Ive been a zep fan for a long time but didnt know until recently that it was JPJ who was the real mando expert. I assumed that was all Page because he happened to play it on Battle of Evermore. There is a live instrumental version with JPJ and a guitarist performing this and it is mindblowing
I really think Roberts verse “Standing on a hill in the mountains of dreams, telling myself it not as hard as it seems” was one of his best written ones.
The girl with flowers in her hair refers to Joni Mitchell who lived in the California hills outside Los Angeles. IMO Led Zeppelin's most electrifying live performance (among so many!) is "In My Time of Dying" from this same show.
The "Girl" in the song is Joni Mitchell a great singer in her own right, Review her songs in you didn't yet Here is one of of them: Joni Mitchell - Woodstock (Live In-Studio 1970)
Yup. I still have my vinyl Court and Spark by her and two other from Joni. She wrote Woodstock and handed it off the CSN to perform at Woodstock because she had someplace else to be. Love Joni's music.
This is my most favorite song of all time. I'm in my 60s. It's been a minute. I agree with you on all points. I was one of those hippie fields. California has blown up. So very sad. It was a beautiful place and I lived during these musically awesome times.
After the release of 'Led Zeppelin III' in 1970, the band would do an acoustic set in their concerts... Led Zeppelin would play 3 hr shows often w/ no opening band or act, so fans could get the entire Zeppelin experience - the heavy and the mellow. This concert was filmed at London's Earl's Court Arena (where Pink Floyd would play regularly) in 1975 on Zeppelin's European & UK tour... Sadly, just months after this was filmed, Robert Plant was involved in a near-fatal car accident while on vacation in Greece w/ his family (reportedly his 2 kids and Jimmy Page's daughter were involved)... Plant's wife Maureen barely survived and Plant himself had crushed his ankle and was unable to walk for over a year... Led Zeppelin could not tour again until 1977.
I've been listening to Led Zeppelin since the 70's and l have to admit, every time l'm listening to them, whichever song it is, it's "Oh, this one's my favorite!"🤩 But, this one, particularly, this live version is my go-to whenever l'm stressing out or just having a bad day...put on my headphones, close my eyes and the stress just melts away....
Jonesy was playing mandolin on this one. In THE BATTLE OF EVERMORE, they switch instruments, with JPJ playing acoustic guitar and Page going ham on the mandolin. I think it's even better than GOING TO CALIFORNIA.
That song was part of a 3 song set I saw on the 2000 video box set of Zeps...Earls Court 1975. Now you have to hear 'That's the Way' from that set Bizmatic. Thanks
If you haven’t seen Whole Lotta Love live at Madison Square garden 1973…& In My Time of Dying live @ Earls Court 1975 2nd night….since I’ve been loving you 1973 Madison Square Garden…all of them are amazing!!!
That was pretty. I've never seen that. Thanks! ❤️✌️ Btw, I live in California. It's still beautiful here. And i wear a flower in my hair on occasion. Just sayin.
I don't think the devil lives anywhere. He doesn't exist as a person though as a concept he's used as a metaphor to explain things people don't understand and to take the blame for all the bad things in the world.
Most good band have a multi instrumentalists musician , Led Zep was no different. JPJ was there not so secret, secret weapon. Obviously an off the charts bassist, plus keyboardist, mandolin and guitar player. He also wrote many of their great songs, and did some producing. No bad for just a bass player. 😄
You're wrong JPP carried this song acoustically not JPJ! JPJ just highlighted Jimmy's playing on the mandolin Jimmy did more than just strum! He was doing a lot of intricate guitar plucking!
Gee, the hippies always getting a bad rap. That's a shame cause a lot of what some of them was about, was just living simply. Some of them made it by becoming self-sufficient. We have been lured away from self sufficiency into the Cities, the rat-race. Hippie culture got a bad rap from people like Charles Manson.
I'm sure some were just as you said, but the rabid communists & the lazy, non-bathing, free-love crowd killed anything positive that came out of it. I don't mention drug use either because it really doesn't amount to much compared to my Gen X. The difference is we'd just go to work the next day or go in still f'kd up🤪
@@gizzy2403 the problem is that every good idea or movement, gets hijacked by Fu*k wits, and they give the original idea a bad identity. @@gizzy2403 Who were the 'rabid communists?' These epithets sound like lazy slurs. It was a generation that was post war and certainly in the UK lived in straightened times in the 1950s, their childhood, as rationing still carried on into the 50s. They wanted and hoped for a peaceful future and a better life. They were idealists and creative, blossoming artistically and musically and changing life for the better for the most part though it was perhaps too idealistic to last.
@heliotropezzz333 in the US, the Civil Rights , anti-war & the feminist movements were all led by & filled with commies from Martin Luther King on down. Bolsheviks leading the charge just like today, but with different names like BLM, SPLC, ADL, LGBT calling everyone fascists, racists, homophobes, bigots, anti-semites, etc.. , just like the hippies did in the late 60s & 70s. Same Marxist bs dressed slightly different. Not all were commies, of course, but they were definitely supporting the commie agenda, knowingly or not
This performance is absolutely fabulous! JPJ was on the mandolin!

