- This P-51D is from the 442nd Squadron. During WWII this squadron focused mostly on ground attack roles, taking out trains, ammunition depots and tanks. The squadron was painted in a traditional grey-green scheme, with a stunning yellow anti-glare panel, and spinner.
I originally made this as a video 2 years ago, but I was very unsatisfied with the footage I had shot (or the lack thereof) and the overall quality. But about a month ago I found that I hadn't deleted the footage and I decided to once more edit this video faults and all.
Decals were purchased through IPMS Canada, and printed by "The Sweating Beaver" They were a delight to use.

Love the cancon! 30 years ago I started to build a collection of every aircraft to serve in the rcaf .all in boxes for 20 yrs
Haven't added to it in years, family work etc.
You are providing inspiration to myself and many others
Thank you
Thanks for the awesome comment! I'm trying to add more RCAF and CAF aircraft to my collection. My next build will be an RCAF Harvard. I've also got a lineup of Matchbox F-104s that I want to build into RCAF markings, I just need to get replacement seats for them all.
That is one sweet Stang there. Nice job
I was previously not a fan of Mustangs in anything other than US paint schemes. With this livery, seeing how it turned out I‘ve changed my mind! Lovely build Rebel.
Thank you very much, I'm glad that you like this scheme :)
I love it..... :) Looks like a bit of a snap fit kit but you certainly can't tell, from the finished result.. If I didn't already have a few 1/48 Mustangs I'd be seriously tempted in getting this kit... Beautiful end result, I'm glad you found the footage again and decided to share! I sure appreciate it.. :)
Thank you Rob :) Yes, it's a "pressure fit" as MENG describe it. Even though you have a few P-51's I'd strongly suggest trying out this kit. It's quite an experience to build, though I'm glad that MENG is sticking to more traditional building methods from now on.
@@rebelsatcloudnine I have put it on my list of kits to look out for, when (if) my budget allow.. :)
Top Notch build. You remain an inspiration to us all. Well done on yet another supurb demonstartion of your art
Thanks Jerry :D I'll try and reply to your e-mail this weekend, I haven't forgotten.
@@rebelsatcloudnine 14 August has come and went when when Pakistan got independence from UK so why do not you do something special and make a Hawker Tempest Mk 2 which was the first fighter of the country.
Love from Pakistan.
Absolutely awesome job. It looks fantastic.
Thank you so much Mark :) This one sits quite dominantly in my display case with the other P-51's.
It is always good to watch a master of their craft at work.
I've still got a long ways to go, but I appreciate the sentiment.
Oh pleeeeese. Your builds could be in a museum it’s that good.
I hope you are well. I like to listen to your updates.
I recorded one earlier this week, but I kept getting interrupted so I've binned it. I'll try recording another one as soon as I can :)
One word......BEAUTIFUL!
That's three words! ;)
Rob BasicModelling Doh!!
Amount of words aside I still appreciate the comment, thank you :)
Well done, I like the subtle chipping on the wing root under the cockpit.
Thank you, Brian :) I actually forgot that I did that until I looked at the footage on the turntable. It's something I'm going to try and remember to do more of in the future.
Just an update, the line drawing is done, I will color it and you should get it in a few weeks to a month. Patience is key Thank you
Great plane. Even better music. Sounds epic on my 5.5 surround sound
Dude great video, but i like to listen to you talk bout each build as you go thru it ;-)
Well, I tried doing a commentary, and it just didn't come out properly. I'm too nervous to do them and get them right, I end p rambling too much and I don't like that. I know that you keep commenting to me on this subject, but I would like you to respect the fact that they are difficult for me to do at this time. And I'm much more at ease doing these with just the music. I've yet to find a way that I can balance the 2. Not to say that I won't do a commentary in the future, but I also need to purchase a new microphone to do these, which I can't do at the moment as life and financial situation have become more complicated than I'd like it to be.
Lovely build.
That is an excellent P51 build, very well done and a great vid.
Thank you chancer :)
Looks beautiful as always. Love the detail and paint work !
awesome build sir
Very nice! Love the paint scheme. 😊
Thank you Michael, I'm very fond of this scheme as well. I'd like to do another one in the future, as the decal sheet gave me one in a similar scheme for one called the "Edmonton Special" as an Albertan I feel obligated to build that one as well :)
Besides maybe the Betty I think this is your best work yet!
I feel a bit sad about that, as pleased with this project as I am, I'd have hoped I had done better projects since these :)
I'll just have to keep trying harder then.
Nice build
Inspiring build as usual Jared, always enjoy your vids
Thank you as always Mark :)
Nice to see another video. I haven't been doing much modeling, but I did build a Trumpeter 1/72 M1126 Stryker kit. I still need to paint it and do some final assembly.
