It really was badass when the black reiatsu tore away and what was revealed was an incredibly OP Ulquiorra (who was already badass himself) alongside an ominously epic soundtrack in the background. One of the best scenes in Bleach IMO.
Also the buildup to the scene you're mentioning was pretty epic (and it also made this moment that much more epic), when that black flood of reiatsu came down on Uryu and Orihime.

I love the energy of Ulquiorra in this. When the soul reapers go into bankai, most of their expressions go to yelling it showing off their emotion, but Ulquiorra's equivalent of a bankai just gets a quiet "Segunda Etapa" to instill as much fear as possible into opponents in true hollow fashion.
I’m pretty sure for the hollow race them starting the menos line and becoming Gillians is the equivalent of a shikai, since both powerups are lieutenant level. I’d say reseruccion is the bankai equiavalent, since it’s usually shown in battle with the shinigami’s bankai. Segunda etapa is just a more trained and stronger version.

Barragan proved his resureccion to be stronger than Starrk, while Ulquiorra proved to be far stronger than Harribel with his own feats against Ichigo who was far stronger and more powerful than Hitsugaya. That's without Segunda Etapa by the way. Espada ranking is dumb anyway. Grimmjow would most likely beat Harribel if the reiatsu gap wasn't as wide, same with Nnoitra and Neliel.

Segunda Etapa which has similarly described and drawn Reiatsu to Final Getsuga Tenshou has no number, because he Aizen didn't see it to rank it. Even then the rankings are just Reiatsu (Mana) level, and not DPS and Tanking stats.
What I really liked about Ulquiorra is that he actually filled me with a sense of dread. Like I genuinely believed he was gonna kill everyone and the this would be the end of these characters. When he popped his second release I was thinking, "It's okay. He's a lot stronger now but Ichigo is gonna at least defend him-oh God he's getting bodied so badly..." I still held hope up until he crushed Ichigo's mask. At that point my spirit was broken. I really believed that this was it. Ichigo's gonna die then he's gonna kill Uryu and then Orihime. Then he's gonna kill anyone else that shows up and we're just gonna have to hope the Soul Reapers can handle Aizen cause this half of the battle is over. The only villain to ever have struck me with that same dread was Frieza after he powered up to "50%."
I think Kubo excels at that writing, creating a story where the characters really have no chance of winning. I remember that kept me tuned to Soul Society Arc knowing that Ichigo couldn't beat 13 captains if he was already dying to 1 lieutenant. Much less the time table he had to do it on, while also piling all those other friends getting captured on top of that _one_ friend that needed rescuing.
And then the Vasto Lorde came in and wooped that ass although it's not a bad thing if white ichigo (who was the vasto lorde remember back when he said that he'd take over if ichigo got killed or something along those lines) hadn't of stepped in ulquiorra would have most definitely killed uryu and orahimea (sorry if i typed it wrong)
The Frieza comparison is actually pretty apt. I had never really made the connection myself before, but it is there. The sheer despair of a form beyond form and then when our main hero finally takes the scene, filled with determination, he goes "I will power up to 50% now". When I first viewed DBZ all dem years ago, I honestly thought the spirit bomb was it, that would kill the tyrant for good. And then he comes, bruised but not dead nor beaten. Shame Bleach didn't deliver with the epic, tho way too long in the anime, fight that was Super Saiyan Goku vs 100% Frieza. The Hollow Ichigo was at this point such a copout of "I don't know how to get our heroes out of this situation" from Kubo.
Yash Gurav I mean if Orihime wasn’t a wimp and healed him before he evaporated, sure. The reason Dordoni, Cirucci and Charlotte came back was because he kept their corpses, which Mayuri reanimated. And Grimmjow, Nel and Halibel just didn’t die in the first place.

Who yamamoto in the same movie heavily implies to be stronger than him,and ulq can still hit him,cancel out his attacks and even tank some of his attacks. It's honestly a way better feat than fighting shikai shunsui(who was playing around and at 1 point pretended to be dead),Ukitake didn't really fight stark he only blocked a few ceros from him and 2 vizards that all got 1 shotted by base aizen after(except ukitake).
I like how Ulquiorra’s already strong base form leaves you wondering how powerful would his Ressurection be. Until this fight, when he finally transforms, he reveals not just one, but TWO ressurection forms. No wonder his foe can only hope to despair

I didn't see this as epic I saw it as Ulquiorra flexing on Ichigo and being the 2nd most disrespectful moment in the bleach anime just because it was completely unnecessary to use Segunda Etapa on Ichigo he was already bodying him in his 1st form he just was going overkill at this point lmao.

