums entertaining, unique and touching. My personal favorite - Steal This Album! Enjoy your journey 😊
Yes, this first album from them was so entertaining! I'm excited to hear the rest of their albums.
SUCH a great record to start with for this band! Most would have told you to start with their second album Toxicity, but going from the beginning just makes it a richer experience.
Still their best album and it's not close. Serj is truly unhinged here and I adore it.
System of a down is one of the best bands! And probably one of the better polítical bands
they did the best nu metal debut.
This album, and all the discography of Soad is amazing. I'm happy you started to listen to it!
I'm happy I started listening to them too! Can't wait to hear the rest of their albums.
Instantly obsessed with this channel! Love Molly’s face when she hears something unique and interesting it’s a mix of confusion and excitement 😂🤘🏻🤘🏻
Haha, thanks! Glad you're liking the channel :)
If you like the melodic nature of the vocals, you'll definitely enjoy their later albums
I'm looking forward to hearing them!
This album was playing when I got my first tattoo. A week later, I went back to the shop to get the band's name. I needed it in my life.
I love that "LIKAMOTHEFUKA" in the end of Suite-Pee :)
By the way, thank you for your reactions, they really make my day(especially when I see a familiar band/album).
Thanks, glad you enjoy them! :)
I absolutely loved this reaction! I was nine when I first heard Sugar in a video game and it changed my life. This album is one of my all time favorites, I remember feeling scared listening to it but I couldn't take it out of my Discman. This video unlocked a lot of special memories for me. Also, most of that jazz sound is inspired by Armenian Folk music. The band continues to embrace that style even more on Toxcicity. You should do that album next!
Thanks for watching! I love that jazzy quality to their music, that's really cool that they incorporate Armenian musical elements in their sound. I'm really looking forward to Toxicity!
Madden?
Honestly you’ve just earned a subscriber! It’s not every day I see someone start with the first SOAD album. Usually one gets into them by their hits (Chop Suey, etc.) but I think the first album is the hardcore SOAD fans choice and for very good reason. I’m glad there is someone like me that looks at the band beyond just the hits.
Thank you! Honestly I've been living under a rock when it comes to SOAD and their music and had no idea what tracks were considered their hits, so I just picked their first album to start with. It'll be cool to hear their evolution from the beginning through the rest of their discography.
Chop Suey is one of their weaker tracks in my opinion so I always get disappointed when someone reacts or plays a soad song. Always Chop Suey.
@@SiriusBigbaddait’s one of their best songs and i’m a hardcore soad fan
Love your videos!
Your reviews are well done & descriptive.
While my music tastes are a bit different from yours, you always introduce me to new styles!
Hope you keep them coming.
Hell yeah! Love to see you doing this! I dig this a lot
Thanks for watching :D
I really loved your video. Looking forward to seeing you reacting to SOAD. Greetings from Spain!
Based on similarity I'd also recommend the band Mr. Bungle. Mr. Bungle's self-titled album from 1991 was in a lot of ways a template for System of a Down's style. afterwards they did Disco Volante, which took them a bit away from their metal roots and more in the direction of experimental jazz and artsier rock music. then they did California, which is kind of a pop album but with all the wacky experimentation and genre diversity that is part of their signature style.
Everything Mike Patton touches turns into gold.
Fantomas 2001 The Director's Cut
California might be better
California is awesome
Agree on exploring Mr. Bungle.
I love how open-minded you are with music. You really know how to appreciate different styles and how to get inside a song and understand all the different components of it. This truly is a wild trip of an album and one of the best debuts of all time. My dream in life is to be able to make a piece of art that’s on the same level as it.
By the way, have you ever seen the show Freaks and Geeks? You look a lot like Sarah Hagen, the actress who played Millie on there.
Aw thank you! I really appreciate that. And yes, this album is truly a creative masterpiece. Still one of my favorites out of all the albums I've done videos for here on my channel. As for Freaks and Geeks, I have seen it (multiple times haha), I love that show. Wish there was more than one season. I've gotten the Millie comparison a lot, I can totally see a resemblance.