I've got a few projects in that stage as well. Since it's summer, I don't feel much like building models. But I'm kicking myself in gear to get more stuff done. I hope that you can get that Stryker done, it looks like a fun kit :)
@@rebelsatcloudnine I got my Tamiya Olive Drab in the mail the other day. I'm hoping to do some work on it over the weekend.
Excellent, best of luck on that one. I've just had a bit of a run it with my current project, the paint dried at the needle and I had a bit of an off airbrush session. What brand of paint are you using?
@@rebelsatcloudnine It's a Tamiya Spray. All of my modeling supplies are packed away. I recently moved and am staying at a friend's until I get my own place.
Good luck with that, I really like the lacquer olive drab more than the acrylic. It's more green and makes a nice variety.
Great build, you got a lot out of that kit, most folks I know turned their nose up at it. Miss hearing you talk thru builds though...
I'm a bit saddened by that, it's a really good kit and I'd love to build their new Yellow Nose version. I think the price tag is what has put most people off of this build.
Holy Canada, a new Rebels at cloud nine video!. I didn't realise he was still going!.
I've uploaded quite a few videos.
@@rebelsatcloudnine ahh, I honestly didn't realise you where still active thanks to UA-cam flooding my inbox with fluff. Really enjoyed the P-51D build, keep up the good work!.
It's very frustrating as I get comments like this often lately, UA-cam is getting worse as a system for broadcasting new videos. Mine get lost in the dust because I can't upload a video every day. I've heard that over the summer they are going to introduce a new system that will fix this, and I hope that it works. Thanks for watching, I'm glad that you enjoyed the video :) My next video will be a Lancaster and after that, I might have another P-51 completed. I never really know, I'm bouncing projects all the time.
@@matthewb391 Matthew, the answer is to make sure you subscribe to good stuff like rebels here and be brutal in ensuring you unsubscribe from any 'fluff'. They will get the message in the end.
Looks great
Very nice work, like it!
Thank you very much, I'm glad that you like it :)
Super Build like it verry mutch
Thank you J V :)
I love how you focus on Canadian aircraft sometimes. I too enjoy the history of the paint and decal schemes. Have you ever done or considered doing a Canadair F-86 Sabre with the golden hawks paint job?
Thanks William, I've got another Canadian build in mind, I've just got to get the decals for it. Actually I've got some limited edition Golden Hawks decals, but they are specifically for the Hasegawa kit. I've yet to find that kit for a good price, but maybe I'll use that new Sabre that Airfix is going to release later this year.
What squadron does this aircraft belong to ??? I recognize the Y2 . By the way ,nice to see the RCAF being represented in kit form . Thank you .
Thanks Paul, I included the Squadron info and where to purchase the decals in the video description.
Fun fact, 442 Squadron is the only RCAF unit to have flown the P-51D/Mustang IV before the end of the war. Any other RCAF units had Mustang III’s. Today, 442 Squadron is a search and rescue (SAR) squadron based out of 19 Wing Comox BC, flying the CH-149 Cormorant.
magnifique .
Well done 💯💯👍👍
Where can i get the wooden stick with the clamp on the end? You were using it to hold a small part while you were airbrushing.
Those are Mr Hobby, Mr. Almighty Clips.
Nice work. Why not the clear flat again comment?
XF-86 used to be a pretty decent flat, but it seems that they changed the formula, and getting a nice flat is really difficult to do. Most times it comes out has a semi-gloss finish, and this is very frustrating. It leaves a grey/silvery finish instead of a flat base, and has the habit of leaving a dusty finish over the model. You also need to apply a lot of the flat base to get it flat. I've switched to Army Painter "Anti Shine Matt Varnish" It's a fantastic product, as it nearly brings the color right back to it's original tone.
Why never again with the flat clear?
I love the scheme! What happened with the XF-86?

Tamiya XF86 Never again? Why?
When I use panel line accent it takes off my acrylic paint how can I stop this happening
That is strange, what acrylic paints are you using?
Stunning work, possibly your best work I've seen. Great vid, nice and clear with no messing about. Only thing, did not like the music! A little too depressing for me!
Love this format, keep it up!
Thanks for your comment. I'll admit I kind of rushed the music on this build. I mainly just wanted to get it uploaded, hindsight is 20-20.
@@rebelsatcloudnine only a minor thing, didnt stop me from enjoying the build!
Nice
The decals in the box were different then the ones you put on the model.
Yes, I mentioned the decal company and where I bought them in the video description.
O trabalho esta lindo, atento apenaa para o trem de pouso que ficou muito aberto. Deveria ficar mais reto. Mas o resto esta lindo.
Hmmm...🤔 A model maker whose fingers aren't coated with glue/paint/band-aids....hmmmm
I must not be human then