Agreed. "I wondered how tomorrow could ever follow today" is not too shabby either.

This and The Battle Of Evermore are just exquisite.
These campfire numbers by Zeppelin always put my mind in the right place.
lord have mercy..These guys send me every time..Robert omg..
GOATS
Wish they showed more of JPJ's playing!
He is the secret weapon for real!
JPJ on mandolin 👍 drummer John Bonham sets this one out
Since I’ve Been Loving You live next if you haven’t seen it yet 🔥
Love the live version of this song....
I love zeppelin live especially Robert’s vocals. Since I’ve been Loving You would be a great one to see live 😊
❤❤🔥 JPJ is quite an accomplished mandolin player. Thanks!!☮☮

I've seconded that and I believe I requested previously
Great tune... Plants vocals are fantastic, Jimmy on 6 string, JPJ on mandolin and Bonzo back there keepin it all together... beautiful

That was Unplugged!!! Awesome. Thanks Biz
JPJ was playing the Mandolin.
The GOATS!!! Nuff said Biz!!¡
Flower power😂Peace from France ✌️ (JPJ is playing mandoline on it....)
Beautiful ❤
A special song indeed
JPJ also know as John Paul (play anything) Jones on several songs is playing the keyboard while playing the baseline on foot pedals. He is amazing.
The Rain Song from this concert is a Must!
Going to California is in my top 4 favorite LZ songs along with Kashmir, Battle of Evermore and When the
Levee Breaks.
Jonesy was playing mandolin on this one. In THE BATTLE OF EVERMORE, they switch instruments, with JPJ playing acoustic guitar and Page going ham on the mandolin. I think it's even better than GOING TO CALIFORNIA.
Ever seen the instrumental version (going to california) with just JPJ and a guitarist? No vocals, just a jawdropping mando performance by JPJ.
I saw them in 1977 and they always did this acoustic set. Very cool and intimate

1 of my favorite songs by them. Really cool song.
TY friend. Made my night.
the girl who sings with flowers in her hair is Joni Mitchel
danka, fun stuff
Me: (sees JPJ mentioned in video's title)
Me: You have my undivided attention, good sir.
Always appreciate folks giving my boy Jonesy some love.
P.S. It's a little lengthy, but if you wanna see some more fine work by Jonesy, I recommend checking out "No Quarter" at Earl's Court 1975.
That was pretty. I've never seen that. Thanks! ❤️✌️
Btw, I live in California. It's still beautiful here. And i wear a flower in my hair on occasion. Just sayin.
No Quarter, live, from The Song Remains the Same( not the short version as it cuts out half the song). Thx

The instrument he was playing was a mandolin
Dammit, man! Do CODA! It's awesome!
Ann & Nancy do BATTLE OF EVERMORE.
Another song from 1971
Bron y aur stomp from the same concert next cuz...
You're wrong JPP carried this song acoustically not JPJ! JPJ just highlighted Jimmy's playing on the mandolin Jimmy did more than just strum! He was doing a lot of intricate guitar plucking!
They both did some impressive picking.
Yes Jimmy sure did carry the song. Love the intricate guitar picking. John provided the spice

What an ignorant statement about Cali, been a big supporter of yours but I guess you are a follower of what you hear and not a seeker of truth