The lyrics are great. They are really good at putting deep lyrics with broad yet also specific meanings, usually aimed at politics and social structures.
Nice pfp lol
Love your reactions Molly! I wish I could hear SOAD for the 1st time again.
Thanks for reviewing the album. Fav band!
Unexpected reaction, Love System!!
Please do a reaction of the rest of the albums, love you!!
Based on their first album I am very excited to hear the rest!
Yes I think you’ll absolutely love toxicity!
If you like the first Album, you won't be disappointed in the rest.
Do all the Deftones Albums too, if you have the time.
I actually started with Deftones reactions here on my channel and have become a huge fan! I have a playlist called Deftones with all of my reactions if you're interested. I just have Diamond Eyes left to listen to :)
You keep reacting to great albums!
Seeing somebody listen to this wonderful album for the first time just makes me really happy, this was an excellent reaction! I'm usually not a big fan of reaction videos , or atleast the way they are usually executed, but this was great! Can't wait to see you react to the rest of their discography , you earned a new sub! Keep it up!
Aw thank you, glad to hear you enjoyed the video. I am very excited to hear the rest of their albums!
I'm glad you loved it and hope you'll react to the others, if you like the vocal harnonies on that last one, you won't be disappointed, that's what made most of their sound later on
In my opinion their first album is far better than anything else they've done since.
Idk toxicity is a really really good album
@@OJAddict It is but there's something extra special about this one
toxicity is great but self titled is more raw and heavy its my fav as well
@@Waldo666ify yeah the mixing is just bone crushing, everything is loud, serj has distorted growls, all of them are going 180% on this album.
AFAIC the Mesmerize/Hypnotize double album is a serious contender. But although I have a soft spot for their debut album, I can't really say one is better than the other. Two very different atmospheres, with different qualities... they're both great in their own unique way. Toxicity is just overrated, lol.
First time watching one of your videos, but I have to say how impressed I am with the depth of reflection and awareness to what you’re listening to, as well as open-mindedness. Def subbed during this vid
Thank you, I really appreciate that!
i've love to watch your reaction to the rest of the albums!
I'm certainly planning on it, can't wait to hear what else SOAD brings to the table :)
I loved vicariously living again the amazing first listen to SOAD, thanks for such lovely reaction and wonderful commentary.
That makes me happy to hear, so glad you enjoyed the reaction :)
i really like your channel. keep up the good work!! nice content!
Thanks, I appreciate that! Glad you're enjoying the videos :)
Great reactions to every song. Its awesome to see you go through a whole album instead of just the "hits"
The way you can analyze all the different music i would love for you to react to some " cypress hill" or "the psycho realm" 90s hip hop
Yeah, I find that doing a whole album as opposed to a single track makes for a more interesting and well-rounded listening experience, at least for me anyway. I'll definitely check out Cypress Hill and The Psycho Realm, thanks for the suggestions :)
Back in 2001 when i was like 12 years old ive discovered this album and was blown away by the stuff ive heard. Soad self titled opened up the metal floodgates for me
The only other band that I can think it compares to SOAD in musical combinations is probably Faith No More, specially in Angel Dust
Other people have been mentioning Faith No More, I will have to give them a listen soon.
well there's also Mr. Bungle, Faith No More's wackier and more interesting little brother, who have the same vocalist. i'd say their self-titled album was a major influence for System of a Down.
They were inspired by Slayer and The Dead Kennedys.
I'd never thought about it but now that I think about it Mike Patton and serj tankien should form a super group.
Some of TMV, some of Ephel Duath
Haha I love these videos and I love your smile... This album has a lot to laugh/smile about
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the reaction :)
Great video! System of a Down was my childhood, It's so good seeing other people's first reactions to their music. You've got yourself a new sub ;)
Aw, thanks! Glad you enjoyed the reaction :)
Their sound really evolves over time. Always love watching people discover them!
