Fun Fact: If you listen closely, you’ll hear The World’s Most Dangerous Band end the show playing the closing theme of SNL. I asked Will Lee if he remembered why. He told me, “There were so many people at the end, it looked like an SNL closing!”
Any idea why Will flashed the letters “KAZ” on the back of his bass at 12:24?
@@andyrose5616 His then-wife.
That's so rock & roll... way too much so for TV nowadays.
Huey Lewis has looked 40 years old for 40 years. It's one of the unexplained mysteries of the world.
I can’t believe he’s only 36 here. Good-looking guy for sure, but he looks 10 years older.
Always liked Huey Lewis and The News. Great interview and musical performance. Thanks Dave!
Crazy that I'm 4 years older than he was here, and I definitely wouldn't have guessed that.
That's what happens when you do good on your "thing" and get into Cornell at 16.
Yea, seeing him here made me look up his D.O.B, he was 36, I'm 42, and he looks old enough here to be my dad.
I’m glad that the whole band was not only able to appear together, but perform twice.
--------------------------- theoretically 3 bands ......or 1 CBS unofficial orchestra ....thanks4sharing
Huey’s not only talented, but handsome and a fascinating talk show guest. Long time fan of him and the News!
Huey and The News was the only reason I clicked on this. Can't stand Letterman.
I got to install cable TV in Huey's hotel room in 85 Cable boxes were all being 'updated". he let me have a hot dog from a catering tray in his room lol.
Wow, seeing that sax solo performed live is something else
A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself. Hey Paul! ..."
Is that a raincoat?
@@charlieparkeris "Yes it is...!!!" 😂😂😂
This new performance really gives the song a big boost.
Saw Huey at the Seattle Coliseum back in 87 touring to promote this album. When they sang 'Hip to be Square', the Seattle Seahawks came out onstage to sing the chorus.
Still have my original vinyl of "Fore!" from when I was 8 years old. Huey and the band deserve any and all respect. A crime we're not able to see them live anymore. Legit musicianship.
Saw Huey Lewis & the News on the Fore! tour in Daytona Beach just 2 months before this aired. Great show. Robert Cray Band was the opener.
Both songs - absolutely incredible performances!
Huey is such a great guy. Amazing band ❤️
I LOVE when they do Naturally! What am I saying?! I love everything these guys have ever done! Best band ever!
Huey Lewis And The News is just brilliant! So underrated
Who doesn't love Huey Lewis... and The News!!!
Damn! They were great
Thanks Huey and Dave for my teenage entertainment.
I haven't seen this in years.
When it first aired, I recorded it on VHS, and was such a huge HLN fan, I would watch this whole interview and performance over and over. I still have the videotape!
I was a lucky devil and saw these guys during the re-opening month at The Fillmore in 1994 doing an R&B revue styled show. Amazing show! Didn’t do a single hit from 80s. Totally transformative versatility of talent…even Mario.
Fantastic performances and really cool with the whole band at the end
Letterman once said the one thing he misses about his late night shows are the live music……can’t blame him
Wow I almost forgot what music really was, until I watched this iconic blast from the past to remind me.
Loved it!
We miss you David!
If I was an adult in the 80s, I would totally have a Huey Lewis haircut
More Huey videos!!
The World's Most Dangerous Band and Huey Lewis and the News!!! Epic!!!
Those were the days 😊
Such killer bass playing.
Outstanding 80’s!
Love it!!!
Huey Lewis! What a hunk! Love that man! ❤
Dave and Barbara, a big thank you on behalf of the fans who have had this on grainy video tape for 37 years!
Huey Lewis was 36 here, I'm 42, if I time traveled back and stood beside him, he would look like my dad.
That was charming.
I remember seeing them on tour with the album Sports. Great live band!
MyMan (and Gents) - met him once when he was in CHICAGO on Broadway - went for my birthday and was lucky to get autographs for my CD sleeves from him and he was beyond cool and sweet.
Reminds me of Back To The Future
Careful ... they may be too loud. lol
This is so awesome!
Love this performance. I hope they figure out a way to get Huey's hearing back...he is a great performer!
Fantastic
This is a reminder to return your video tapes.
Okay, my brother is seven years older than me. He had the tape of Fore. I'm remembering every word of Naturally. I guess he played it that much? I have the tape now and have only played Hip to be Square and Stuck with You. Naturally was 35 years ago for me. 😀😧😵💫
Love it! Remember watching this! I wore this album out!!!