Yeah. Think about it, Ichigo was already struggling so hard with Ulquiorra’s base form despite having the mask. Then when he finally reveals his ressurection, Ichigo basically no longer had any hope to defeat him. To make it even worse, he freaking transforms a second time, like what’s the point of even fighting him
Yammy had the most POTENTIAL of them all. However, Aizen had not seen Segunda Etapa, which clearly (as demonstrated) by the show and the books, would've awarded Ulquiorra the rank of primera espada. One single attack of Segunda Etapa Ulquiorra dwarfed the instance of Las Noches. Yammy even in his (by that time) strongest form was far from achieving such a feat. And Yammy was controlled by his feelings while Ulquiorra was calm, calculative and cold. Thought goes a long way.
Sorry to hate on the people that don't understand metaphors and symbolism, and that writers often give characters dialogue to both misdirect and inform the audience and readers. Number is only given by amount of Reiatsu, not by combat strength. It's more like Mana than DPS. Those with more Mana get a higher number. Ulquiorra states there are those stronger than him he's only referring to his First Resurrection, because he is a true Sigma Male and isn't playing his entire hand. He Aizen hasn't even seen this form in order to inform the Reader, not Ichigo. Ulquiorra is perfectly fine with his position in the Espada. When Yami Transforms he turns to 0, because Aizen has seen that form and put a 0 on it. Segunda Etapa has no number, because Aizen hasn't seen it. I doubt anyone other than Ichigo, Orihime, and Ishida have ever seen it. Ulquiorra is the only natural Vasto Lorde. Only Ulquiorra's Segunda Etapa has reiatsu described as not feeling like reiatsu. It is described and drawn like black water flooding down, and like you are moving through water into it. This is like Aizen vs Ichigo when Aizen transforms and a pillar of liquid explodes, and Ichigo performs Final Getsuga Tenshou and explodes with black reiatsus that looks and sounds like water, and even has it visually wafting off him. Ulquiorra was the Teaser that there was something far above the paltry bullshit we were seeing from Gotei 13 and the rest of the Espada.
That's literally what he did, he was surprised Ichigo would not give up given the one sidedness of the fight, so he decided to flex his second stage Resurrection to really sink in the fact he won't win agaisnt him.

The Arrancars made from the Hogyoku have their Hollow Powers Essence remade into Zanpaktou and based off of Soul Reapers. They get a power boost and it shows. Ulquiorra's using his "Bankai" in all technicality. Segunda Etapa. I love it.
Imagine u get at 50% HP to do 0.1% damage and the boss goes: "Time for my first boss phase" Then that boss proceeds to take 49.9% of your HP and goes: "You know what? Last time I took 50% you did some damage right? Well... time for the second boss phase"

This was a Bankai for Arrancars and when Toshiro explained Vasto Lorde Arrancars would be stronger than a Captain, this is what there is. No other Arrancar unlocked it thus never truly surpassing Captain level.
This isn't what toshiro meant. Kubo stated tge second release can be achieved thru training. This means it isn't the vasto lordes natural power. So vasto lordes alone r above captain lvl. But shunsui unohana jushiro yammammoto and zaraki in this arc were on the extremely high tiers of captain lvl in comparison to avg captain lvl. So all the vasto lordes, being 4 and up were stronger than avg captain lvl. Yammy was an adhujas but had tge power of a vasto lorde
After all these years of watching bleach countless times i still find it for a fact that Ulquiorra was the strongest espada, for a world of hell he truly was a demon king. This is not even biased, all facts tell he's the strongest. The crazy thing was Ichigo was MASSIVELY outclassed by ulquiorra’s ressureccioj first form and felt total despair. Even bade ulquiorra pushed Ichigo to his limits. Now segunda etapa ulquiorra was absolutely destroying Ichigo.

Ulquiorra should have deposited his stats not in his healing but his offense and reiatsu. He explains that all of the other espada had deposited their development into pure power and reiatsu but he alone did not do this and had instead retained a high healing factor just as less evolved hollows can instant regen. Imagine if he distributed his evolution and ability like the others did. Him, Starrk and Barragan were the only ones who were vasto lorde before they were turned into arrancar I'm pretty sure. But as far as strength goes, I'm fairly certain he would've been able to defeat even vasto lorde, if he had just went purely for reiatsu and offense. After defeating vasto lorde, he would've been tired anyway so things could've worked out similarly, except I actually would've liked him to stay alive for the next arc and I wanted him to defeat one or two stern ritters. Remember, the only one we've seen him fight properly has been Ichigo. I wanted to see him vs others....he would've been so cool. This is one of those situations where killing off your character is actually detrimental to the story imo. But hey, it was Kubo's decision

