Since the Unbound race this tire seems to be perfect for me, as I ride around 40% - 50% tarmac/asfalt, and often another 20% or 30% brick roads, and rest is a huge mixture of gravel, single-track, hard sand, shell-roads. Lots of roads have broken tarmac, and things get you shake all over. Rarely on Mountainbike roads. But yes, I would love to have your opinion if you make a decent ride (say 50km) on mostly tarmac/asfalt, will road bike laugh at you and go twice as fast or is it only slight slower? And is it possible to use them more difficult terrain, easier mountainbike trail, say through a forest, uphill, just doing it a bit slower ?
On paper, it sounds like the perfect tire for fast gravel and light rough stuff. Obviously it will not be able to handle the muck and mud on some sections. On my BWR preview ride on Sunday, I'll have some tarmac, lots of gravel, and a tame mountain bike trail all in one ride. I'll do my best to film and get some feedback put together.
I’ll be sure to update as I spend some time on these. I’m always out to find the fastest tires, for both road and gravel, and these are said to be it for gravel.
let us know how the tires work out. Don't give up on Orange Seal, I dont think it was the sealant that let you down. I plan to run these tires next year.
It may be that the orange seal just wasn’t fresh enough for the day. But, the experience has kind of soured me on it. I’ll give the Muc Off a chance and see how it does. Once I get some miles on these tires I’ll report back.
Great video, super keen to hear your thoughts on the tires. What's the inner rim width on your wheels? Trying to find a set here in Oz and very limited availability!
I’ve actually already put together my initial impressions in a video. Take a look on my channel for that. The inner width of the wheels I’m using is 20c. Eventually I’d like to get a more gravel focused wheelset with a wider inner with of 25c+.
@@JMCyclingVideos ah great will have a look. I picked up a set of Roval Terra CL , great price, light weight 1400g and DT Swiss 350 hubs. They have a 25mm ID. Excited to use them in the first race of the year.
While this is possible, yes, I've been told that the material in the sealant can't pass easily through the valve. I used to do the valve method, but if the sealant can flow through that, it can flow through a hole. The orange seal I don't think would make a difference because it doesn't have much chunky material in it. The Muc off sealant on the other hand is visibly chunky.
@@JMCyclingVideos this is only for Stans Race sealant which has the largest particles. I've used MucOff for years and through the valve no issues. Have injected maybe 6 or 7 different types of sealant through the valve, on maybe 300+ MTB/gravel/road tyres, many with inserts (Cushcore, Tubolite, Vittoria Airliner) and it's not an issue. Not necessary to be paranoid about flowing sealant through the hole. The sealant literally sloshes into the valve hole on every pedal stroke. Clogged valves are symptom of old sealant building up around the rubber portion of the valve over a longer period of time or sealant building up around the actual core (which happens every time you pump up your tyres anyway). Best valves are Reserve Filmore valves, which don't require core removal to inject the sealat and never clog.
It’s just bad form to do sealant through a valve my friend… no bike nechanic would ever do this. Through the bead is quick, easy, and no mess. We just don’t do the initial air up like in the video. We set up the tire and before fully seating it we add the sealant, inflate, done.
@vanduro9103 this is the biggest load of BS if I've ever read. It's literally in every manual from the sealant manufacturer, valve manufacturer and tyre manufacturer. There is only two situations where it's not recommended and that's Race Sealant from Stans as it contains particularly large particles and two if using Tubolite inserts where it's a 2 channel tyre insert which effectively seals off the inner chamber to the outer. "No mechanic ever". New level of K00kery on the UA-cam comments section.
Seems to work just fine for me. I just popped the tire off to see how the sealant has held up after ~5 months. Muc-off says it'll last 6+ months. Keep an eye on the channel for a short video showing how it's held up so far.
@@JMCyclingVideos Watched it. Thanks for the update. Glad to hear they're going strong at 1500 miles. Definitely a more pricey tire. Literally just picked up a pair of 45s- gonna install em right now :)
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed mine. Did recently have one puncture but put a plug in and continued on and it’s still good.
These tires are great! Fast and comfortable on the road and good on gravel! I highly recommend them to anyone thinking about them, just do it. 👍🏽💯
Totally agree!
What about flats? Are ok?
Around how many miles can ride on the rear?
Doubt between this or cinturato M or H or RS..
Thanks

Adding Cushcore Gravel CX is another good solution to lower the air pressure
Check out a few videos ahead. I added Vittoria airliners. Also good to note, no flats during Unbound this year with this set up!
No need to break the seal, you can inject the sealant via the valve using any smaller bottle (even your old orange seal bottle).