One of my favorite bands since the early days of MTV. They had some great music and videos. I still listen to them almost daily. Way better than the autotuned crapfest that is considered music today.
The News were the backing band on My Aim 🎯 Is True by Elvis Costello.
Actually, Clover was 👍
It was Clover, Huey’s previous band that featured keyboardist Sean Hopper from The News.
Damn he looked old in '87...37 years old
Have ya heard the news????
It's hip to be square!
I love that Huey Lewis is such a normal guy but he's a pop star; I've never seen a more humble talk show guest. It's like they plucked him out of a Chicago suburb and dropped him in front of a band. Hip to be square indeed!
What a solid and tight band.
Early 😊
Why can't I get Patrick Bateman out of my head?😅😂
Hootie and the News was one of my favorite bands from the 70s.
Huey Lewis & The News comes from the still great 80's era of great music & groups)bands...I was in my early 20's enjoying them & eatching Letterman. What a still great time before music started getting distorted (after the 90's) Huey was very handsome too ❤
Trying to remember what was considered “square” in 1987
First...and yes, it's hip to be square!
Fun "inside baseball" fact. Horns were sprayed down or just abused to achieve a matte finish. TV tech at the time would "flare" if trying to shoot a shiny brass instrument surface. Showbiz!
Comet tails, baby! Change your camera tubes regularly!
@@kz1000ps A classmate of mine decided to shoot a sunrise, not sure what the cost was, but you get it.

Dear dave ❤❤❤❤ thank uuuu
9:15 geht es los. Diese Männer waren und sind großartig! Und: Er kennt Jugoslawien 😂.
Icon of the 80s.
Love this yes huey is the Man 😊
Love Huey AND Dave.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 perfect and so funny 🎉🎉❤❤😂😂
When I saw this in my feed, I thought “oh no, Huey must have died”! But he’s OK.
Huey doesn’t suffer fools (Dave).
Waiting how many comments "HEY PAUL !!!" in this list 😂
I need to make a reservation at Dorsia. But first I have to return some videotapes.
They don't have saxophone 🎷 solos like that anymore
Yay Daddy. Forcing a gap year was brilliant.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I always kinda felt like Huey Lewis and the News was the American counterpart to Rockpile. Great bands, both.
Hello mr soundman......ummm, what happened to the snare mic? Left it on "mute" by any chance?
My first thought:
“Oh no! What happened to Huey Lewis?!?”
R.I.P. Huey.
Same here.
He’s still with us.
@@The_momuragree with you.
@@The_momurI don’t usually react that way - but this one scared me! The first thing I did was a quick Google.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This makes me think of `American Psycho` movie....Christian Bale did it pretty good in this movie
Hey paul
Why is Agent Smith in their band?
As a drummer I’ll never understand why drummers in the 80s had their crashes up so high😆
On that Letterman set, it was especially exaggerated for sight lines to the drummer. Was the same for everyone who played that gig, from Steve Jordan on. Very little space in that studio.
You do know why Huey named his band The News, he couldn’t spell Weather
Is that bass not miked or do I need better speakers?
two bass players?
Do you like huey Lewis and the news?
Wow, Huey Lewis dead too. I did not even know he was sick. I knew he had hearing issues. But did not know he was going to die. Sad. This channel really helps spread the word of celebrities passing on. They have a video for every celebrity that dies.
He didn't pass away.
@@erics4138 yeah right. When a celebrity dies, the channel releases a video of that celebrity. That is how it works
@@robinblackmoor8732 (common) sense chases a lot of people and yet you continue to avoid it. what a pity
They blew the roof off the dump
Let's see Paul Allen's performance.
RIP
You like Huey Lewis and the News?
Huey didn't die, did he?
I thought the same thing.
He's pretty much retired because of severe hearing loss. He cannot hear out of his left ear👂at all. 😢
Huey seems like a great guy but I always thought their music is corny. Even the title of this song. That being said I wish them the best.
Maudit tete carrée.
He’s been compared to Elvis Costello but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor
I’m afraid you’re just too darn loud. Next, please.
Bet hue Catch z
No thanks.
He sure licked his lips a lot.
Oh no, he didn't die, did he?
Yes, you fool
Overrated band from the 80's...garbage.
Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
@@burntvirtue Go eat that American Psycho BS review meat.