What I really liked about Ulquiorra is that he actually filled me with a sense of dread. Like I genuinely believed he was gonna kill everyone and the this would be the end of these characters. When he popped his second release I was thinking, "It's okay. He's a lot stronger now but Ichigo is gonna at least defend him-oh God he's getting bodied so badly..." I still held hope up until he crushed Ichigo's mask. At that point my spirit was broken. I really believed that this was it. Ichigo's gonna die then he's gonna kill Uryu and then Orihime. Then he's gonna kill anyone else that shows up and we're just gonna have to hope the Soul Reapers can handle Aizen cause this half of the battle is over. The only villain to ever have struck me with that same dread was Frieza after he powered up to "50%."
I think Kubo excels at that writing, creating a story where the characters really have no chance of winning.
I remember that kept me tuned to Soul Society Arc knowing that Ichigo couldn't beat 13 captains if he was already dying to 1 lieutenant. Much less the time table he had to do it on, while also piling all those other friends getting captured on top of that _one_ friend that needed rescuing.

The Frieza comparison is actually pretty apt. I had never really made the connection myself before, but it is there. The sheer despair of a form beyond form and then when our main hero finally takes the scene, filled with determination, he goes "I will power up to 50% now".

Yammy had the most POTENTIAL of them all. However, Aizen had not seen Segunda Etapa, which clearly (as demonstrated) by the show and the books, would've awarded Ulquiorra the rank of primera espada. One single attack of Segunda Etapa Ulquiorra dwarfed the instance of Las Noches. Yammy even in his (by that time) strongest form was far from achieving such a feat. And Yammy was controlled by his feelings while Ulquiorra was calm, calculative and cold. Thought goes a long way.

Number is only given by amount of Reiatsu, not by combat strength. It's more like Mana than DPS. Those with more Mana get a higher number. Ulquiorra states there are those stronger than him he's only referring to his First Resurrection, because he is a true Sigma Male and isn't playing his entire hand. He Aizen hasn't even seen this form in order to inform the Reader, not Ichigo. Ulquiorra is perfectly fine with his position in the Espada.
When Yami Transforms he turns to 0, because Aizen has seen that form and put a 0 on it. Segunda Etapa has no number, because Aizen hasn't seen it. I doubt anyone other than Ichigo, Orihime, and Ishida have ever seen it. Ulquiorra is the only natural Vasto Lorde.
Only Ulquiorra's Segunda Etapa has reiatsu described as not feeling like reiatsu. It is described and drawn like black water flooding down, and like you are moving through water into it. This is like Aizen vs Ichigo when Aizen transforms and a pillar of liquid explodes, and Ichigo performs Final Getsuga Tenshou and explodes with black reiatsus that looks and sounds like water, and even has it visually wafting off him. Ulquiorra was the Teaser that there was something far above the paltry bullshit we were seeing from Gotei 13 and the rest of the Espada.

At this moment Ulquiorra was just flexing on Ichigo, his first release would have been enough at the moment.
That's literally what he did, he was surprised Ichigo would not give up given the one sidedness of the fight, so he decided to flex his second stage Resurrection to really sink in the fact he won't win agaisnt him.
The fact that Ulquoirra was already beating the shit out of Ichigo in his second form but he wanted to give Ichigo despair by powering up even more. And usually we see antagonists power up so much because they are struggling against the protagonist.

So all the vasto lordes, being 4 and up were stronger than avg captain lvl. Yammy was an adhujas but had tge power of a vasto lorde

After all these years of watching bleach countless times i still find it for a fact that Ulquiorra was the strongest espada, for a world of hell he truly was a demon king. This is not even biased, all facts tell he's the strongest. Ichigo was no joke in terms of reiatsu at that point in time and aizen said he left ulquiorra so ichigo can reach new heights whether he knew about his segunda etapa or not clearly puts him above the rest and if it weren't for his nihilistic self he would've strived to get stronger like grimmjow and that will be a dark day indeed.

When this happened originally i was like wtfff i thought we already did this. Don't tell me he's taking it even further.
Fighting a really hard boss and beat him and showed a second phase not realizing you were supposed to lose to win
Ulquiorra should have deposited his stats not in his healing but his offense and reiatsu. He explains that all of the other espada had deposited their development into pure power and reiatsu but he alone did not do this and had instead retained a high healing factor just as less evolved hollows can instant regen.
Imagine if he distributed his evolution and ability like the others did. Him, Starrk and Barragan were the only ones who were vasto lorde before they were turned into arrancar I'm pretty sure. But as far as strength goes, I'm fairly certain he would've been able to defeat even vasto lorde, if he had just went purely for reiatsu and offense. After defeating vasto lorde, he would've been tired anyway so things could've worked out similarly, except I actually would've liked him to stay alive for the next arc and I wanted him to defeat one or two stern ritters. Remember, the only one we've seen him fight properly has been Ichigo. I wanted to see him vs others....he would've been so cool. This is one of those situations where killing off your character is actually detrimental to the story imo. But hey, it was Kubo's decision