I forgot how good Cubert was lol. And loving you channel. So insightful and really put things into words I cannot. Great work thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks, I appreciate that! I just love music and I'm glad these little videos that I make are resonating with people that share that passion for music :)
I was a teen when System of a Down's debut came out. I can remember hearing "Sugar" on the radio for the first time, and my mind being blown. There wasn't anything like it on the radio at the time. The combo of hearing "Sugar" and "Push It" by Static-X introduced me to music that was complex, heavy, and musically challenging. So you can say that SOAD was instrumental in my next stage in musical evolution! I'd say it started with Soundgarden, Tool, SOAD, and Static-X!
Man, I'm really intrigued to hear Static-X and Soundgarden now!
Just love this album. My fav SOAD album for sure 🙏
Their discography is a real journey, i Hope you will check rest of their albums!!!
I definitely will be giving the rest of their albums a listen!
Great stuff!!! This was definitely a welcome surprise! SOAD is an awesome band with some wacky deep cuts. Love listening to the way you digest music! You definitely have respect for musical nuance, and you dissect things pretty intelligently! Subbing for more
Also, I nominate The Work by Rivers of Nihil for a video! It's my album of the year!
Thank you, I really appreciate that! I will have to check out that Rivers of Nihil album, thanks for the recommendation.
Great! Love such things
I got the album not long after hit the store shelves and it blew me away and it was kind of fun watching somebody else experience it for the first time and how amazing this album is. A masterpiece that has kept me entertained for years
Yes, what an entertaining album! Glad you enjoyed my reaction :)
Good shit, thank you for doing this
I love making these videos, thanks for watching :)
Great review. Watching this helped me re-live this album for the first time again.
That makes me happy to hear! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Big soad fan here! I just loved your reaction! Hope you can react to their other albums too
Thank you for watching! I definitely plan to react to the rest of their discography.
Awesome. Looking forward for them.
Great video
suggestions is the goat
You're gonna love their 2nd album. Their best work, imo.
A masterpiece of an album!
Awesome
Nice video, the first metal album I ever bought
Molly!!! You sure are the best UA-cam reactor out there. Sure hope you keep on making interesting content
Thank you, I appreciate that! I love making these videos and hearing new artists, glad you're enjoying the content.
I've been wanting someone to react to this entire album and before anything else for years. It's just how many of us first started out. We had just the one album and it was marvelous.
VERY good reaction to an epic album. I'm lucky enough that I was like 12 when this came out and really getting into music
Loved this! Subbed :) Hope to see you do more SOAD !
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video! I loved this album and am planning on reacting to the rest of their discography :)
Great reaction, hope you'll continue to listen to their other albums.
Absolutely, I'm looking forward to it!
5:53 - loved that reaction!
I love SOAD, their Toxicity album is perfect to me! Definitely looking forward to your reaction!
Amazing breakdown
Thank you!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts about anything by Converge
Whelp, here's another album that I had to listen to before watching your video because I hadn't heard this album before. I have heard a bunch of SOAD's singles and the Toxicity album in full but hadn't taken the time to listen to any of their other music. Man is this album good. It's so manic and all over the place but it ends up working. Since you liked this album I think you will really like Toxicity.
Cool, glad you gave this album a listen! I agree, it's so crazy and manic but in an awesome way. I'm looking forward to Toxicity :)
you are a boss for this, best band!
I admire that you have encouraged yourself to analyze entire albums, I think that is not normal in this type of video format, greetings from Peru :D
Thanks, glad you are enjoying the format :)
I hope you get more subs, great content.
Thanks, I appreciate that :D
Ohoho 1st time... nice!
One the best nu metal albums of the history
I like when you react to really heavy music/ keep going
Thanks for watching :)
I think you'll find a deeper appreciation for the album when you look into the lyrics and history of the band. Some goofy lyrics and theatrical delivery did little to water down the potent message they push through their lyrics. Serjs writing is often a highpoint for System of a Down tracks
I personally loved your vídeo and I really would like to see you rank of the SOAD albums after listen all of them.
Thanks for watching! I'll consider doing that when I've heard them all :)
Thanks for reminding me I have to get back to my roots
Spiders and Peephole couldn't be more different from each other and they're my two favorite songs from this wild album. You're in for a ride.
I think you had the same reaction as Rick Rubin (their producer) when seeing them for the first time. Quoting Rick "I remember watching the show and laughed the entire time, but in a good way. They were so over the top and extreme" Can´t wait for your next SOADs reaction video, I enjoyed so much this one :D
Someone else shared a link to that interview in the comments! It's very true though, this first soad album just had me smiling the whole time. So extremely entertaining!
Funny that you just mentioned The Mars Volta. I've already left you a comment in the other video for Mesmerize or hypnotize whichever one it was but Mars Volta opened up for them. Thanks for bringing that up now I think I'm going to have to listen to a little more Mars Volta
SOAD is TIMELESS! My first album from them was actually Hypnotize and Mezmerize, and in those albums there is definitely a lot more hard melody to appreciate. God bless!
Looking forward to hearing those albums from them!
This along with White Pony were coming of age albums of mine. SOAD grabs your attention and forces you onto the ride. Really worth looking into the Lyrics of "WAR" and "Pluck" as they speak to their main political talking point: recognition of the Armenian genocide.
Amazing
I`d love to see you react to Korn´s first Album. Great Video!
5:53 is the part I was looking forward the most, to find out what reaction it would get from you. Didn't disappoint lol
Discovering these songs, blasting in your ears when you were a teen and life was so intense... it was really something
gotta do their album toxicity! its a bit less manic/bizarre, and has a more matured sound. both albums are fantastic!
Nice Reaction x)
Thanks for watching!
I had the same reaction when I listened to them back in the day. It sure is a wild ride.
Spiders is easily my fav track here. And also the ending of "Sugar", it's so intense... I can't wait for you to react to Prison Song on their next album :D
Spiders is such a great track, I agree. Can't wait to hear Prison Song!
@@mollyesanborn You'll see, then. The reason why I love Sugar's ending (the "No light/No music" part that you featured on your video) is the same reason why I love Prison Song's bridge. They explore similar ideas in terms of structure and it's the best! ^_^
Nice video! I highly recommend the album Elect the Dead by Serj Tankian, the vocalist of System of a Down, his voice is extremely different from that of this album
Would love to see you react to Toxicity and Steal This Album! My two favourite SOAD records! :) Truly one of the greatest.
I definitely plan on it!
A well-crafted review, i am glad i have found your channel. Cant wait for you to react to Mezmerize album! It is also incredibly rich and diverse. You could say it was made at the peak of SoAD's career. As a fellow russian, i would recommend listening to a russian rock band called "Ariya", especially their album "Playing with fire", you might enjoy it!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! I will check out your recommendation :)
You seem really cool. Keep the videos coming. Can't wait until you get to mr. bungle
Thanks, glad you're enjoying the videos! I'm looking forward to hearing Mr. Bungle.
What a journey you were embarking on
your really good at music perception!
Thank you, I really appreciate that! :)
Oh fricking god. You already like their first album, i don't even know how much you'll love toxicity and mezmerize. You're an SoaD fan already, i can't wait for the other reactions i hope they're coming soon :)
I'm looking forward to hearing them!
@@mollyesanborn Nice, when is the next System of a Down Video coming?
Not sure yet, I can't wait to hear it though so probably sooner rather than later!
Oh man this is probably my favorite band ever with rage against the machine and tool close behind. Every single system album is a classic. I wish we could one day get a new album from them but unfortunately they dont get along well enough to do a full album now.
Their best album. Nice reaction!
new favorite band incoming
There are two tracks that were exclusive to the album's Japanese edition and were released later in the "Lonely Day" and "Sugar" singles: "Marmalade" and "Störagéd", respectively.
Interesting, I'll have to give those a listen.
Another great album I really like your reactions to hearing it for the first time! I am going to ask for your top three songs on this album I just found your channel and I’m gonna be doing it for the next three albums you reviewed for System of a Down I want to hear your take.
Glad you're enjoying the videos! I'd say my favorites from their self titled are Suite Pee, Suggestions and Mind. Such a hard decision though, the whole album is great.
Great picks
I suggest you check out "Storaged Melodies" album on youtube. It's more of a compilation of their older releases, covers & demos, but you can definitely notice their evolution and origins there. There are bunch of great and interesting songs on it as well. It's a hidden gem.
